Review Round 7, 2025 vs North Melbourne & Umpires

You got 38-15 in Hobart in 2013!

Yeah mate, kiss it.
Coming to another club’s board to celebrate a loss against a team on the way down even with dodgy as feck umpiring assistance, while sitting yet again at the ass end of the ladder summarises the typical Norf fan on BF over the past decade.

That was evident when Georgiades shanked his snap which went nowhere from 15m and SPP kicking it to the man on the mark 10m out.
That was just plain "job's done" attitude after quarter time. Their work rate and intensity dropped off as well as concentration. Poor umpiring yes but we were undisciplined and gave away too many frees.

Join in the chorus
And sing it one and all
Join in the chorus
We never touch the ball
Our club is lacking
In champions you'll agree
North Melbourne won't be premiers
Till 2053.
Hearts to hearts and hands to hands
We play in front of empty stands
We do our mate's wives in the can
Our accountant - he's a worried man
North Melbourne, North Melbourne!
Out we come, out we come, out we come to play
Gold Coast, Hobart, Canberra, which home ground is it today?
We're only in existence 'cos the AFL pay and pay
We're a bunch of filthy parasites who just won't go away

So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all
Join in the chorus, we're going to the wall
F*ck off, North Melbourne, you're garbage all agree
Time to consign this piece of shit to ancient history

Appalling umpiring, corruption.

Appalling commentating, Ricciuto, the Victorian, and even "one of ours". Second week in a row.

Youngsters improving. Team fought all the way.

Concentrate on self-control.

How about the club hierarchy calling out the umpires, Ricciuto, and commentating. If they can't, then get our guys to play nasty, within the rules.

Really ,,,,,,, off.
I'd like to know just how many of these blatantly one sided umpiring exhibitions the club is prepared to tolerate before someone finally grows a pair and marks a line in the sand and says enough. There's a difference between one eyed fan embellishment and blatant favouritism, and the last two weeks have been prime examples of the latter - and both times it has been a total momentum killer and very nearly influenced the result. Add that to countless examples I can recall over the years and it adds up to a pretty expansive rap sheet. At the very least, the AFL owes Port a please explain. It's not as if Port play an overly physical brand of football to attract such harsh adjudication.

Can we assume JHF didn't win the medal because of the criteria including 'team work' and 'fair play'?

Three of the five judges left him out altogether and included SPP and Drew who were nowhere close to JHF performance wise. The two judges that gave him votes had him best and second best which meant he still finished second overall.

That no 12 umpire is on the take, the other 2 umps weren’t half as bad but 12 was obviously the AFLs match fixer for the day
I noticed 3 times he called play on in a split second strategically against us. Once against Georgi who was actually lining up for goal & up against the fence line & well out of play. So if you call play on & the bloke with the ball is 5 metres out of bounds isn’t it a throw in? Can’t even cheat properly
Another vs DBJ who gave the ump a look which suggested he knew exactly what’s going on.
It was like ump no 12 got a call after quarter time on the direct ‘AFL to umpires bat phone’ to give poor old north a leg up to avoid another smashing & make a game of it.
Really the AFL should treat us with more respect. We know you are cheats. We know you fix results WWE style. But don’t become too emboldened by your success

By the way who is ump no 12? His name? His occupation, background? We are at least entitled to know which corrupt cheating pos is f)&&)(;g us over so we can find out which master he answers to & name & shame him publicly. It’s little wonder that pollis & those in high places are terrified of a proper anti corruption committee

Do we have a gameplan of going all out for a big lead and then playing tight footy for the rest of the game?

Obviously electric in the first quarter. Butters seemed to have his hands in everything.
Lord was up and about.
A lot of good, flowing scoring chains.
We dominated and the Kangaroos only two goals came from dodgy free kicks and 50m penalties.
We were actually lowering our eyes and hitting forwards on the lead. It was impressive stuff and then it vanished.

Second quarter. Everything was a bit tighter. They were scragging our midfielders a lot more.
We seemed to want to handpass a bit more than needed.
We decided to do a lot of stupid things. Georgiades playing on and Powell-Pepper kicking into the mark showed that we probably thought the game was finished.
They started to get a few more free kicks which gives the opposition more confidence.

Third Quarter. Bomb it to Charlie. Drove me crazy.
Just happy to nab lucky goals and play hard.
Dunno if it will work against better teams.

One of the those last quarters where a huge amount of points are kicked and we did enough.

The umpiring is just very hard to take.
Someone mentioned it but we are dumb and don't realise when the umps are hot to give free kicks, you have to chillax.

Once again, our best players getting us over the line over structure and good team play.
We really could do with another inside midfielder.

I might be on an island but I thought Jones and Ratugolea were good in defence.
Aliir was down in defence.
Rozee really helps out. He's been great back there.

Lord was very good.
Georgiades once again a few marks and kicks away from a bag. I think 2 goals from 6 shots.
Byrne-Jones was good.
Powell-Pepper I think is back to good form. Tackling and being a nuisance.
Butters and the Hornet best of ground.
When Wines got contested ball, we looked more dangerous.

Sweet was beaten well.
Burgoyne not bad. Farrell not bad.
Bergman's still down in form and must be injured with that knee.

I think the rest were kinda vanilla.
Berry did a couple of good things.
Happy to see the tackle count being very good.

Also, what's the deal with Jr Burger. I think I heard him say that Larkey needs to kick through the ball a couple of times and after that, I didn't hear from him.

I'm just going to add this in but it's been said many times. I glossed over it because it was so obvious but without a bias, whistle happy umpiring crew and a bit of a steady influence in general in the team and we will that game by a lot.

medal could of went either way i think

Only switched on in the second half and was watching at pub with sound off but it seemed as if North players were just hanging onto Port any time the ball was in dispute. Almost every contest I was saying 'that is a hold' or 'without it' but play continued.

Was almost as if the umpiring Overton window had shifted so much that the new baseline was Port players getting molested and North players getting rewarded for falling over at the slightest touch. Made it pretty tough to watch.

Why can't they just umpire every game the way they did Coll vs Essendon. Minimal freekicks, much better for the sport.
Because it doesn't serve the AFL interest. The top 8 needs to be filled with big Vic clubs and the Northern states. Anything west of Victoria doesn't serve their interests.

Argentina’s and Uruguay’s soccer leagues.

Where 30% and 50% respectively of those two countries population is concentrated in the metro area of their capital city, and the next biggest city is roughly 1/10th the size of the capital.

Extreme outliers.

Anyway #%^* North Melbourne, may they rest in VFL suburban peace or something. In no other case have I ever wished for an “end” to a club, not even the soulless Gold Coast who at least have a commercial reason to exist, but this never bloody ending life support via umpiring debacles, political pork barreling and a terminal dependency on rival clubs fans for attendance figures just has me calling time on them. In the sense of “relegation” from the AFL, rather than complete extinction.

Frustrating game. Don't focus much on umpiring but wow they influenced the game way too much. Are we undisciplined, unskilled and/or stupid to have so many influential free kicks played against or is it umpure corruption and/or incompetence. Over it, ruining my enjoyment of the game.

Too many passengers. Why do a decent proportion of our players think it's ok to bludge. Sick of seeing players spectate waiting for the easy stat while the usual suspects work their arses off. No wonder these players are gassed at season end.

Burgoyne has plenty of ability but since he scored well deserved coaches votes in consecutive games he's decided he's too good to do any work. He needs to be taught a lesson.

Did Wines do anything constructive with his posessions coz I didn't see it. Costs us a lot.

Defence looked a mess. People criticise Aliir but I feel he is under so much pressure because of the incompetence around him. He can't do everything.

Really unhappy with Sweets last few weeks. Zero aerial presence marking wise. How can a bloke that tall be so pathetic in the air. He should be an outlet target but we're better off kicking it anywhere else.

Did not like Farrells game at all. Too many mistakes given his uncontested role. Still waiting for Mead to show he's more than just ordinary.

Berry & Moraes are being carried atm. That would be ok in a team like Collingwood where most players contribute but not at PA. I luv the young guys being given early opportunities but one needs to go back to the Sanfl.

We look like we have way too many small players who lack marking ability & do not impose themselves enough. Most dont have a vertical leap to help compensate for their lack of height & dont provide enough run & carry to compensate. We lack quick 190cm types like Bergman (189cm) & I see this as a big weakness in our team atm.

On a positive note we've had 2 tough games so not surprised many players checked out but its still not acceptable. SPP set the tone with his attack on the ball & Butters Q1 was sublime. JHF attack on the ball & his freakish skills were on full display. Loved Rozees leadership late in the game when we were in danger of losing it. Starting to see him stepping up to the demands of captainancy.

Still think we can improve but inconsistent effort by a sizeable proportion of our team is killing us.

Yeah, we do still have a lot of passengers in the lower part of the 23 but a fair few of them are young and have potential. Unlike last year, we had various spuds doing mediocre things.

We have a fair few obvious guys who aren't going to make it and a couple of old blokes too. The list is around that area of time.

It will be a big offseason.

I agree with those saying Moraes and Berry are a bit of a liability at the moment. We need to be smart about how we get games into the kids. I think we have run Moraes into the ground. He needs a break. Persist with Berry for a couple more weeks, then rest him too.

Denied percentage with 7 gifted goals against. Percentage is going to be critical this year.
Yep, 5 minutes into the 2nd qtr and I said to those around me, we'll probably fight it out for the 4pts but they arent letting us get the % bonus we need to make up for rd1.

Filthy competition, as if you choose ANZAC round to highlight once again you're cheating scum.
All the pomp and ceremony of honouring those who served our country followed by a pro Vic umpiring display that was nothing but dishonourable.
