One positive - at least we got to use our sub for tactical reasons (albeit too late) - but who am I kidding, we are still going to get an injury out of this game…that we’ll find out about at Thursday’s selection!!!

Okay.

We have played at Adelaide oval 10 times, and have won three games; once against Fremantle, once against Port, once against WC a few weeks ago. We have never beaten Adelaide over there, and - as you saw - we don't play well there; we average 68.9 points there, while our opposition averages 101.6. In Adelaide this year, ours is surprisingly enough the second least Adelaide has scored at home, with only Geelong keeping them below 110. This - you would think - would point to the problem not being defensive but offensive, and so it bears out: the only team to kick worse than us against them was GWS, and that game was an abberation from both sides due to a monstrous wind wreaking havoc on the disposal of both sides.

So, for context's sake, this falls more or less smack bang in both where we've struggled this year and how we lose in Adelaide to Adelaide. At no point could we put scoreboard pressure on them, and at no point could we adequately prevent them scoring, which is how teams lose to Adelaide; you either bring them to a halt, or you lose to them.

Having said all that...

The match committee's hands were tied at selection, both by injury and list management. Over the last two seasons, we have traded out the entirety of our midfield and KPP depth in order to attempt a list redevelopment; blooding Carroll, Camporeale, White and consistently getting games into Lord, Hollands, Moo and shifting SOS behind the ball to cover for the absolute lack of KPD prospects on the list other than Lewis - who is now being used as a bandaid, KPD/KPF/resting ruck - demonstrates that we're pretty ****ing thin if injuries strike. Kemp, Cotts, Williams, SOS out after being consistent presences hurts, badly; it required a rejigging of roles, because we simply didn't have the players to replace them.

So, match committee goes with known quantities, Young and Docherty plus a young trier in Moo. Throwing younger players straight in away from home against Adelaide is hardly setting them up to succeed, and where we needed prospects to be smashing the door down they simply weren't.

We're simply too thin, and we're still a bit inbetween a full list recontextualisation and contention.

Complete rubbish tonight. No real positives. Adelaide continue to own us. Soft from the opening bounce.
Agree ... Adelaide know they own us and play well from the opening bounce, whereas Carlton fumble, turn the ball over and make silly errors. You could tell from the first 10 minutes we were not going to win. Crows were on ... we were off.
Carlton's comeback finished quickly, unfortunately. Expected result with too many B and C graders getting a game.

Woeful effort ... stopped watching half way through the 2nd .. then FF where we were miles behind.

This is the first time I've been convinced that he can't get back to what he once was. Hell of a fighter, torn down by 3 ACLs and 2 bouts of cancer. It was nearly impossible to doubt his ability to come back, but at 31, it has finally caught up.

A midseason retirement is a possibility, but more than likely he will get a farewell game at some point and get chaired off properly.

Yep I'm with you. It's sad because he's been an absolute warrior for us. But he fumbles and double grabs everything now and as a result he puts himself under the pump every time he takes possession. That's usually the first thing that happens when a player is near the end. I noticed it with Eddie Betts too. He was always a one touch player and towards the end he started fumbling the ball more. The mind is still willing but the body just doesn't follow. And that sucks but it's just how it is.

We can't keep giving games to players who aren't up to it. And we have to drop players whose form requires it.. regardless of injuries etc.. You have to have selection integrity to make players hungry and play on edge. We genuinely give way too many free passes to players week in and week out.

And on a side note, whilst I thought it was great how we walked the boundary high fiving supporters last week, it had a whiff of getting ahead of themselves because they beat one good team. Clap the supporters, give the thumbs up, get off the ground and get mentality on to the next one. It just feels like this club at times prioritises the wrong things. This may be nitpicking but it can lead to the mentality we saw turn up today.

Imagine bestie and I all hopeful after our awesome performance last week.

We turned up wanting effort and had to sit through that with Crows supporters cheering.

I am furious. Absolutely furious. 6 goals is pathetic.

**** you Carlton. I feel like I am in an abusive relationship with Stockholm Syndrome.

Adelaide papers will be mapping over the Crows. Umpiring was deplorable but we were worse.

Am going to read a book. This club is not getting any more of my energy tonight.
Sorry, it was such a crap night for you and other SA supporters it was very insipid particularly after our last three weeks it's difficult being a Carlton supporter

So in each of our losses this year we've kicked 2, 2, 4, 2 & 4 goals in the second half. An average of 2.8 .
Offence continues to be our #1 problem.

Still hard to know whether last week was a flash in the pan. Time will tell.

I'm not yet ready to write off the season but starting 3-5 makes it very difficult to make any meaningful impact at the pointy end.

Still think we can manage the following in our upcoming stretch and be back in the top 8 by the end of it:
Saints W
Swans (A) W
GWS L
Essendon W
Eagles (A) W
North W
Port Adelaide W
The stretches of who we play doesn’t really matter - when we come to play we can beat anyone - but we can (too) often beat ourselves with our lack of genuine resolve to win.

After being down for so long tour you’d think they would be willing to do anything to win. Performances like today make me question whether they are.

Look, I softened for a bit tbere...but back to being hard hearted.

Too many imposters in this team to genuinely buy in. I got my fire pit, I got my dog, I got my vino...I got my family asking me to come inside, but nuts to them too...

Really don't understand why we don't play younger players who we can build into our future, rather fill gap players.

I don't mind Young, but even when he wins a contest he takes heat off the ball and our attack is closed in on.

Doc, one of my favourite Blues ever, a great human, but would love to see him find some form for a while in reserves. Sadly AFL footy might have moved past the great man.

Some really soft efforts at the contest today, not going to name players, but 1 in particular played like Hercules against North & WC, and has disappeared the last fortnight.

Depth is a really big issues, particularly in key posts.
Young players… we have … lord .. carroll , white and if you watched today and I don’t like potting young players but Carroll the last 2 weeks copped a bath … Adelaide kept dragging him back because they knew … Voss should have switched someone else to rankine or Dawson … felt sorry for him but he needs to go back to reserves
