A Yutaka Take masterclass booked Meisho Tabaru a spot in the Cox Plate when taking out Sunday's Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) in Japan.

The legendary 56-year-old jockey took his mount ($11.40 shot) straight to the front and delivered a perfect steer, outlasting his rivals to win comfortably on the line for trainer Mamoru Ishibashi.

It was Take's fifth win in the feature race run at Hanshin Racecourse and his 84th Japan Racing Association Group 1.

The Moonee Valley Racing Club has extended a subsidised invitation to the horse's connections to contest Australia's premium weight-for-age race in October, which will be the last time the Cox Plate will be run at Moonee Valley as we know it.

Meisho Tabaru's victory also secured him a start in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar on November 1, should connections choose to head to the USA.
