Are West Coast the worst team since Fitzroy 1996?

Yeah we have been pretty spoilt, 4 flags in less than 40 years, our longest drought only 12 years. We can only imagine a 20+ year drought. But I'm also not taking for granted this pattern will continue. In 95 and 2000 I'm not sure Carlton and Essendon supporters didn't think they'd experience 30 and 25 (and counting) year droughts. But we're the biggest side in an AFL state, surely the tide has to really turn sometime.
This is the mistake Carlton and Essendon have made
Belief in being a "big club" would ensure success

Mate you’re bad but you’re not north.
I think a few people don't realize how much McGovern helped us, couple that with losing Barrass last year and our backline is wafer thin with Duggan and Cole being its backbone. We're basically paying Yeo his Superannuation right now so don't expect him to ever play again, so if you are looking at our list its embarrassingly lean on talent. Its not a big ask for some help really, think of it paying us back for the 1987 License fee that helped save the VFL.

GWS & Fitzroy get leave passes for their bad seasons. GWS was a brand new bunch of kids playing against men, no one expected them to do much. Fitzroy were folding with 3/4 of the side without contracts playing for themselves. Not a good environment to get the best out of themselves.

WC have the most money and support out of any club. There is no financial pressure yet they have cooked their list and rebuild so bad that they are in this thread. Not even their drug riddled team of 2000 era fell off the wagon as hard. It’s amazing and case studies could be done on this.
Case study in 5 years time will be definitive, not now.

Eagles won a Flag 7 years ago and are very Rich so it's hard to feel sorry for them. North are Poor and deserving of Sympathy.
Rich is fine but when there's a salary cap what's the point? It's not like soccer where we could be top 4 every year by buying all the best players in the land.

McQualter doesn't have the Cattle and when he arrived the Club was a Basket Case.
Regarding Ronny Lerner’s post: our Giants side of 2013 in its second year in the competition ended up with a 1 win 21 loss record. Our percentage was also 50.9%, significantly worse than the 61% West Coast currently has?

Banging on about 1987, one day you lot will also finally admit you won so many flags from just being a state team (before South Australia had one as the Crows even).

The Eagles traded off of arrogance and infallibility for years and now are facing this and begging for hand outs. it’s ****in pathetic.

You know nothing.
It was made up of mainly West Aussies because the Vfl wanted it that way.
They made it hard to attract West Aussies home except a couple of players in their last two years of their career.
Vfl also delayed our entry so that Vic clubs could raid some of the better players before they entered.
Michael Christian, Craig Starcevich, Nicky Winmar and several others.
We were fortunate to have some talent left after years of Vic clubs raiding W.A.
Vfl definitely made it harder on the Dockers with lesser talent left in W.A.

What advantage does being 'big' grant you, though?

Probably only in terms of being a more attractive destination for want-away talent. But the burden of expectation has really hurt Carlton and Essendon.

Stop letting WA down Freo & please make the finals next week. If they only make the 8 once in 10 years its on par pathetic. Almost like the Tigers only making it once in the 90's and then following it up with only making it once in the 2000s.

How does a club "self inflict" multiple concussion and other medical early retirements?

The club coaches the players to get concussed?

Enjoy tonight's game did you?

Now Essendon's list mess. THAT is self inflicted.
Well your side had no top 10 picks from 2014 to 2021, so that was gonna catch up to the eagles eventually.

My question is.... What players did eagles brought in with those 1st and 2nd rounders from 2015 to 2020 when your club made finals for 6 years in a row?

I know eagles gave up their 2018 1st rounder in 2017 for a couple of 2nd rounders from the suns. That meant gold coast suns hoped your team would fall in 2018. Eagles won a flag in 2018.

I know the Tim Kelly trade had the 2019 and 2020 1st rounders involved.

This thread should be renamed "Killing Bambi with an Axe", its obvious we got dismantled as a competitive outfit after 2018. Injuries aren't subjective but talent is and we got it so wrong about 6 years ago with our drafting by selecting absolute "Vanilla" and in some cases outright talentless hacks. You couple this with no game plan and players who are clearly not fit enough let alone fast enough and you end up with a game like today that looked like men vs prepubescent school girls. The AFL MUST grant us a "Mercy" pick inside the top 10 or the competition runs the risk of being brought into disrepute by having a team so clearly out of its depth.
Well interesting about the Killing Bambi with an axe thread name.

I mean it could be worse. I mean being teabagged to death by Tough Man Tony Abbott wearing those red budgie smugglers would be a worse outcome LoL

Incoherent ramblings of a Freo Fan, its going to be good times when Freo bow out of their finals campaign in the first week. That's if they even get in, Gold Coast only have to win one of their 2 games and the Dickers are gone.

I have said this many times before, for the Eagles inaugural list to be a state team it would of had to have had in it Buckanara, Beasley, Hunter, Richardson, the Krakouers, Bewick, Winmar and list goes on.
