There’s different permutations depending on the exact scoreline, but using the Saints scoring 30 example I think the crossover margin in 128 points.

As long as the Saints don't lose by 100+, and the Hawks beat Brisbane by 11 points or less, l will be happy, as it means we'll be at the G, first week of finals

Seeing the emotion from Fly and the players on the bench when the siren sounded gave me a real sense that we can still do some damage in September.

They were ecstatic before they knew we had sealed the double chance! Imagine how they reacted when they heard Port had got over the line!

Well the pressure is off now. Thinking about last nights game, we looked nervous particularly when Melbourne went 2 goals up on us.
I would imagine it was a massive relief when that siren went. I also think the celebrations would have been just as ecstatic as the final score from Adelaide came through.
I'm tipping Fly would have had a few reds watching the replay last night....

Whats happened to our protect the corridor system?

More Roan please. He uses well.

We could start Steele in the Qualifying final and have Lipinski as sub, but l think Fly may go with what he knows, and he will back Lippa, and McStay for that matter, to find their form.
Both these guys have to find something, as their performances have been poor. McStay in particular has been shocking and that easy goal he should have got from the goal square, but his kick was smothered, just summed up where he's at with his confidence and form.
A big game from Cox in the VFL may make things interesting, but l think Fly will back in McStay...

Fly was nervous when McStay was going up against Gawn at the ruck near Melbourne forward 50.... and Cameron sitting on the bench on the same screen shot as Fly.

You can tell that if Gawn gets a clean tap and Melbourne gets a clean entry that Pies might go down over 3 goals....

Most Saints have conceded was way back in Round 1 against the Crows which was 135, even then it was 65 points the difference. Since losing to us, they have only conceded one 100-plus score (Geelong).

Barring them already being on the off-season beers or literally deciding to lose by as Tarks said an "all-timer" just to spite us, I don't think it's realistically conceivable they lose by enough to give GWS fourth.

Like most here, at the final siren my thoughts were "why the **** are we so pumped to crawl over a 14th placed team?" but strange things happen and we've given ourselves the best chance we can given the circumstances (a top four spot) even if it was through some arse luck thanks to Port.

I remember back in 2002 when we went to Adelaide to take on Port, no Buckley and they gave us no chance. Then Paul Licuria went from tagging Kane Cornes to Cornes tagging him as he racked up 40 and put us in a preliminary final.

We're obviously in crap form there's no denying that, but the best part about having a bye week (which sucks for fans) is those sore bodies have an extra week to recover. Then we go again and you know what? We will have the same chance as Adelaide to make a prelim, regardless of the form before it. They'll be heavy favourites, but backs-against-the-wall Pies interstate are a different beast.

It was still unimpressive, boring football. Fly still hasn't solved the problems. This game style will not threaten any of the other top 8 sides.

Much work to do for Fly over the next fortnight to get it right.

It might require some tough decisions over seemingly "favourite" players

Its dumb football.

We take May to the contest rather than away from it. I get we rotated players on May but when it's Elliott especially, you need to be on a lead. You can't jump or wrestle him. ****ing stupid.

McStay when on McDonald should have been the go to player but he offered us SFA.

We didn't play 2 ruckman and attempt to stretch Gawn or give him something to think about.

Naicos and Jacos should be resting up forward.

And hopefully even harder believe GWS could outscore the Saints by 20 goals without Hogan in the forward line……fingers crossed!!!

How bloody good was Billy Frampton.

Hogan out too.

Missed the game but just watched the replay. Came on here expecting to see excitement but gee whiz there’s still a lot of negativity.

We just secured top 4. We have a week off to rest our fossils. This was the dream about 2-3 months ago.

DeGoey is back. That last goal could be what McStay needed. Beau and Shooter are causing chaos and Billy Clampthem is looking elite.

3 more wins from here. Don’t underestimate what winning that close game can do to the psyche of our players.
Easy to assess the game on the back of the Port win. But at the time, when we thought we needed a 60+ win against a bottom 6 team, we were horrid. To trail by 2+ goals in Q4 and need a late comeback is a huge worry.

For our psyche, we needed to win one of the games against the other top 8 teams - not Melbourne.

End of season review

11-0 against bottom nine sides ( only 2 double ups and none against the bottom 4)
5-7 against top the eight top nine sides and 4 of them double ups. We were 1-1 in all our double ups. The other four ( single) games included a win over the Dogs , a shot after the siren that could have beaten the Cats, a six point loss away to the suns where we kicked 13 behinds before kicking a goal yet still managed to hit the front in the last quarter, and the forgettable round 0 game against the giants when we were unable to cope with the cyclonic humidity.

Good result considering the draw we were handed.

Not scared of anybody.

The issue is with our mids. So many panicked kicks.
I think finals footy will suit our game plan though.

No way Cox comes in, we would be even worse with him as a forward.
Agree on Cox, looks like his passport is stamped. If we are not going to play him against Gawn twice this season we will never play him. Disappointing not to use a potential asset in a flag run especially given our lack of aerial threat.

Just watched the highlights- kicked 4 in the Last Qtr, after being down by 3 and looking down the barrel is the type of grit, that we’re known for - you don’t win that one without our defiant and steadfast resilience.
Top 4 with Adel holding no fears - hang on for the ride.

Highlights were great, once they threw caution to the wind, ignored process and played fun attacking football.

Lowlights won't be shown on the short replay. We played plenty of horrid football last night, similar to the Adelaide game after quarter time, bombing it long and almost always entering the forward line from the wings/flanks.

I can't understand why that chaos football brand we became known for has become the "break glass in emergency" button, rather than the go to strategy from the first bounce.

Very pleasing win. Melbourne despite rumours to the contrary are a good team. They just had a crap year.

Loved Sideys game. Jordy needs to be cleaner but he’s building nicely. Lippa had some better moments with his inside 50 delivery. Roan was very clean and his kick to mcstay in a 2 on 1 contest was pinpoint accurate. Pendles just brings it when needed. Mccreery was outstanding on one foot. Frampton was awesome.

Gradually our forward connections are improving. Our forward line is not the best in the world but with better delivery they are good enough.

McStay is still well ahead of Cox. He was ok yesterday with a crucial contested mark and goal, a kick off the ground he should have nailed, and some assists.

Cox’s career as a forward is well behind him. He’s now our Cameron backup.
