But anyway, it's not the end of the world regardless. He's a really handy player, but he's not the sort of talent you bend over backwards (in terms of $ and positional demands) to retain.

It'll be a shame if he goes, but it won't be the difference between being a good side and a bad side down the track.

But maybe I'm biased based off his form this year. Last year, I probably would've been a lot more concerned.

Can't wait to read DL if he leaves. There were a few that had 'guaranteed' he had already re-signed a couple of months ago and ripped into people who posted rumours about him going.

I politely said on there maybe we shouldn't assume players are telling random fans the truth and got howled down by that cheer squad nuffie. People really are insane.

Yeah, old mate was the one who originally said McVee had told them he'd re-signed

Some real journalist (some) backing their entire reputation onto their inside knowledge

He's OOC, so he doesn't have that much currency.

This draft is garbage, doubt we will get a better player than Judd in this draft with whatever pick we get given he's OOC.

Next year's draft.

You think shes starting to realize the players aren't gonna be flagging their intentions to some cheer squad nuffie who posts anything they tell her all on a public forum for internet clout?

It is mental to me. I have no issue with people being MFC nuffs but the fact that they can't understand simple stuff like this is incredibly naive.

He's probably the best decision maker in the team and the most composed player on the entire list. It'd be a sizeable loss. I agree on the positional stuff though but he may want to leave because he probably wants to play more midfield time.

And now with guys like jvr and Windsor going backwards, Tholstrup not firing a shot, Jefferson basically not up to grade, we can't really afford to let a good young kid go. But it may be out of our hands. We likely wouldn't pick up anyone as good as McVee with any of our picks in the next 1 or 2 drafts, regardless of picks so it should be the highest of priorities.

Love to keep him, but he has currency and we can replace him.

I would move him on to Freo to improve our draft position next year.
how? he's out of contract, its a trash draft, and 50% of first rounders end up being busts and we wouldn't even get what he's worth anyway so there's no good news in him leaving. If anything it'll probably just be a pick that Tim Lamb uses to bundle up to get another Tholstrup.

Next years draft.

I think a 2nd rounder for McVee is good value

Losing good young players that have potential to be elite in their position (which is how highly I rate McVee) that you've put 3-4 years development into to get a pick in 2026 just feels like bad business.

He's a really good decision maker, wins 1v1s and is a lovely kick. Our list really lacks for his type and it isn't a good look if we can't convince him to stay. Under King I'm hoping McVee and Bowey can be given license to break lines and attack from half back. Hopefully he just needs that sold to him.

Let me be clear – I'd certainly rather not lose him. I'm just wary of how contract negotiations have gone for us over the past few years.

The last thing we need is another massive overpay and an attached positional change promise to somebody we haven't actually seen play/play well in that position.

McVee is really good (and important for the reasons you listed), I just don’t think he's the calibre of player to make those sort of demands just yet.

But hey, maybe it's the price of doing business given where we're at currently.

If we cant keep a best 22 young player who has a Mrs playing at MFC, then blow the place up FFS.
If it's true he's basically holding the club to ransom for a promise of playing up the ground/midfield more then King can come in and put it to him straight that the players don't run the club.

yeah that's fair. I held high hopes for AMW before he's ACL so I feel like al to depends on his recovery. I hope Steven King rates him.

but yeah, I agree that we probably can't afford the overpay.
