I like Robey but I'm curious why you chose Sharp over Grilj? (Not a criticism, wanting to understand & learn)... cheers 👍🏾
I prefer sharp over Grlj.
A lot of it has to do with intangibles I suppose.
Watching him in the champs when SA looked to have momentum swings against them, he consistently stood up, whether it be a clearance or a goal here or there against the run of the momentum. Similar to with Centrals finals loss in the SANFL. There was 2 plays I remember, he was on the half fwd line and crashed in to the pack and ripped the ball out from 3 opposition players and set up a goal then there was another where he set one up from inside fwd 50. I know it doesn't seem like much but at that stage of the game centrals were very much in the game however couldn't score. He seems to have made significant improvements from last yr particularly with his goal kicking and looks to have picked up some some speed.
I think from an inside midfield perspective only he has the potential to be the best and the signs he showed with his improvements around the ground from last yr to this yr gets me pretty confident that he will fit in.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking grlj and understand he fits our needs better but sharp just seems like he'd thrive in a big finals game.

Thanks, I suspect when players are close in terms of draft position these are exactly the types of things our recruiting staff will consider.
Leadership in clutch moments etc I'm sure they will have a range of attributes they utilise in terms of RFC values/standards. 👍🏾

I like Grlj a lot, and would be more than happy to take him if we slide down to pick 5-8 or so. Just think Sharp is the more sure-thing, and a defensive mid is something we need. Sharp also has known chemistry with Kellaway.

Posted once before and I’ll post it again.

We are picking at 3 and 4, not 10 and 11.

We need to swing for the fences and draft the best player available. We are not in a position to draft for need.
Think you’ll find in an interview with Gieschen that the possibility of splitting a pick was raised. This has also been reported in the media.
But maybe your mail is better.

But every club with an early selection is saying they open to splitting the pick. He’s just singing from the hymn book. I know nothing firm from within the club but I’ll be very surprised if we don’t use those two picks

I think we will too, but I’m not ruling out splitting a pick, if the deal is a good one for us.
This trade period is going to see some big names moving. There’s going to be major shuffling of picks, during the trade period and probably draft night.
What we see on paper now , will be nothing like what we see at the conclusion of the draft.

I may be wrong but I thought his comment was more around being open to all possibilities rather than seeking to trade out pick 3 or 4 specifically. I guess you'd certainly consider it for the right price?

I like Robey, but it seems that we would get a couple of very good kids in Grlj and Sharp. Appears like maybe their progress has been a bit more steady rather than being labelled a "bolter". But tbh honest I haven't been watching the draftees particularly closely.
I'm sure our drafting team will be across it though. Any combination of 2 of those 3 would be good in my mind...

There’s only 2 possibilities for the head of recruiting and senior coach to bring up the possibility of splitting a pick
A. It’s a red herring, thrown out by the club to keep clubs guessing
B. We are testing the waters, and seeing if there is a club desperate to trade for pick 4.

Agree with you re “ the right price “, it’d have to be a deal where we aren’t sliding down to multiple picks outside the top 10.
Time will tell, but I won’t be totally surprised if we split. There’ll be some weird and whacky sh!t going down this trade period.

Yeah, my memory was something like - we plan to go to the draft with pick 2 & 3, but if something really good comes along we're happy to split one or both picks.

Which can mean a few different things depending on how you want to interpret it.

Just had a rewatch of Sharp and I think I have been suffering from Sharp over exposure.

He is the best footballer in this draft. He has all the tools and he plays well every time.

Sometimes we get seduced by the next potential big thing when a big thing stares us right in the face.

Will not be disappointed to land him.

I can absolutely see a world where Bummers trade 7 & 8 for 4 and a F2. Gets them one of the ‘big 4’, whereas 7 and 8 gets them more speculative picks.

That gives Robey at 3, then 2 of Grjl, Cumming, Greeves or X Taylor at 7/8.

I’m taking 2 of those over 1 x Sharp or CDT.
This is the absolute perfect scenario

Praying Blair is stirring the pot

Think you get a competitive bull ready for 250 games. Fairly safe bet.

I'd watch melbourne for a potential trade up.
Mcvee picking freo probably costs Freo pick 11, could see Melbourne trading pick 11 and future first to move up.
Surely not. I wouldn't pay more than pick 29 for Mcvee

From what I have seen both long version footage and obviously highlights he does have good skills.
Strong disagree. He has neat skills when he has 0 pressure on him. As soon as pressure is applied, he becomes more of a 'get it out by any means necessary' kind of player, regardless of where it goes.

I don't want another Short / Hopper / Taranto, so I'd be coaching that out of his game ASAP if we drafted him. The fact he's not using his strength more to free his arms and have an extra half second is a bit of a worry, considering he's just bigger than most players at U18 level. He's not going to have that luxury at AFL level.

I still think there's a bit to play out with how we go into this draft, however if we do take 2 and 3, Dyson Sharp is the 'no-brainer, don't complicate it' pick for me. I don't really see a world where he doesn't make it at the level. I'd then tie him with Robey right at this minute. These two compliment a nice quartet of goalkicking midfielders in the future with Lalor and Hotton.

I do see arguments for Taylor, however I'm not quite sure he fills a list need at this point in the draft. Grlj I'm not as hot on, especially as a top five pick.
