Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

What I'm saying is that 18 month ago we were a destination club and some how within that time we have multiple players who can't wait to get out of the place quick enough, and to have a player like Silvagni who was always considered a heart and soul player at the club be one of those player falls just as much on the club as it does on jacks shoulders.

Carlton a destination Club - really? Says who?

Name a match winner that has come to Carlton as a trade - just one.

Money is the #1 predictor of where a player ends up.
An easier job to do because of quality proven players around you is #2..

Maybe the Carlton super stars arent rated as 'super stars ' by players in other teams - for good reason.

Over the last two years Carlton has bolstered its youth
This year the CLub is focusing on bolstering the missing age gaps in starting players via trade and maintaining investment in the draft - whilst playing of the back foot trying to veor for a semi decent ruck a sometimes on the park silvagni (no big deal really) and a snotty nosed self serving ingrateful type in curnow.

The list failed in 2022/23/24 and 2025 - the rebalancing started last yea rin earnest and will continue this year.

Blame the coach if it makes us feel better - he will be lucky to be there a year from now anyway. Any better coach is going to want a clean sheet a healthy balanced list and money to spend.

Ha, maybe!

That bathhouse has about 6 or 7 owners, it wouldn’t be making much profit already, let alone enough to take enough out for Charlie to see a reward

Same goes for Barry’s (his seltzer with Daicos boys & Smith).

I’d go as far to say he’s burned cash on both of those projects thus far.
100% guaranteed.

Also Robert D'Orazio (co-owner Barry's Drink)

Yep, in light of all this about The curnows…. No Geelong.

Bit of Spine please Blues

Yep. Charlie Curnow’s preferred club of choice should be the last club we trade him to.

Stuff him.

I work with large contracts. Strong arming, firm positions like this just don't work. Sounds good on paper but there's numerous other factors you haven't considered and would likely just further hurt our club.
Unless we are getting the value equivalent of 3 first rounders, no deal. Thats the going rate in my view, there has been history of guys wanting to be traded and staying and thriving. (Papley, O'Keefe at Swans 2 good examples, Buckenara way back).

I would not be blinking at letting him go for less, the last time we went down the "lets get rid of everyone cos bad for culture" route was 2013-14 and we ended up way worse. People thought we could replace Betts, Garlett, Robinson, Laidler and Waite with just randoms, and amazingly we could not.

If you think we are bad now, just wait and see us letting go Charlie for some magic beans, and a Walsh going on top of TDK and JSOS going, leads us to WC/Richmond territory and green shoots years Bolton redux by 2027 wining 1-3 games a year.

We are back in contention for the 8 and above from next year.
Our issues were predominantly:
1. above the shoulders stuff that while I cannot explain specifically, I'm 100% convinced were there
2. An amateurish footy dept, particularly Head of Football
3. An obstinate coach who (IMHO) knows he's on thin ice and will finally change bc Wright and Davies will be breathing down his neck
4. Second rate assistants who I believe Wright is addressing

TDK leaving is not a big deal. We don't need a ruckman who is a quasi mid. We just need a good solid ruckman who works in concert with their mids

Smith, Lord, Cowan, Carroll, Moir will all benefit from 2025, Smith will be very hungry

Jack Silvagni will be replaced by Newman

Charlie will make us less predictable (and maybe Khamis, Kemp and Moir) will work well with Harry

And...let's start playing Cripps in the goal square more often. He is almost KPF height

We are back in contention for finals in 2026. Nothing guaranteed but what I firmly believe is this is no mini rebuild...just a clean up and re calibration
I like this. Nailed it.

Just a couple of additions:
Newman can't replace JSoS as KP. Leadership - definitely, but we need Young to work with Weits and find another from somewhere, if possible.
If we are going to play Hewett midfield as a main mid, then we definitely need to move Cripps more forward. I personally would play him further up - half forward - and let him run around, using his mobility and marking. Putting him in the square has shown not to work that well.
Finally, Voss needs to get versatile (for a better word) as coach and less tunnelled. Simple as that. Let's see if he is willing to evolve.

Charlie’s final demand prior to signing his current contract at the end of 2022, which he now wants to break, is that the club re-sign Ed for 2023. Club was ready to move him on as we had Cripps, Walsh, Hewett, Cerra and Kennedy in the middle plus Dow still on the list. Club agreed to do it as part of getting the deal over the line. Now said family, who the club has bent over backwards to keep happy, is upset with the club. It’s this entitled player culture which is why we have been rubbish for so long. Move him on for the right deal which won’t be the deal Geelong offers.
This post UP IN LIGHTS

That is the very reason I would keep him though. Flower him. Let the 'family' learn..... ;)

What’s his name is back with another gem

I don’t really see why this has got so many laughing, two 1sts and a 2nd imo isn’t far away. We can do slightly better but I don’t think it’s too far off

I’d like people to list how many players have been traded for more than this.

voss & russell cracked the shits with him in one of his final years because he wouldn't follow a rehab program for his injury -which he re-injured (he just wanted to do his own thing).

as a result they phased him out of the seniors, ed didn't like any of this, thought he deserved another year and didn't want to retire. parents got involved, they've been in charlies ear ever since, etc.

basically its been the curnow family v carlton ever since.
We don't need them!!!

Maybe Ed can reflect on how we turned a clanger king with suburban footy skills into a well respected figure at Carlton

If this is true, the Curnows can join the Slvagnis in the "FRO out of our space" category

Geelong asked for THREE x First Rounders for a 26yo Tim Kelly and got them.

We're not bending over for the Cats. They can stump up THREE FIRST ROUNDERS + an A GRADER before you'd consider talking to them.

I'd love to know the reason the Curnow's are seemingly so upset with the club before we start trashing the entire family...

In a complex deal, the Cats sent picks No.13, 15 and 20 and a future fourth-round selection to the Giants in exchange for Cameron, the Giants' future second-round selection and a future second-round selection tied to Essendon.

Cameron was a restricted free agent (NO CONTRACT).

Charlie is a multiple AA, multiple leading goal kicker, proven match winner and has YEARS to run on a contract (this alone would attract a first-round pick to tempt us).

Seriously?
Piss them all off.
Never saw Ed as a spooky prima donna (never had enough natural talent to justify that sort of behaviour), but there you go.

That is the minimum we should be asking for re Charlie. People seem to treat this the same as a contracted player, or giving into innuendo that the relationship with him and the club is completely broken and we have to let him go at all costs.

Look at it rationally, if you were another club and you saw us give up Charlie for 2 firsts and a future 2nd/3rd you'd be laughing your asses off at us.

Even though this is like all of Cooney’s mega trades- that is, dumb- it does strike me that given their age profiles and past achievements, Petracca and Curnow might hold similar value in a trade scenario

So ....

1. Nine months ago, big brother and little brother open up a health and wellness centre 20 minutes down the road from GMHBA Stadium.
2. Dangerflog admits during the Brownlow he and other players have been spending a lot of time down there this year. He literally called it 'a bit of a cat’s haunt at the moment'.
3. According to the website, an annual pass to the About Time Bathhouse, costs $3K pp.
4. Geelong employs 42 players + 25 player contact staff + ? other staff

The Geelong Football Club.....wouldn't......possibly.....
They'll get Charlie for $800k a year, and then pay for all of their sponsors to have annual passes every year.
Or get a coterie to do it. Even better.

The audit into Geelongs third party payments that the AFL is close to releasing will be interesting. Caro reported in July that it was all but finished and hadn't found much. However nearly three months later and going into a less AFL media orientated period Andrew Dillon has confirmed that the audit will be released shortly. Maybe theres a bit more there than was first thought.

JSOS was siding with his old man and their shenanigans to offer him his last contract on significant overs from the market salary that had been offered.
