Just take the two best available now imo , risky relying on next years draft then waiting to see where another club finishes again For the future first .
Clearly, if we do that, then we rate a future pick in the teens as superior to pick four this year.

I can’t/won’t argue with it. They are the experts.

I would really love to know, though, what measures they use to determine a weak crop, and how much of it is off field assessments.

I’m sure plenty of these kids have looked good against each other. Where does the knock come from?

My ass has been trying to avoid draft talk like the plague because last year, I nigh on drove myself certifiably insane reading this thread.

However, here I am again because all I am hearing is that West Coast are going to go for CDT and Duursma which therefore means we are a live chance to take this Sullivan Robey bolter that I no absolutely zilch about.
Is the hype real with him?
Yes yes yes oh lordy yes

I reckon he is a lot like Taranto.
Field kicking sus but goal kicking is terrific.
I won’t hate it if we get him, but I think we need better ball users.
He is elite in just about every category
So much more power than tarranto and more explosive too

To split the pick or not?

Here are two scenarios, accounting for WCE getting pick 2 for Allen this year, and assuming we finish 15-18th next year.

Scenario 1 - Do not split the pick

2025 Pick 3
- Sullivan Robey
2025 Pick 4 - Dyson Sharp / Xavier Taylor

2026 Pick 1-4 - Another gun

Scenario 2 - Split the pick (with a conservative guess at the picks we end up with)

2025 Pick 3
- Sullivan Robey (you'd hope)
2025 Pick 10-12ish - A more speculative player (especially with the many academy players this year)

2026 Pick 1-4 - Another gun
2026 Pick 10-12ish - A more speculative player

Looking at that, why would we want two guns and two maybes when we could have three guns?

Splitting makes absolutely no sense to me - not only do you end up with a more speculative pick later in the current draft, you risk the future pick blowing out past 10 and even if it's say 7-9, that's still speculative compared to pick 4 this year.

We should absolutely not be splitting the pick.

Probably depends what sort of player they project Tanner Armstrong to be. If we think hes a late 1st we may aim to get two top 10 picks in before a bid comes in. Leys also a consideration.

Aren't we gonna be shafted by academy rule changes next year anyway?

Essendon got a timely rule change in 2024, the very draft Isaac Kako was available, and also ended up with 2025 pick 5 from Melbourne out of it (a massive double-win for Essendon there, who would've thought Melbourne would fall so far this season).

Come 2026 the opposite is about to happen yeah, aren't they tightening the bidding?

yeah it'll be harder to match a bid, which might be why we may be looking look at trading into next year's draft.

Just did a round 1 mock draft
We traded our pick 4 to Carlton for picks 10 and 11
We traded young and 2026 3rd round pick to eagles for there 2026 2nd round pick
We also traded sonsie to Freo for our 3rd round pick back this year
And also traded dow to North Melbourne for there first pick in round 3 this year which comes straight after our freo pick
We ended up getting
Pick 5-- Sullivan Robey
Pick 13-- sam Cumming
Pick 14-- sam grlj
Pick 39- Luis Emmett
Pick 40- Talor Byrne
Late pick- louis kellaway
1 rookie pick in rookie draft
Was zayden Lockwood
I suggest you concentrate on your recovery, obviously you are very, very, very ill to consider trading with Carlton.

I think we all get caught up in the numbers when it is the player selected that really matters. Melbourne got Lindsay with their pick will the Bombers get a better player than that this year, extremely doubtful I would have thought. Same deal with splitting picks, absolute waste of time speculating until we see what players are selected as the numbers mean nothing for now in reality.

A younger, better kick, two time best and fairest winner in three years for us? Good get!
Not for me, Bob. With Lalor, Smiley and McAuliffe , we don't need another young bull. Pace and skill.

McAuliffe has pace and skill...
I haven't watched a great deal highlights vids or seen any live games, so who in this draft crop has pace and skill? Who has great disposal by hand and foot, pace to burn with agility to match? And is a midfielder.

General consensus is that there is no complete package in this years draft.

Grlj is electric and hard with good skills. If we trade back I hope it is for him.

A trade I'd do that probably won't be liked by many here and that's fine. Basically it's asking the Suns how badly do they want to get a player ahead of their Academy kids, as such the offer is

Richmond give: First pick 2025(2) & R2 2026

Suns give: First pick 2025(6), second pick 2025(13) & 2026 R1.

Now before the pile on let me explain the reasoning.

Suns have a number of Academy kids that are in this draft, but would no doubt like to get a pick ahead of those bids. We're perfectly placed to do that, so we offer our first pick in the draft ( currently 2) and our future 2nd round. In return the Suns send us their cuurent first and second picks (6 & 13) plus their 2026 R1, which basically equates to them moving from a late R1 pick to an early 2nd and we move from an early 2nd to late R1.

This would allow us to take 3 kids in the first round this year and have 2 R1 picks in 2026, where we would likely get a kid before Armstrong and then have a late R1 pick to use on matching.

Now I know some will argue giving up 3 means we could miss on the flavour of the month Robey, but in return we could walk away with 3 of Sharp Grjl X.Taylor Lindsay Farrow Greeves Cumming Marsh or Dovaston. I'd suggest that a combination of any 3 of them adds more to our list than taking Robey and 1 of them, and I'm happy to back in our recruitment team and their decision as they're much better placed than anyone here to make that call.

All good man. Don’t sweat it.
I have no beef with you.

the problem with this is GC would still be relying on WC not bidding on either Uwland or Patterson. If they did, which seems likely, then pick 2 (3) would be swallowed up. WC have much more leverage in these discussions that we do unfortunately.

I see sharp similar to a Rowell Mini. Less kicking ability though

Rowell is far more explosive than Sharp IMO.
