I think Hawthorn should be interested.

Should be a cheap enough get given Saints want his salary off their books to afford all the players they are after and have told him to explore options.

Obviously not a quick player but still a tackling beast and can win a clearance. Arguably very similar to Worpel but I reckon a slight upgrade and would compliment Merrett well to improve our weak spot - in the midfield.

Don't thin Merrett and Petracca was ever affordable or likely but perhaps Merrett and Steele could be?

An absolute warrior and 'A' grade citizen who was for some years the best player in a team full of spuds. But he is cooked. Body is shot from years of bash and crash and is now well down the pecking order for a midfield spot. Probably borderline best 23. If a trade can be achieved which benefits both Steele and the club then that is the best result. Otherwise I think he plays out his time at the Saints as a HBF or in the VFL. Reckon he would provide some value at West Coast or the Roos.

Ross has been pretty clear this year that Steele and Macrae can't play in the same midfield, and Steele's dropped off big time. Also not a natural leader, even though he's a great guy and the other players apparently love him. I'm sure we'd be happy to keep him but if he goes to West Coast or Essendon or somewhere it might be good for everyone.

Yeah I imagine we might ask a 2nd but surely end up settling for a 3rd, I can't see a 30 year old who finished outside the top 10 in our B&F despite playing 21 games being worth much more. Salary dump if anything.
