Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Has Charlie actually put in an official trade request?

That is my thinking with him and hoping we may have a crack at him.

Hard to tell how far gone he is though
I think it would be a throwaway pick trade that neither club will use.

Elijah has burned his bridges here

Now that the Suns have the Saints Pick 7 for Flanders (to add to their Pick 6)…..

6, 7 for Curnow??? And the Bear?

6 7 Big Chungus GIF

Sydney is keen on Charlie and wants to keep all its stars.
Has picks which could be more attractive to a third club …

Is there a player that we would be interested in that may "unlock" this trade?

I'm not doubting the rumour and the source is about as good as it gets but didn't someone say a week or so ago that Cripps said he was staying on as captain at a pre-GF lunch thing?

Patrick Cripps trying to stop Sam Walsh officially being sworn in as the new captain

I think their is, Jesse Dattoli is 19 and a small forward. From Melbourne, so probably home-sick. One of my bro in-laws has a fitness trainer

who happens to be his old man. He told me his dad was a fine fella, good indication re character.

Some draft capital + Errol Gulden is all I'd be looking at from Sydney.

Warner is a WA flight risk, doubt he wants to come.
Heeney turning 30 next year, doenst fit our profile.
Papley turning 30 next year, plus doesn't want to come.

Not much else I'd even look twice at tbh.

Not to be a Karen and a buzz kill, but I didn’t really like Walsh having a beer in almost every photo he posted or every insta story he had.

For a 'normal' player, I'd agree with you.

But Walsh is a training & aerobic beast. He seems the professional type not to let it impact his health or output.

Newman back helps a lot with rebound kicking, Cowan is improving every game and has to be unleashed for hi srun - tjhe central problem in defense has always been no 2ndKPD - a pity HOF got injured as he ahs all tehe attributes of a good mark and a good kick.

On the outside- Haynes was playing nbtter as a wingman than Acres - but Chesser/Cottrell and maybe O Hollands back to wing improve run and carry there - Walsh will play as much on a flnk as on ball.

The other issue has and continues to be lack of forward not Charlie nto Harry targets - where Evans in teh last few ga,es showed more than Motlop/Durdin havee - ever.

No introduce Smith into teh side and we have two potential all day each way riunners in Walsh and Smith ...

I'm nowher near as sad faced and down on Carlton in 2026 as most in this thread appear to be.

TDK is a sorta big loss. So a second KPD, and a decent small forward are the targets - to add to Evans / Williams Moir and later in the year Kempy - and no whining whingers to carry all year is not a bad place to be. Which is why picking up Chesser/Buku and Reid are sensoble selections and not to be scoffed at.
Cowan had a missed opportunity with injury this year and Newman will give us a bit. I still don't subscribe to Saad being finished like others do. He missed Newman a lot this year. If you only have one runner in your defence they will get targeted and that is what Saad copped all this year. I think Newman back and Cowan going better and of course our younger ones like Carroll, Wilson and Charleson, we will see a resurgence in Saad's game and our defensive output in general.

HOF is exciting. Great size, pace and reads the game well. There is actually a little bit of Stephen Silvagni in his first season about him. Skills very good, moves and jumps really really well for his height. A steal, it's a shame he broke down.

I don't like Hollands on a wing, has hardly played any good football there. He's a natural half back and I called this from day dot with him. Hollands has good defensive traits and as a backman you don't need to be quite as quick of a thinker. He's very see ball get ball but he knows the basics of how to stay wide and receive which can be taught.

Hollands is like Cottrell as a winger, they run up and down all day and don't hardly touch the ball. Wing, to be really good you need to be instinctive and a quick thinker and pick the moments when an opportunity comes for you to go and you also need to be able to setup 2 or 3 steps ahead of the play. Acres does this well and if you have ever closely watch Steel Sidebottom play wing you will know exactly what I mean because he is unreal. Hollands does not have this and nor does Cottrell and this is why they will always be 7-15 possession wingmen who cover 15km per game and have a low impact on games. Wing is like small forward, it is a position you have to have the natural born instincts for and Hollands and Cottrell down. I don't know about Chesser. Walsh and Cerra do. Haynes surprisingly read the game well on the wing.

O Hollands is a halfback and only a half back but he can pinch hit on a wing. Same as Cottrell is a half forward and only a half forward who can pinch hit on a wing.

Evans was awesome in the VFL playing high up the ground from half forward for a month and I was screaming for us to play him in the role in the AFL. We eventually brought him in but played him deep and it failed, then we brought him back and played him at half forward and he was great. Goes to show how shit/slow our coaching is. Evans actually provided something we desperately needed later in the season.

McKay and Curnow hardly playing a game fit and mentally sound killed us this year as did Moir not being quite ready and Kemp going down. A full season this year with Kemp, McKay and Curnow fit and Moir where he finished off the season and we probably make finals this year or get very close to it.

Part of defending a game is being able to gain possession and keep possession of the ball in the front half and we were poor with this. Lack of forward targets and lack of run and carry to support our forwards also was an issue. You only have to look at the grand final. Geelong stayed with Brisbane and at times were outplaying them but struggled to gain and hold possession in their front end. No wonder they are wanting Curnow. It's often the reason a team can't finish games off well because this is the best way to run out of gas, if you can't get possession and keep possession in your forward end you spend too much of the game defending which exhausts your team.

Walsh and Smith need a third mature bodied mid who can run and has agility and is genuine A grade. I don't see Smith playing a lot of footy in the middle. He's still built like a match stick and I think he will be parked at half forward or half back playing up and around the midfield in an outside role. Possibly wing and probably for at least the next two seasons. This is great for us because we also need this.

Say we happen to land Butters. I'd be training Cerra differently, slimmer, more running and sending him back to a wing. Cerra has wing instincts, he can play there, which Cottrell and Hollands don't. Cerra was trending to be elite in the role early in his career and he should be looked as as going back to a wing. Second thing I would do is play Smith at half forward in the plus 1 midfielder role or at half back in the role with stints in the middle. Cripps and Hewett playing on ball in a traditional centremans role with Walsh and Butters feeding off them. That's what a modern midfield looks like, not the crap we have been serving up. Short burst rotations through there would be Chesser, Motlop and Moir.

We can't allow oppositions sides to identify times where we have gone too slow in there and target the one quick mid, this happens too much with our onball group and our half back group.

C: Haynes Cripps Cerra
HF: Smith * Chesser
OB: O'Keeffe Walsh Butters
IC: Lord Hewett

Give me this for a starting midfield please and watch us push for top 4.

I am with you. I am not down about where we are at all. I think we have a lot of potential for a good season next year depending on how things go in the trade period.

I think our backline will be fine. I am not worried about who plays CHB next season. Young was actually ok there at the finish of last season and we know he can get us through to a point and allow Dean to develop in the AFL. 2027 is going to be terrific with Weitering, Dean and O'Farrell, that's a terrific combination.

I hope we can land a few forwards for cheap. Someone like Heyward adds a lot to our side. Can we land a gun A grade mid? If we do that it elevates us off the ground. If not our midfield will struggle next year, quicker teams will walk all over us a bit but I am hopeful that we can sort this out this year or next.

Warner becomes part of the trade if he ends up at WCE

Agree woudl be flight risk if he came to us

Reidy secured for virtually free is a good start to the trade period for us. Hopefully this is a sign of many winning trades to come.

Not having to use a mid range pic is super helpful in securing the likes of Khamis, Florent, Chesser and CJ without impacting on the Dean and Ison deals and making our first round picks more valuable than just being able to lock in Dean, Walker etc,
