Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

He's taller than Watson, Daniel and Kozzie, is the same height as Brent Daniels and Charlie Spargo, gives up almost nothing to Liam Baker and Corey Durdin.

And he has the skills to offset it. My opinion, anyway. It's not like he's an Acres type whose only weapon is his ability to run forever. Roger has pace and agility, is incredibly clean, works hard both ways, has excellent vision to go with a very tidy kick, makes decisions quickly, sticks his tackles - the height is literally the only go-slow, but I think he has enough going for him that he could carve out a solid career in multiple positions, especially now that he's had a few preseasons to build up his body for the move to senior footy.

Finally - goals in isolation are a really insufficient measurement for a player like Rogers, especially such a small sample size. I don't think he's a goalsneak, he's a connector between midfield and forward.
Your height comparison are accurate - but you have listed 7 players out of 756 on AFL lists.

On top of that Durdin (who hasn't exactly flourished at least in part because he is so small) is 8kg's heavier, and Daniels if 7 while Pickett is just a freak (and 5kg heavier).

His size makes him a massive "speculative" pick and therefore should be valued accordingly AND if he is a connector wouldn't the likes of Smith, Chesser and Ison come in to play that role for us.

lol, the butters, humphreys etc. rumours are funny.

it's just not happening this year, guys.

we could land those players basically every year from 2019-2024, because we were a big 4 club and had a list that looked like it was ready to explode into its peak. that time has come and gone, we're now one of the middling clubs making up the numbers this off-season, trying to shore up our depth, role players & culture - whilst other teams feed off us.

we will get back to being an attractive club that will land us a butters every few years, but it's not this year.
Butters may well be Dylan Sheil in a few years.

Be careful what you wish for ;).

Can you please clarify which bridge/s have been torched?

Allegedly, the President and Coach.

A player is not asked to explore options because they are in good standing

Durdin is 3 years older, is 6 years older, Pickett is 4 years older - so yes, they've built up more muscle mass than the 20yo Rogers. Rogers was also touted as far more skillful than either of the first two. For what it's worth, in Pickett's first season he played 14 (full) games for 7 goals...

Rogers' size didn't prevent him from attracting a bid in the mid teens two years ago, and I probably need to stress here that I'm in no way suggesting we pay a first rounder for him - but a mutually beneficial trade of 21 for Rogers and 35 values him around Pick 32-33, which is a "speculative" cost with massive potential upside, for a player who fits our needs perfectly. If he was 185cm and racking up 30+ touches or kicking 50+ goals a) GC wouldn't let him go, and b) he'd cost multiple first rounders.

He's contracted for one more year but his manager is contacting clubs about a possible move - either they're fishing for an extension and a commitment to more game time (very possible), or he's gettable, and if he's gettable we should be in that conversation for the equivalent of a mid/late second round pick.

Smith is a mid, Chesser is a mid who could play HBF or wing, Ison is a tall utility - they're all different and complementary players to Rogers.

This one:

Certainly not definitive.

"Probably have it for another year or two", but Walsh would be next. Maybe the discussions have been had and they've decided Walsh is as ready as he needs to be.

Question for me would be whether Cripps steps right back out of the Leadership Group, or if they just shuffle the roles.
As recently as an event I attended on Thursday night Cripps said he believes he has 1-2 years left as captain before wanting to hand it over because Walsh and Weitering are great leaders who deserve more opportunity.
He said he thinks there might be a player vote on the leadership for 2026, which hasn’t happened for a couple of years, but this would likely result in some change in the leadership group more broadly, rather than expecting a change in captain.

Sounds like a mutiny - one VC out (Curnow), the other (Weitering) has put his vote behind Walsh…

Could well be that a vote has been taken and it didn't go the way he was expecting, or maybe Cripps is just playing coy and spruiking the status quo until any potential change actually takes place. Imagine the media froth if it got out that he was on the event circuit telling randoms that he might not be captain next year.

Well said without knowing anything..

“EH has burnt his bridges”
“Charlie is desperate to leave”

Actual reasons required/how/why?

Sorry.

It's all sunshine and rainbows. The players are best friends and the coach leads daily kumbayas.

The situation around both players is fairly clear.

Would be too early for a player vote (would occur after list has been finalised) - so if the rumour is true, this might suggest that coach/MC etc level decision to remove Cripps from captaincy

Even if we take out his sub games he has 6 goals in 11 games - but the big issue to me is that he isn't just small - he is tiny - it is incredibly hard to make it at AFL level at that size.

If we get everything else we are trying to achieve done and we have a pick around 40 surplus to requirements I would have a crack but otherwise I would back in Motlop, Evans, Williams & White
Not sure about the size thing there are some really good smalls around. Nevertheless I think he betters Evans, White, Fogarty, Durdin. Wouldn't be the worst get. Bit of pace and dash

I think we can all understand why the club is disappointed in EH without going into it.

The ONE question I think we're all entitled to know is WHY is Curnow so 'off' the club? It's the one piece that seemingly no journo wants to learn. He's adored by his teammates & the fan base. He was put into the leadership group and was/is a respected, loved & valued member of the team. Why the sudden 180 degree change in behaviour & attitude??

Voss and the footy dept had one job - keep this guy healthy & happy and we'll get 70 goals a year from him for the next five years, merch & memberships will be as strong as ever - from the outside looking in - they've f****d it up royally.

I want to know why there is a blowup between the club & Charlie and how its happened.

(have been told by one close associate of Charlie that Voss is a poor relationship coach and never speaks to Charlie. IF that happens to be true it's a disgrace we've got the point where Charlie is now 'desperate' to get out.)

Come on guys
Do you really think we’re in a spot to land a ‘big fish’ ?
I’d rather fill the needs of the team this off season, actually follow through with the ‘no bs’ culture throughout the pre season and into next year and beyond, and then go for the big free agents along with Cody next year.
This.

Either keep Charlie and get him firing again which is a win. Or if we turn him into a couple of handy best 22 players and load up some picks for Walker, that will work too.

Get captain Walsh back to his best. Get Jagga up and firing. Bring in Walker.

Our other youth like Ollie, Cowan, Skull, Moir etc develop a couple more years.

We assess our needs then and go for the big fish again.

This won't be a full blow rebuild, but a bit of a list refresh.
