Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

West Coast won 1 game and Starcevic and Robertson want to go there...

Can't see Voss staying post 2026, new coach, new direction, I doubt players will want to leave. Walsh could but that might happen regardless of 13th or 18th finish....

Much rather end up with pick 1 then remain in no man's land with a pack of pretenders, then end up bottoming out while Tassie have all the power at the draft for the next few years...

Anyway, like I said, we can revisit this end of next season..
Robertson could only manage 4 games this year will probably find it just as hard to get a game at Brisbane next year. No surprise his gone back to his home state.
Starcevic has been offered 5-6 years also to return home. Be silly not to take that especially if he could be one concussion away from being medically retired

I know why they left Brisbane...

Point still stands... it's a major overreaction thinking that we'll have a mass exodus if we finish last next year.

3rd -> 8th -> 11th says otherwise...

Different isn't always better either.

What we need now is patience. No matter which way you look at it, you don't lose TDK, JSOS and Charlie Curnow and get better unless you replace them with equal or greater players.

Draft picks are not that in their first few seasons.

I know what some are saying:

- TDK played shit anyway! Yeah well, as true as that is, relying on Pitto as main ruck hurts our midfield even more and Reidy is a 25yr old unknown at AFL level...

- JSOS was injured half the season. Again, true, but with the loss of HOF, losing Jack as well really kills our KPD depth. There's also the apparent shopping around of Gov (not that he's much chop anyway)... but we will be severely lacking in KPD options next year... if Weiters goes down expect to finish bottom 2.

- Charlie played shit! Again, another fact but a shit Charlie Curnow is still something that causes opposition to plan for and at the very least, he takes the opponent's best key defender every week. This burden will now be placed on Harry and he hasn't even played 1 full season since we drafted him...

- Then there's the fact that our midfield is one-paced and one dimensional among a host of other issues with it...

- Then there's the lack of small and medium forward talent.

Add to that the core group that are 30+ that we still have an unhealthy reliance on and it's very hard to see where the improvement will come from next year.

I know it's tough to hear, but we are years away from having a side that can win a flag.

I agree I don’t think we’re going to be much chop next year. A few key injuries and we could very well slide into the bottom 4. Bottom 3 with west coast Essendon is not out of the question. If we have a good run with injuries (which doesn’t happen to us so not holding my breath) we could make sneak into the 8. But with the changes forecast I see us finishing 10th - 14th all things considered.

However I don’t think it’s going to take long to bounce back. A midfield in 2029/2030 of Walsh, Cerra, Jagga, Walker and whoever else we can prize out will be all 30 or under and pretty formidable … backline of HOF Dean and weiters if he can hold on is pretty good as well. The forward half is where there needs to be investment in the next 3-4 seasons in free agency or trade with another gun key and X factor small forward but we might get Hayward out of the Charlie deal this year.

I don’t think all is lost in the medium term

I get that, but if I'm Sam Walsh, I'm getting big offers from multiple clubs...

Then I see Carlton giving someone else a massive offer...

And coming to me with a lot less (because we need to take less for success)

But you want me to be the captain...

I'm thinking, well **** you... I've given my all since I got here, and other clubs clearly value me more...

It's def a risk when it comes to getting Butters... are we willing to accept that?

Yeah, would be the Nasiah situation all over again. Quality player, out of contract, suitors offering big money. Current club offers X, but then goes fishing for a free agent offering X+$500k. We'd either have to break the bank and pay Walshy something comparable, or potentially see him walk.

Could be way off the mark here but I’m not sure the Walsh offers will be that huge from others. Unless they are idiots like saints.

His body hasn’t been great last few years and he’s not as damaging as plenty of other mids.

Like objectively, Butters should command a lot more from the open market.

Today: “We are bringing in Zak Butters and he will be added to a gun midfield of Walsh, Jagga and Walker in 12 months.”

Next week: “Zak Butters has gone to Hawthorn. Sam Walsh is not re-signing and has said he’s going to Tasmania. And the AFL has just announced it will take three 1st round picks to match a 1st round FS bid.”

Ah yes… the SOS list management strategy. Watch all his emerging talent leave the club within the next couple of years!

Even if they aren't, point still stands, we offer Butters way more and it might tick him off

If that happened and we didn’t lose player, Austin will be bronzed in the IKON car park…

Nick Austin in a week walking into Princes Park.

If Walsh leaves it will because he reckons his fellow players are rubbish. If I am a younger player and looking at some of the behaviours and performances of so called stars who are leaving- I am thinking "good riddance".

Players are moving for money and whatever they say to justify/explain/account for their move that avoids talking money is a load of absolute crapola.

You have to understand that blokes like curnow who are twice the player that TDK is on 1/3rd of what TDK is now earning are very very pizzed orf.

Curnow wants to move to get paid more money
TDK moved for more money.
Silvagni moved for more money.

The only way to manage this reality is to be absolutely ruthless with players and that is perform or FOFF. You need to pour resources into fast tracking developing players so that they can contribute whilst still not commanding enough BS money and they leave - or have accumulated enough older talent and depth that you are play the we play finals every year card.

The list that Silvagni built missed the midfield repeatedly for 3 years in a row - that is why the Club has lacked the depth to really contend- that and extremely poor mental leadership. There is no way a decent team concedes a 40 point start in a final and loses - the flag was there for the taking in 2023 and Russell was 100% correct when he stated recently - Carlton senior players were as a a collective - mentally weak. Walsh and cripps playing with a mattress on his ribs - were the only 2 who stood up.

Voss may be unpopular with some players- because he calls it out. No coach wants to come into a team with an inherited imperfect list and cop the crapola Voss has copped - he has actually outperform given the list he has had to work with.

This is why he hasnt been sacked. If Carlton make finals next year- he is going nowhere.

As for tanking - that is the worst thing you can put your players through - what a disgraceful way to build 'culture'.

Craig Cameron mentioned that they are comfortable for Ben Ainsworth to explore his options. Also, said Carlton have reached out through Robbie D'Orazio and he expects there may be talks in the coming days

Aren’t they trying to get two players who are in contract? 🤔
Think it’s best for all of us to just accept there’s a level of hypocrisy with the public statements made about contracted players, particularly during the first week of trade period. The comments mean nothing

I start to pay attention to the narrative from next Monday onwards.
