He probably never made much sense as a target for the Saints once they signed Silvagni. That said, for the St Kilda supporters who were loudly claiming the Bulldogs weren’t a “serious football side” unless they made it public what they were offering for Wilkie (and making an offer St Kilda couldn't refuse, despite Wilkie not actually requesting a trade), it’s not a great look that their own club spent months pursuing Aleer, only to walk away with just a week left in the trade period.

It feels like posturing - either GWS were asking too much, or the Saints are still hoping to nab him in the pre-season draft. Either way, it doesn’t reflect particularly well. But oh well.
