Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Not even close, Holmes and 2 firsts

I think that’s wildly optimistic. But fair enough, we all value things differently.

If we get that offer we take it faster than Charlie stops chasing when the ball leaves his immediate vicinity.

And Weller was pick 2...

It doesn't work that way...

Unfortunately, Charlie doesn't want to go to WCE... we are dealing with teams that he would be willing to go to. They can't offer us what they don't have.

Let Charlie sook it up means even worse offers next year. Are we prepared for that?
Just don’t trade him them. Stuff the value. What we would receive from this deal isn’t moving any needle. You don’t accept a shit deal because that’s all they are offering.

The fact is they are trying to trade for arguably our best player and one of our few game changes that has four years remaining. They have assets, they just aren’t offering them up.

Yeah well, to what? How can clubs prepare if they have nfi what the changes are?

I imagine the clubs have been fully briefed and told to keep it quiet for now so it can be "revealed" once the trade period has had it's moment in the sun. They need something besides "trade period report cards" to fill the gap between here and the Draft.

So much hate and anger in here towards Charlie. Get a grip.

Hate is unwarranted. A bit of anger is pretty understandable. The Blues have carried him through lengthy injuries. Committed to him long term. Club loves him. The kids love him. For him to half-ass it like he did this year then go “actually, I think I’d like to be on a winning team” is pretty lousy from him.

Not unrecoverable, either, if he stays. But us fans are gonna want to see a humble, energised, dedicated player if he’s in Navy Blue. And he can expect epic “boos” if he’s in another jumper.

Players don't become free agents until they've been at a club for 8 years unless they're delisted.

I think it's ridiculous to be honest. If you're out of contract you should automatically become a free agent, and all free agent compo should be shitcanned permanently.

Along with contracted players seeking a trade and breaking a contract, said player should lose the ability to nominate their new destination.

That's how simple it should be. We don't need the convoluted makey-uppy system we currently have in place

Don't accept garbage offers because the offers may get worse. He can play VFL for us the next 4 years if he wants to sook it up.

He sooked it up all year. Mailed it in. Effort was abysmal. It’s him Voss is speaking about (among others) when he said (accurately) we are not a resilient club.

Speculative picks in the late teens if its theirs over three years..

Nah sorry you’ll need to sell the ‘Farm” thanks handbaggers
I’d say we want a top 5 pk this year
A top 10 pk next year
And a top 15 pk the following year

and they can throw in O’Sullivan

I’m still of the belief and nothing has really changed this which is that Charlie and the club are working in lock step on this situation. If the deal is not heavily in our favour he will stay and he is happy to stay if so. All this PR is being heavily stage managed by all sides to make it look like we aren’t shopping him for a stupid price. When in actual fact we’re shopping him for a stupid price.

The house is worth $1 million, we’ve given it to an agent off market and if wr can $1.2 - $1.3 mill we’ll sell it. If not we’re happy to keep living in it. That’s what’s happening here.

I absolutely dont believe Charlie will be happy to stay. Im far from convinced that Carlton would be happy with that outcome either. Then it all plays out again next year after 12 months of is he staying or going from the media.

This isn't the bidding war people think it will be , cats are playing this very smart.

Charlie wants geelong and only geelong.

We can agree to a better swans deal but charlie won't agree to go there, I would be shocked if he does.

Cats have made their best offer, every one from here gets a bit worse.

Forces us to accept or reject.

If we reject cats come calling again next year., and probably pick up marshall this year.

I point everyone again to other professional sports that have solved this. NHL is the one I know best.

Restricted FA means anyone can sign your player, but club has right to match. And if they don’t match, the club receiving the player has to pay the compo in picks (ie. it’s a “forced” trade).

Unrestricted FA means anyone can sign your player because he’s not yours any more, he’s anyone’s. No compo, deal with it.

This just makes sense to me. It enables player movement, but addresses the rich-get-richer issue somewhat. Would St Kilda offer TDK squillions if they had to give up this years and next years first to Carlton?

The AFL “footing the bill” for compensating clubs is the biggest problem, because the buying club doesn’t lose anything in draft capital.

This isn’t true at all.

I see a young man who wants a change ... I moved interstate for a lifestyle change at his age as well - the best years for new adventures and the best years of my life. As I age, it becomes more and more alarming how young footballers actually are.

I don't really care what his reason/s is/are - whether it's for family, surf, to escape the bubble or to escape Carlton - happy for him to make the right choice for himself. We will be fairly compensated... and I don't know how anyone can begrudge a player if they just want to leave the Club - we've seen enough horrific videos of fan abuse that I couldn't blame any of them for wanting out tbh.

I can see your point of view, but I feel that for most, if it were their family member in this position, they'd be happy for that person to do whatever felt like the right move for them.
