Seems to be a waste of his prodigious athletic talents to not give him a crack in the guts, especially while Harley/Hewett still builds up their tanks. Could rotate the three of them off a HFF/midfield.

Most of the frustration just comes from overpaying/getting unders in positions of leverage in almost every trade we’ve pulled off in this off season and last.

This was sort of our last shot for another year at finally being the team to pay unders for once and now it’s another 12 months of melting about Matt Clarke.

So many West Coast fans only watch 1 club and have no idea about other players.

They are saying pick 22 for Starcevich is over paying - the guy is one of the best lockdown defenders in the game.

Saying 38 is an overpay for Young who is has been excellent in his role either side of injury and is a massive need for our list, we won't even use the picks anyway as they'll be used on academy/FS picks.

Shanahan was drafted by duane massey the recruiting manager. He came on last year and done a great job so far. The same cant be said for matt clarke who continually trades players for overs and sells for unders. The liam baker trade was complete shitshow and he should pf been fired on the spot

To split pick 3 then trade 14 for baker was completeltly idiotic. The guy is good at getting the ball but turns it over constantly. Needs to be put into the foward line next year where his turnovers arent as costly

Disagree, one of the best disruptors and clean by hands small defenders in the game IMO. Not to mention stupidly brave and tough.

Always hard to look good off HB playing for a struggling team.

Gotta love how we have turned a rookie pick into 38 and the pick we gave to North is currently only 13 picks earlier. On draft night North's pick 25 is like to push out a bit further and there's a chance that 38 actually comes in a little. Crazy.

WC could have gotten best 22 players for 5th and 6th rounders too though. The hardest part is getting them to want to go there.

And so many blindly defend everything the club does as though being pushovers at trade week every year and winning 11 games in 4 years and having a list that isn't very good couldn't possibly be related in any way shape or form.

None of the trades we've done in the last 5, 6, 7 years - in isolation - are going to set the club back years as hack journos put out for clicks, but the cumulative effect is there for all to see. That admin are feeble and timid and have no concept of leverage, bargaining, negotiation etc. It's harming the club's chances of getting out of the hole we're in.

WC had 34, 38, 41, 53. Does anyone seriously believe if roles were reversed we wouldn't have just accepted pick 53?

On average Pick 38 plays 50 odd games according to draft guru. https://www.draftguru.com.au/picks
Some picks, such as 40, ave 93 games, are artificially inflated due to the old FS picks. ( 40 has Ablett Jnr, Josh Kennedy and Jobe Watson for example. So not a lot to give up based on that.

Will Ashcroft did his ACL in his first season. Also with McQualter having formally coached Young he knows him.

And West Coast being so bad for 5 years I think the trade is worth the risk for sure.
