Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

It only reinforces that it was an excellent call, no matter it was a bit clunky. No other club is interested. Says it all.

There was a report somewhere that GWS had a offered Leek "a revised deal". I wonder whether it was revised upwards or downwards?

I honestly think it could've blown up our rebuild. Short term pain to let the kids stay together.

Kicking out contracted players from your club like Florent or delisting contracted players like Hollands, or Geelong courting a player but refusing to pay a reasonable comparable price - how does this stuff not get any criticism WHATSOEVER!

From memory they felt for him so much they immediately dropped it by 100k a year to 300k

Cons: Leek Aleer may have cried, but we're not quite sure as he's living it up in Barcelona

exaclty, people can talk about optics all they want...i couldnt care how it loks, this is a business to win premierships, if we think a player wont get us there, then walk away

It’s funny listening to all this crap from Damo about us just accepting basically whatever we can get for Marshall (who’s contracted and a required player).

I remember vividly when we were going after Brad Hill because his young family wanted to come back to Melbourne, the line from Damo at the time was that he was contracted. And that if we wanted to go after him we had to effectively pay overs just to get the deal done. And if we hadn’t it was a terrible look for us.

Don’t see why he’s not saying the same about Geelong, especially after all the carry on about us wining and dining Aleer only to pull out.

I think we can officially shut down the rumour he is being traded to Gold Coast in two days time.

If you're right who do you think will be better off in 2026? The Cats with Marshall or us with a pick in the 20s in an ordinary draft and maybe a future second that could end up anywhere. Even if we sent both picks elsewhere would it get us someone as good or better than Marshall who might still have 5 years left in him.
You might well be right but I hope you're not.

Let's look at the Marshall thing in context...both he and TDK want to be number 1 Ruckman, both play their best footy as a sole ruck.
Ro isn't a natural forward, most of his goals come from him drifting forward as a ruckman.
Ryder had a very good season in 2020 but Ro stagnated somewhat, then flourished after Paddy retired.
I still believe Ro will get to Geelong IF the cats are serious about their offer!

I still think Roma gets to Geelong but I would LOVE to be wrong. Even if we get "overs" for him I don't see it being that good.

This is my concern too.

"Overs" is already being described as being geelongs F1.

If we don't have a use for that lined up (to land another best 22 player)- that's not overs at all.

I've never heard him say that. In fact i've heard him say the opposite in all his interviews.

Contrast that to Curnow, Oliver & Petracca who are clearly all very desperate to get out. Shopping themselves to multiple different clubs and willing to take pay cuts to get out.

Tom Morris said on Trade radio earlier that GWS would take Leek back on a 3yr deal @ $200-$250K per year!!

I don’t believe the reports of $700K per year was what we were offering. I always believed it was $600K…. It says a bit about why his manager went ham on losing out that much
