Need for a dynamic mid and star small forward are greater, and in that sense there's 4 or 5 dynamic mids in that list of 10 names (albeit 2 are academy linked). I would also rate our need for a key forward greater than key defender, especially given the DFA market, and there's arguably one (Mitch Marsh, but could also be seen as a tall mid or key defender).

Our list is in a state where we could happily take anyone, but we'd need to trade someone out next year in the case of Sharp, Annable, and CDT.
So realistically of the players draftable by us there are only 4 or 5 players before Dean would be best available.

No, as I clearly stated, we can pretty much draft anyone bar CDT without declaring the list imbalanced, and that is working under the assumption he can't produce as a key forward at senior level, which he's already shown he can do decently in the VFL.

The list would still be in better shape than it was anytime in the last 6 years.

Herald Sun reporting West Coast is strongly considering placing a bid on Dean at pick 2
do you reckon they are just pressuring us to trade our current picks for points?

a bit like what happened with essendon and kako last year

Anyway, good way to draft a disgruntled player that will want to leave in a couple of years

If only 1st rounders were still on two-year contracts...

...We could have waited until Dean was out of contract and offered WCE our draft picks in the compromised 2027 Tassie draft! :p

I think it’s crazy from them to bid on him but I think if Richmond were to bid on him that’s about his ranking in this draft

I’m not an expert but it’s clear that he’s rated by recruiters. Been reported most people think there’s a clear top 6 including him.

its either a media beat up or a poly to get us to trade away our picks - he isnt number 2

I wouldn't be matching at 2.

Also be very surprised if he attracts a bid ahead of the other "spoken for" candidates in the top 10.

Still, I've said a few times here, that the new rules may change the way clubs behave when it comes to bidding on f/s and academy players. So expect the unexpected I guess. I'd still be making clear to WC that we won't match a bid that high, and it's likely he'll want to come home in 2 years (with a much lower price than pick 2).

Clubs can do what clubs want to do, but a very high pick on a player who says he wants to play elsewhere? Not saying Dean won't give his all, but certainly a club playing games at pick 2 (when that club could get another quality player without a 'go home' factor) would make better sense...

Only people saying Dean isn't going to get an early bid have been Carlton fans on here.

Been saying for months he'll go top 10. After his champs performances it was clear he was one of the top handful of players this year in terms of impact on games.

Pick 2 would be painfully early for a F/S bid but we'll likely match it regardless.

Eats up both of our early picks with a pick in the late 30s back. Enough left to get Ison, but that'd be it. Big call.

Is it fair to rank him being the two suns boys and CDT + Durss? I think he’s probably 5-6th but I wouldn’t know more than anyone else 😂

Its a very risky strategy because matching bids is now more challenging for clubs - so if you are bidding you need to be sure that you will be happy to take the player

Pick 2 on Dean would be hard sell for WCE to their fans, cause the immediate thought would be after three years he will be going home

I wonder if Westcoast or Richmond think by bidding early it'll make it harder for us to match Cody in 26.

An early bid would stop us trading assets out of this draft into 2026. Maybe even force us into deficit if we match Ison earlier then expected too.

Depending what changes they make to F/S, it could make Cody a live option for whoever finishes bottom.

We have two 2027 picks. We won't be missing out on Cody regardless of what happens with Dean.

My rankings are as such, keeping in mind they're vastly different to how I expect the draft will actually play out/be ranked by experts. Not as big a fan of CDT as others that's for sure.

1- Willem Duursma
2 - Sullivan Robey
3 - Zeke Uwland
4 - Sam Cumming
5 - Dan Annable
6 - Harry Dean
7 - Aiden Schubert
8 - Cooper Duff-Tytler
9 - Dylan Patterson
10 - Josh Lindsay
11 - Sam Grlj
12 - Noah Hibbins Hargreaves
13 - Xavier Taylor
14 - Dyson Sharp
15 - Jack Ison
16 - Jacob Farrow
17 - Louis Emmett
18 - Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier
19 - Mitch Marsh
20 - Lachie Dovaston

Yep, planting seeds of doubt for now & the future. Believe both could also trade out a high pick.

Obv not part of the pact clan to protect others. Hope they get burnt on the other end.

smart by West Coast. They could easily get one of our firsts from us. No bidding at 2 and instead bidding on Uwland will save us atleast ~500pts and that’s assuming Richmond bid with their first pick.

If it comes to that I would be gunning for West Coast’s future second and their later picks this season for 9 or 11.
Do similar with our other first rounder too
