Yes. He played a half in there last round of CTL and was very good. But it’s a big development curve.

Because Essendon fans want Robey so on all draft threads they act/post as if XT is a foregone conclusion and our other pick is likely Grlj. Same way WCE posters flood the draft threads with pick 2 between Sharp and CDT.

2 CDT
3 Robey
4 X Taylor
5 Sharp
6 Cummings
7 Grlj

Looks likely it will be
WCE - Duursma and CDT
Richmond - Robey and X Taylor
Essendon - Sharp and Cummings

This close to the draft, and it still could be any of CDT, Robey, XT, Sharp, Cumming or Grjl that we end up with without it being that big of a shock.

That stretch of the draft between picks 2 and 8 (not including bids) is super even.

Sure he has potential to go mid later maybe but there are elite mids available at our pick so I don’t see how Xavier Taylor is an obvious pick for us???

Reckon that's why we have cooled on Grlj. We know we will be taking Taylor so want a pure solid mid.
Taylor is locked in IMO

I reckon West Coast will 100% take Duursma and CDT. Then we will 100% take Robey.

From there it gets murkier.

You can make arguements for and against Sharp, Taylor, Cumming and Grlj. Or a trade swap.

Personally I don't understand the need for Taylor and I'd be a bit stunned as I wouldn't have thought he is rated more highly than Sharp and Cumming, so yeah. For mine Taylor is less need, less upside.

Sharp might be seen as too 1 dimensional and lacking speed.

Grlj as too outside but he does fill a need.

Cumming might be the guy. But maybe not.

If we rate them evenly, we could trade pick 4 to Melbourne for pick 7 and 37 (which will be around pick 30) so they can jump on Sharp, and we would end up with the last man standing out of Cumming, Taylor and Grlj. Which would be Grlj.

So it would be Robey and Grlj plus picks 37 and 38 (in reality pick 30 and 31).

Then we can start to consider 2 of Le Ray, Rodriguez, The Greek Freak etc.

But the midfield is waaaayyy the more immediate need. It has less depth and is a much weaker line.

The backline is settled and our strongest line by far. Without Broad and Vlastuin we have Miller Balta Gibcus plus Trainor Banks and Brown all young. Gibcus Brown and Trainor already play Taylors game.

The midfield we need rotational depth.

At the same time we have stuff all established midfield depth with Prestia to retire in 1 year, Hopper turning 29 in Feb and Taranto 28yo in Jan.

Without those three we are relying on guys with 1 year experience plus C Graders like Ross.

We simply have to bring in the depth in the mids IMHO.
