So, what time is the draft actually starting tonight? I know it's 4pm western, but when is the first pick likely to actually be placed? 430, 5? Unfortunately got some home opens to go to so time is tight.

Probably already covered but Harley handing over the Duursma jumper is pretty fun.

With these sort of pre-arrangements, I know it doesn't happen, but it would be funny as f*** if we bid pick 2 on Harry Dean and Carlton choose not to match.

But they will - so why don't we just bid anyway? It means our later draft picks also improve if Carlton are forced to manoeuvre and throw in more picks earlier than they want to.

To those disappointed by us seemingly disappointed we're not picking up Sharp tonight:

You lot need to pull yourselves up by your jockstraps(I think that's how the saying goes?...) and get on board with the high talent we're bringing in.

You'll get over it come preseason.

Carlton aren’t just going to cop it though, especially not with a F2 on the cards now in these deals, knowing they’ll need ammo next year.

If West Coast don’t bid and let’s say Richmond do, Carlton lose picks 9/11 (never forget) anyway and walk away with no F2. Now that that deal is explicitly on the table, why would they do that?
100% agree with first line, Carlton are not going to.

So scenario 1 is redundant...

Carlton only need to pull trigger on trades when bid comes, so eagles lock in 13 as earliest possible number for that pick if they bid then.

If they don't bid and Richmond don't bid (shown no interest in Dean), highly likely Carlton get a pick back between 14-22 for matching Dean. Now at 22, they may prefer nexts years second rounder.. you are right. However at 14 they would 100% stay in this years draft...

Suddenly West Coast have pick 11, instead of 13?

Obviously, Carlton may still make the trades.. however with bidding, best case scenario is 13. Without bidding, two strong potential scenarios are this comes in to 11 or 12? At worst, stays 13... where it would have with bidding?

It's just FOMO - WCE fans are shocking for it.

Could be a by product of players rarely leaving in the past, or just a mentality of not wanting to miss out and be 'exposed' as foolish but I think the prospect of Freo nabbing Wes Walley in the 70s and the prospect of him kicking goals in a Derby would tip a few of these guys right over the edge.

Look at the panic about Campbell Chesser leaving...
If Chesser is a dud with Carlton you will be right. Time will tell. Personally I liked Chesser and thought we got nothing for him.

Would you be happy if we took Cummings at 2? Any chance it could happen?

I'd say that is not going to happen. If we use 2 it's for CDT.

We get very very tight on list spots if make trade pick 2 by itself for 2 picks. Would be left unable to match bids if bids came later for more than one of our NGA/Father Sons. The fact this board could see it coming a mile away and yet the club didn't resolve it when there was an easy solution with Cripps going to the rookie list is negligence.

Not saying we wouldn't do it because top end talent >>>>>> mid draft talent, but you'd have to be prepared for a Banfield running around for some team you hate.
May give us an opportunity to trade into 2026.

Asking for a friend but is 'golden goose' better than a Unicorn?

They are both on the same tier, now the golden unicorn that's a different story.

2021 draft thread became a topic for discussion a day and about 600 pages ago, revealing lots of melts that we took Brady Hough (Fox Footy rank 72) over Arlo Draper (taken shortly after and delisted after 0 games).

Lots of certainty that looks pretty hilarious a year or two later.
Nearly as many mentions in this thread as 2021.

have the same question, know the broadcast is at 4 but i'm sure fox will pad it with the usual bullshit

Geelong’s F1 would interest me. Chances are they’ll be good again next year but on the flipside we’d be buying it at 16-18 with a chance it could be better.

13 for 19 and F1? Saints F2 going back? What’s Lindsay worth to them?
I think we would have to include our F2 in place of the Saints' F2 for that one. Still a deal I'd pull the trigger on if we were interested in a player around Geelong's pick.

Nah not really

People just want to be on the side of personal attacks on peoples mental health and just wanna justify themselves mostly because its something they have also done

:$

Yes, the guy clearly posting under an alt account who is faux-melting for the reacts. I pray for their well-being.

Just relax mate, you got a bit carried away and were called out, just move on.

In terms of high value AFL-traits, how could it be any different?
You could very easily make an argument that the ultimate high-value AFL trait is the ability to play against men - which Sharp did the best out of that group this year.

You're honestly a great poster, but an ounce of humility would make make you fantastic.

The eagles draft experts will tell me why I have over tought this one, however I would think by bidding on Dean early, you are almost certainly costing yourself any chance of pick 13 coming in a pick or two to 12 or 11?

Right now, as it stands you have pick 13.. take out all other matches, as they come after this pick, simplistically thinking this pick comes in 2 by taking 9 and 11 of CFC? Well played in theory?

However, by bidding this early, CFC will now trade pick 9 and 11 to two certain users and two clubs - North and Essendon on almost the exact same list build timeline - direct competitors.

Eagles are more likely to get pick 1, 2 and 11 by NOT bidding on Dean, than bidding on him?

They will 100% not get that pick 13 higher by bidding and remain a good to great chance of it coming in one or two spots by not bidding?

Scenario 1 (Simplistic scenario where Carlton just cop it):

West Coast bid pick 1 or 2, Carlton do no trades and match.

West Coast will pick 1,2,11.... well played WC.

Won't Happen

Scenario 2:

West Coast bid pick 1 or 2, Carlton trade and match.

West Coast will pick 1,2,13.... north and Essendon 100% use those picks.

Media speculated scenario

Scenario 3:

West Coast don't bid on Dean, pick their player or bid on Patterson/Annable (or Richmond do)

Richmond pick Dean pick 6.. Carlton Match and lose 9/11 and get 22 (may stay in to get this one back).

West Coast will pick 1,2,11....

Better for Eagles - Carlton still may trade here as pick 22 is touch and go

Scenario 4:

West Coast don't bid on Dean, pick their player or bid on Patterson/Annable (or Richmond do)

Richmond don't bid Dean.. Essendon do Carlton Match and lose 9/11 and get 18 (almost certainly stay in for this pick).

West Coast will pick 1,2,11....

Best case for eagles and likely if they don't bid?
Us bidding is not about pick 13. It's about pick 9.

And Chesser. **** you! (Jokes)
