With Pick 41, Saints have selected Charlie Banfield.

Charlie is a 192cm mid-forward with a high workrate, able to cover plenty of ground from the wing. His large frame and athleticism make him a versatile prospect, able to throw his size around in the contest, or clunk a strong mark and hit the scoreboard. With some elite qualities, Charlie performed strongly in the WAFL Colts Grand Final, taking best-on-ground honours with 2 goals and 28 disposals. In addition, he won the WA State Combine 2km time trial with a time of 6:08 - his aerobic ability likely a big factor in what drew the Saints to him.

Welcome Charlie!

His old man was a beast of a player.
Welcome to the Saints Charlie. Go well.

If you dont want to watch the whole thing go to the 20 minute mark of the second, a two effort rundown to effect a tackle, followed by another effort to take a pack mark followed a fifty metre perfect pass to a player midfield on the 50.
Nice size moves well.
Dalrymple special.

I get Harvey Langford mixed with Blake Acres vibes. Looks a bit more mobile than Langford but kicking is more Acres-like.

Looks to be a very competent mark, a good tackler, and a good endurance runner. May need a touch of work with his kicking, but plenty to work with.

From his highlights he hit some nice passes when he had time but missed a few as well some of which were under immense pressure ..... his handballing looks solid ..... and overhead marking looks very good

Plenty of big bodied inside mids who are average kicks ... Cripps was one early on but has improved

Someone pointed out in the draft thread one highlight where he chased 2 players down .. repeat efforts ... which forced a turn over then got off the floor and sprint 25m to take an overhead contested mark from the rebound kick .... that natural never give up competitive nature is pure rolled gold ... think he pin pointed a 40m pass from the resulting mark as well while gassed

Boxshall has a WA mate now as well

Did anyone at all have an inkling we were after this guy?
Was it a best of the rest type scenarios and we were happy he slid?
I really had not much interest in this draft, like most of us, but obviously our now -professional team were keeping it under out hats.
Appears that we have got a good one!
Also handy that it’s a mate from WA for Boxshall.

Happy with our two newbies, and happy for Byrnes.

Roll on season 2026!

I think it'll be great for him to get out of the perth goldfish bowl and cut his teeth as his own man, not smothered in a town where most citizens worship his dad.

He's got Ryan, Boxy, Collard, Carroll, Henry, and Hill for a bit of sandgroper company, plus Enright who's originally from WA.

Twomney mentioned we had 'done our work on him' so seems like someone we were hoping was available at our pick.

Good to see he had a jumper at his house in preparation.

18 year-old Banfield told The West Australian he was delighted to land at the Saints with pick 41 after he had conversations with them during a nervy pre-draft period and said his father was as excited as he was.

“He was just over the moon for me to have the opportunity to play AFL football and the work that I’ve put in,” he said. “He was super excited as a dad for that to work out for me, because that’s been a lifelong dream for myself. “It is a very nerve-wracking couple of weeks after the combine. Once you get that done, it’s out of your control.

“I had the mindset, if I can just control what I can control now, it’s up to the clubs whether they want to get me on the list. I did everything I could so to get to this moment, I’m over the moon.

“My dad helped me throughout that. It was definitely a process that I’ve learned from and it was definitely not easy, but I worked my way through it.”

“I definitely was on the Eagles radar and they had the chance to sort of pick me up but it’s each their own,” Banfield said.

“They’ve watched enough footy of me and I guess if they saw better possibilities, that’s how it works out. I’m overjoyed to join the Saints, a great club and I feel like I could fit in there really well.”
