What sort of team will take the field in NAB cup opener ?

People are very harsh on Varcoe. Drafted in 2005. Did no pre-season to speak of, so effectively was a 2006 draftee. So he has just completed his "2nd" year of full-time football. He is not a forward pocket like Cyril Rioli. He is a wing/ midfielder/ half forward Remember Chance Bateman and...

What sort of team will take the field in NAB cup opener ?

Step on down Nathan Djerkurra and Simon Hogan. These two guys at the very least need to be played all pres-season, so we know what we have in the tank in 2009. BTW, I read in Rizzo's training post that Djerkurra is trialling up forward. Is this his best spot? I always thought he was better...

Back three - how much longer?

I think I read somewhere that Tom Gillies has shown something in his short time. A very smart pick up you would think.

    Big Improver of 2009

I am a keen cats fan, but rarely, if ever get to see the VFL. I therefore rely on those that see some games to help build my understanding of young players. In terms of big improvers, I think we could really use another quick forward. I dont think our problem is our lack of key forwards...

Potential Draftee Watch - Version 2008

Are there any Cyril Rioli clones? We need a lightnig, balanced, aggressive player who will take full toll of all the ball we generate inside 50m. Basically what Travis Varcoe was supposed to be.

    Round 1 - gf rematch

I hate Hawthorn FC. I want to beat them 3 times next season. By 100 points in each H&A game. And then by 1 point in GF. I watched GF for first time since event last night. And despite result, the better side lost. It happens sometimes. And I am absolutely torn to pieces because of it.

    Steven King in 2008 GF

We all have our favourites and those we don't like for one reason or another. For mine, every time I watch Blake play, I am left scratching my head as to how he gets a game. I really hope that over pre-season the slate is wiped clean and that Mumford is given an opportunity to make a proper...

Potential Draftee Watch - Version 2008

Is the general consensus that if Swift is there we WILL take him? The rumours certainly are that we are very keen on him. I wonder which sides with picks ahead are seriously considering him. Can I pose the question that if Yarran were to slide to us, would he interest us? I saw his highlights...

Potential Draftee Watch - Version 2008

Can someone who saw a bit of VFL give me the verdict on Scott Simpson & Dan McKenna. Are we likely to get 0, 1 or 2 players from these two guys.

Potential Draftee Watch - Version 2008

Re: Who to pick up in the draft Have been surprised it has taken so long to get a thread like this up and running. Most club boards already have one... Nevertheless, having gone tall last year, we need some more midfieldersfor mine. Maybe 3 midfielders and 1 tall. (No more rucks please)...

    Paddy Ryder or Tom Hawkins?

I'll address you bomber fans as a collective. I not trying to say Ryder can't play. Just that I reckon its clearer what Hawkins will become than Ryder. Hence Hawkins is th better or surer option. Perhaps I went a little hard on Ryder at the start, but I just dont see what his killer blow...

    Paddy Ryder or Tom Hawkins?

The big Tommahawk will be running 15s on a beep test by the time Ryder nudges 100kg. Building an engine/ fitness is an easier game than putting on 10kg, just to be able to compete

    Paddy Ryder or Tom Hawkins?

Half backs have an easy gig in my book. Their stats will usually look pretty good,no matter how they play. As an outsider, I would not choose Ryder amongst the first five players I could take from Essendons list right now. Thinking Reimers, Houli, Jetta, Gumbleton, Myers ll before I would get...

    Paddy Ryder or Tom Hawkins?

Believe me, Ryder would be plaing in our 2nds as well. I am not completely potting him as a dud, just saying it is far fro certain where he igoing to make his mark. I tink the 16 AFL coaches would plump fo Hawkins too if given the choice.
