Churches usually aren't cash rich, but own heaps of property. They rent their own buildings for offices and services and the $$$$ rolls in as government subsidies. Education, health, aged care, welfare, etc.
It is an interesting theory. You are on a hiding to nothing getting concrete evidence either way. There is even bugger all on other significant players from the time, such as Pontius Pilate. If there is nothing on the Governor, how much primary sources can you expect from an obscure tradie...

Re debating whether Jesus met the Jewish prophesies is kind of pointless. They've been doing it for centuries. I'd just say a couple of things from team Jesus:
- Jesus IS the temple. THat wasn't expected, but it's how it panned out (from a Christian perspective)
