We know he was close to leaving last year, need to make sure we give him a reason to hang around. If not for that, then get him to play really well to drive his price skywards.

Whats skywards for essendon?
A pick in the 20s in return for Martin. :(

We need a bidding war.

Best case he finally see’s progress and signs longterm.
He’d would of been on nice coin for the past 5 years..
Stick fat!

"GOLD Coast is confident a meeting with Jack Martin late last year will help the speedster overcome an unsettling off-season and fulfil his lofty potential in 2019"

Not really known for his speed though is he? These feel a lot like the words of a journo that has only seen a photo of Jack and supposed that the slightly built indigenous kid must be quick.

As for the wording used by Dew; I think it's fair to say he already has a pretty good idea of what Jack is planning on doing after this year.
He’s very quick. We just haven’t seen a lot of it as he has mostly been playing up forward or has been injured. Stick him on a wing or in the centre and just let him go. I’ve been waiting for years for us to play him predominantly through the midfield. Hopefully with him getting super fit this is the year.
Praying that he stays with us. There was nothing from Jack’s camp last year, all the talk was coming from the media and Essendon.

He's no slouch, but I would not say he has been notably fast either. It isn't, or at least hasn't been, his biggest weapon; and he certainly wouldn't be the first Suns player that came to mind if you said "speedster".

I dont doubt that all of the noise from last year's trade period was coming from Essedon/ southern media - but if I'm being honest I still think he's more likely to leave than to re sign with the Suns.
Having said that there is a long season between now and then. This year more than most anything can happen.

"We had a lot of people want to come to the footy club both on and off the field," Dew said.

"I think that's a great sign for us, particularly the guys who have come from other clubs. They're quite excited about living here and having an opportunity at the footy club.

"Within the footy club, everyone feels that. Externally they're sitting there waiting to see how it translates to on-field success."

'Hope I make them proud': Family drives talented Sun
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-02-03/hope-i-make-them-proud-family-drives-talented-sun

"There isn't any hierarchy here, no egos, everyone is pretty young and learning so I think I fit in pretty well," he said.

"I love it. I don't think I'm looking to go back to Adelaide, I love it too much up here and loving the boys up here.

"There's a lot of opportunities for me.

"I'm loving the vibe and the culture we're starting to build. Having Dave Swallow and [Jarrod} Wittsy wanting to make the club better (by signing five-year deals), it's good to see that."

Thats what we need to hear, positive vibes from our young recruits, that's awesome

Either way just need to give him the biggest opportunity to show the competition what he is capable of.

Hope he hasn't set his sights on Essendon in 2020 - after giving away their 2019 1st rd pick for Dylan Shiel the cupboard is pretty bare to get adequate compensation from them

Really like the shade of blue here for the guernsey. If thats how it looks live then not nearly as bad as I thought. Although that red neck bit looks odd, and looking at the shade of yellow on the side panelling I feel like it may be a bit touched up/ the flash lighting is making it look lighter than it is.

I think they may have just gone with Weller as the young, good looking local? Although wouldn't be surprised if he and/or Bowes were added to the leadership group as young leaders of sorts.

Agreed, They look way better on a human than just a website thumbnail. Red tab on the chest is rather out of place though.

Surely Zorko isn’t still the Captain of that club. He’s been exposed pardon the pun of being a pure piece of slime.
guess they don't take person life antics into consideration. :grimacing:

Imagine if our captain refused to shake hands with people and then next tine abuse them because they won... yuck

Definitely not leadership qualify. When I saw that, it was such a childish act. But guess they don't have many options.

Lachie Weller declares his interest in becoming a leader at the Gold Coast Suns
Tom Boswell, @TomBoswellGCB, Gold Coast Bulletin

“I played on the wing towards the back end of last season and I was probably playing better football,” Weller said.

“It depends with injuries. Last year I went down back a fair bit when Pearce Hanley was out but I feel we have a lot more depth this year so I might be able to cement my spot on the wing.”
