I'd try him as a run with tagger, or a back pocket.

Tagger does seem like the best option left. Let him play to his strengths e.g. defensive efforts, and hope that time spent following a more accomplished player around the park might help fill in whatever it is that he's currently missing.

That approach certainly worked for one of our previous captains

Willo injury is back. Had stress fractures last year which have flared up again. This comes from within the playing group. I didn't ask about crohns but I have no reason to believe this source would be wrong so I'm confident it is the back.

Also the club are beside themselves regarding Walsh, within the club he's already being considered in our top half dozen or so players. This comes from the top brass at the club (off field).

Did they mention an expected return date for Willo?

Not surprised by the commentary regarding Walsh. We're going to have many exciting players in the club but I think he'll take over the captaincy after Cripps and Doc.

And please don't take that comment as though I'm trying to push Cripps and Docherty out of the captaincy position. I'm making this comment because sometimes you just know what you've got. Walsh will be a leader of the club at some stage in the future.

Nah, weiters will step up and be a great captain while Walsh, SPS, Dow and Charlie are the stars.

Or maybe play him as what he is - a midfielder.

I think he's the kind of player most clubs would leave in the VFL for 4+ years, playing on the ball, racking up 25-30 touches a game, and then bring him into the seniors as a 23yo who nobody has heard of after the retirement of a club great, at which time he'd play a solid role as a mid rotation and everyone would comment on how amazing the depth of said club is that they can have a no-name player slot into their senior system and look right at home.

Not every player can be in the starting 22. No reason to **** around with a player's development trying to turn them into something else just so they can play seniors. Just play him in his preferred position in the reserves, and let time and experience do the rest.

I’ve heard this re Willo from a playing group member that his back issue has flared up again regrettably, just wish the club would come clean on it

Why stoked?

Back stress fractures/reactions can be a bit of a b**** to manage, but the club has nursed McKay and Cripps through similar issues, albeit Williamson's back does seem to be worse. There should be a definite resolution at some stage, although if this episode doesn't resolve as planned it's probably another year on the sidelines.

Crohn's can be awful and really unpredictable and the medications used to treat it aren't ideal to be on long-term.

If it's stress fractures to the back just come out and say it.

It's something he will get over. I had them. It just takes a little time.

A couple of ITK posters suggested he would never play again... that doesn't align with stress fractures,

I still feel so confused.

I thought I’d have something definitive on Willo today but donuts....sorry..I’ll keep prodding.
One little piece of info I did get though is that one of Russell’s first impressions of our playing group is that he thought there was a mental fragility amongst some of the younger and senior players. Not sure what that means though.

is this still a thing now? or has it been 'fixed'

I interpret that as a lack of inner drive and ability to deal with adversity.

Basically the opposite of Walsh.
