Stemming from MS3s advice:

Barring Conigs, more obtainable targets may be:

Stephen Hill (Freo sinking ship)
David Swallow (Does the Captain thing hold much sway at GC?)

Doubt we'd go for Tomlinson given the overall height of our list, but that's not out of the realm of possibility either.

Brandon Ellis spoken about previously, but I personally wouldn't be falling over myself to grab

It’s an exceptional group that SOS has put together, good balance between inside and out, all growing and learning together, led by an absolute gun in Cripps, what more could we have asked for in a midfield group put together from scratch over 3-4 years, it is just amazing the amount of talent SOS has been able to cram in to the middle of the ground. I can’t see any of them failing at this stage which will give us great options and versatility in the future, will be able to chop and change our mids to match up on any side in the comp in the years ahead. Easily the best group of young mids in the comp going forward and the envy of every club imo, SOS has done an unbelievable job in putting together our list and getting the picks and trades to get it done, no one could have done a better job than SOS has done in such a short space of time. Has more than done his part, now it is up to the rest to get there parts right and drive us back to where we belong, at the top of the heap with 17 flags to start with.
SOS is the best.

Wish we picked up Brendan Goddard tbh. Obviously we were never to know that Docherty would go down, but he would be so sexual on our half back line right meow. I know what y’all will say ‘he’s not in our long term plan, we should just play a kid instead’.. but.. he can play similar to Docherty, and it will allow others to get comfortable with playing around that sort of player, then next year Docherty slots back in like a glove. And also, Goddard is a closet blues man at heart, and he wears a long sleeve like a god, he does the three quarter long sleeve. Wowie.

Brendon Goddard is, shall we put it, not an overwhelmingly positive influence on group dynamics.

And he's physically cooked.

He’s played 2 afl games mate , can’t get much more than that
I was nit picking, but raw is usually reserved for players that don't yet have their games together enough to play at the elite level. That doesn't really describe Setterfield imo.

... but like I say, I was nit picking so no biggie.

2022-23 Premiership Side:

Docherty Weitering Plowman
Marchbank Macreadie/Williamson? Setterfield
O'Brien Cripps Fisher
Cunningham Curnow SPS
Gibbons McKay McGovern
Phillips Dow Walsh
Murphy Silvagni Stocker

Perhaps throw McGovern back as we will need another tall back if Macreadie/Williamson don't come on and then SilvagniDe Koning play 3rd tall forward. Probably need a ruckman in an ideal world as well unless Kruezer can somehow kick on, or maybe De Koning will come on. Cunningham, Gibbons and Stocker just need to string it together but looking probable the others look locks barring injuries, touchwood. Next few years drafts add a bit of depth albeit will be young. Bring in a gun like Josh Kelly in the interim as well and there is genuine reason for optimism

From carltonfc website and NB’s, Sammy Fisher returns in fine form - hoping he’s still in the mix for any list spot that is open for us.
“In his first hitout for 2019, Sam Fisher picked up from where he left off last season. The midfielder was the pick of the bunch for the Blues, collecting over 20 disposals, nine clearances and a goal in limited game-time.”

Walsh in his first year is going to average 20 possessions a game?
Dow played many midfield minutes last year and had one 20 possession game. Just one.
A first year player will often get a RS nomination after such a game, but Walsh is going to have around 16 of them?

It's not going to happen but if anyone could do it, it may be Walsh.
Called him Mr. Everywhere last year but he'll need to elevate that to superman status to muster those sorts of numbers.
Where you at now? Where’s every one at? I felt like Tom cruise in Jerry Maguire for a minute. I’d written my mission statement. Printed it. Handed out copies to everyone.....got sacked. Left. Saying “who’s coming with me?” with the fish on the way out.

Tonight Sammy Walsh was my Rodney Tidwell. “You’re loving me now aren’t ya Jerry?”

Yes, everyone can have opinions. My opinion is that Weitering is a class player suffering in a team with a very weak midfield that allows the opposition to complete training drill inside 50s. This results in giving defenders almost zero chance to impact the mark and goal.

IMO, put Weiters alongside Rance at Richmond (and their collective defensive unit and midfield) and people would be drooling.

IMO, a lot of people cant separate the impact of the mechanics of the game with a player's performance.

Case in point. Lever played a loose role in defense and played to his strengths at Adelaide (intercept marking). Adelaide's def make up allowed him to play that role VERY well and flourish. Melbourne paid a massive price based on this VERY skilful player. Lever goes to Melbourne and they ask him to play more lock down defence initially. Lever was nowhere near as effective and didn't look like he was great value based on what they paid for him. After that, Dees started changing how they used him, then he went down with injury.

Funnily enough, Tom Doedee took over for Adelaide as the intercept mark in their very experienced defence and now he looks VERY good like Lever before him.

Moral. Game mechanics, team experience play such a huge part in how we rate players. Weitering has never had the same support/opportunities. Weitering has suffered from very weak defensive unit being flooded non stop by midfielders.

Anyway, just an opinion like everyone elses.

Weitering was very good last night

Think he is trying to say something like this.

Walsh will collect 15 possessions in the midfield next year while his opponent will collect it 30 times. If Walsh gets it 20 times then his opponent gets it 35 times. You get the picture.

Walsh will be a good player but in 2019, will have little or negative impact on outcomes. That sounds negative but it is more reality of a first year mid.

I'm sure GoBlue is a fan of Walsh like me...we just have to wait 2-3 years to see the real deal on show.
Was very good last night 28 pozzies o_O

25 a game.
I did go on to say that if anyone could, he may.

20 is still a lot as we'll find out

I am still in disbelief that a first year midfielder has seemingly just come in and become a top 5 player at the club and already a significant ball-winner. We've been crying out for players that can win the ball 20+ times consistently to reduce the load on Cripps, all indications are that Walsh is already there, pretty confident he got around 20-25 last week if they kept count.

Fisher is ready to get 20+ consistently too.

Setterfield 19 in only his 2nd match back is super encouraging.

Dow was much improved yesterday with 19.

Coming together very nicely, with Walsh being the huge bonus right now.

Cripps to Walsh, get used to hearing that a bit [emoji41]

The more we have the ball......the less the opposition will......obviously. :)

Fisher is likely to tip that 20 possession a game mark, with Dow and Setterfield not far behind and probably Kennedy and SPS also.
When it clicks, it will really click and imagine a Coniglio in the mix next year....I did say imagine.

In the midfield:

I consider Cripps, Walsh, Fisher and Murphy to be 20+ possessions per game locks.
Setterfield, Dow, SPS and hopefully a fit Kennedy will hover around that mark too, in the 18-22 range.

It's a handy baseline to work from.

Not even including O'Brien here too, who I massively rate.
