$12 million in debt
7 Players named Jack (only one them good & he's on "mental illness" break)
1 solitary facial expression on their coach's face
1 "home" game to be played in China because poverty

I can't decide if this hopelessly vanilla & perpetually incompetent club is more ****ed off field or on it. Nor am I certain Ben Dixon is a plant who's deliberately sabotaged their goalkicking routines when there's a 1% a chance he achieved it by accident. Either way the Saints are tracking about as well as Fatty McCartin and are several lengths ahead of Norf in the race for being the next club to fold.

So Saints fans, what are the odds of heaving yourselves out of the bottom 4 or recording a profit this year?

Bagging St Kilda is like Soy Sauce - not much fun to Kikkoman when he's down.

I actually felt sorry for them reading their board over the pre-season.

Huh?? Not only is it hugely enjoyable, its also the main reason this forum exists!

What a pathetic joke of a club. Was gifted a GF berth in 2017 due to North injuries and they still couldn't defeat the South Australian franchise.

12 million in debt with no sign of a turn around. They should merge with Carlton and waste high draft picks together.

They should never have given up Tasmania. As we've seen, it's a boon and a saviour for weak minnow clubs.

Or you could stick it out for 4 decades wallowing at the bottom, rattle the tin for handouts and have 1 good year....all will be forgotten and you can dish out advice like it never happened.

This is pretty spot on, at a time when there were far more expansion markets open, they bailed on the safest one. Despite not being a powerhouse club, they shifted their focus towards Seaford and defending sex offenders, whilst other clubs in a similar position locked down good deals to sell games. Now there's no decent secondary markets open to them, so they got stuck with the China disaster.

With the smaller Victorian clubs looking for easy money selling games, it was always going to be a game of musical chairs, and the music has stopped now. The shit will hit the fan even more if the Tassie government grows a spine too. :$

They did attempt New Zealand? :$

Every AFL club defends sex offenders though, so we can't fault them for that.

Mmm. Except they wouldn't survive. Or they could win 2 flags in 60 years, that seems to work.

Sure, Richmond has only won 2 flags in the last 40 years despite it being the worst period of our history, but hey, we're no Collingwood.

True, that wasn't the dumbest move (albeit highly speculative) though, hard to say who f***ed that one up out of them or the AFL. They still sat on their hands for a few years either side of that deal though.

It all started going south for St.Kilda the day Ross Lyon walked out................. wait, wut?!

They'd want to hope the value of the TV Rights keeps ballooning, I think they're fairly safe so long as it does but the year it doesn't will be when the music finally stops and the AFL may come down on any clubs left without a chair. Gill's already publicly warned the club to get its shit in order.

Lol whatever makes you feel good

Even IF they’d won a premiership in ‘09/‘10 they’d still be in this same predicament as its hard to get new legions of millennials jumping on as fans of a club so shallow in success.

Sadly for St Kilda (and children of St Kilda supporters) it’s a kind of ‘hand-me-down’ following that you either accept to keep your old man happy, or you somehow keep it a secret that you’re actually a new Hawthorn member until you leave home.

Saints are at their usual position now in the food chain so Gil must take that into consideration in the plans to dissolve another Victorian club and also make an example of them for being so shit.

Fremantle only dodge the axe for the moment because WA still has some residue mining money trickling through that is worth bleeding them of first.

Thats a very good point. I have no idea how clubs like St.Kilda & Doggies manage to appeal to kids but at least the Doggies have a recent flag to fall back on. St.Kilda have a B&W photo of a man in a Collingwood jumper holding a cup and copies of The Streak DVD. You can argue they didn't even get Tony Lockett's best years and their only genuine stars since then were Robert Harvey who was too introverted to be marketable, and Nick Reiwoldt who rarely kicked goals in GFs but never failed to cry after them.

St.Kilda's marketing department should target hipsters, they're attracted to things that are old, unfashionable & shit.

Whatever happened to El Dubya?

Piss off minnow.

Even with the year we had in 2018 we racked up 16,000 more members than the irrelevant shitpile that is Norf. Even after the year we had in 2018 our 2019 numbers are tracking to be 10-15,000 more than that.

Not to mention probably 4 x the crowd numbers.

And our green shoots.

Most of your crowd numbers come from the "big games" you're involved in that often end up with your team getting belted every week. Like 2017 with all your Friday night games :$

Get back to me when you have your own VFL team and aren't pleading for a priority pick every season. "Please Gil...can we have some more picks?"

Poor little minnow.

Always have been and always will be a basket case.

Best thing for everyone is spend the last 25c Norf has left in petty cash and buy a box of matches.
