Player Watch #18: Alex Rance

As someone who has had both traditional reco and a Lars reco I would love him to.

But it wont happen,he will have a traditional reco if scans confirm the ACL injury.

There isnt enough medical data/ research for clubs to take the risk unless it's an older player at the back end of their career

At 30 years of age doesn’t rancey fit into that category? I don’t know enough about it but imagine getting him back this year and having him for the back half of our season?
Having had both done yourself, what was ur experience with both?

I love this lucky with injuries garbage, i guess from 2018 that Graham 6, Conca 6, Broad 6* ( 3 because of camera action ) Houli 9, Butler 9, Prestia 11, Rioli 12 don't count because they are not Martin, Rance , Reiwoldt and Cotchin. It seems to be if those 4 aren't injured then it is seen as Richmond having a good run with injuries.

PS: i include Conca because he was on the list and got injured.

I came in here to offer condolences but I have to pull you up on this - Goldsack himself confirmed the ACL was fully ruptured but was a "clean" rupture, as in there was no surrounding damage to other parts of the knee.

To the rest of you - it's tough to take, but Richmond are a quality side so I think you guys will be completely fine. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thanks

Don't reckon 'completely fine' is right. We can get through this. But losing Rance is HUGE. Hopefully Garthwaite will come in a do his thing. Much more defensive. But he's a quality kid.

Will be 30 next year. I dont think he will want to go out like this. I see him coming back next year and playing at least one more for a last roll of the dice for another flag or maybe, maybe two more seasons to end of 2021 and then that's it.
Isn’t he contracted to the end of 2021?

Trying to take some positives out of all of this.

- It's happened in round 1, so if it is a full reco he will at least have a full pre-season and be ready to go round 1 2020.

- A year off could possibly refresh him and add years to the back of his career?

- We're going to get the chance to see if Garthwaite is up to it.

- Teams in recent years have shown us that losing one key player is not a total disaster, it can be covered.

- We still have Dave Astbury & Dylan Grimes, they're really good at football.
One of the better quotes I’ve seen on BF. Genuinely wish Rance the best of news and if it’s bad, a quick recovery.

Thanks

so if he is defensive who can play the rance role?

I reckon we are a decent chance for scans to come back not as bad as most of us suspect. Looked pretty innocuous. 22 weeks til finals.

Anyway if it is a full blown ACL we have more options in the backs department that just about any other line. Good opportunity to see who wants to step up.
Club is 95% sure it’s an acl, scans will just confirm this. No miracle on this one unfortunately.

i fully expect him to retire at the end of 2021 so he only has 2 years left with us. so why not go the lars ?
I'm all for the LARS in this situation as I think getting back this year is his best shot at another flag.

However, I don't think he will do it, for Rance there is more to life than footy and he will go the traditional reco.

Gutted for Rance, the playing group and us supporters

Classy the way Rance has gone about it - he knew it was serious when it first happened but chose to be positive for the boys...true champion

And you just know he will work closely with whoever takes his spot ( Garth/ Balta) that’s the way he rolls....that’s the way our club rolls
