just in, Carlton soar to second on the ladder

That reminds me of that f!0g BT banging on about the teams percentage either side of quarter time.

How is it that we couldn't get any vision or in depth discussion on how the teams were setting at centre bounces and adjusting to the 6-6-6 rule but we get 5 minutes on Richmond having a percentage of 4000 5 minutes into the second quarter.

Disgusting incident at the end of the game with a scuffle. The campaigner Richmond flog who punched out the bloke should be banned for life.

A 19 yo was charged with riotous behaviour and fined something like $350. Victims did not want to pursue the matter further.

Hopefully the police lay charges. Should be charged (and hopefully convicted) of assault at the least.

Just on Charlie I get really frustrated with people claiming AFL players don't try.

Charlie ran 15km (pretty much the most of any player) in the game, was opposed to a player who has been AA for the last 5 years and had his marking been better in difficult conditions (remember Rance dropped two chest marks) he could have ended the night with 2 goals, 18 possessions and 6 marks.

It should be remembered that accusing a player of not trying, or partying to hard, is accusing people like Bolton and Russell of accepting that standard. Now I don't know those two personally but they certainly don't strike me as people who would accept that no matter how talented the culprit is.
Well said. He had a dog of a game.

Wouldn't read too much into it unless the pattern is repeated for a few games.

Little bit crestfallen from goalless quarters, but that's footy.

Starting to believe that it's not really an ideal start to the season by playing a strong opponent in every season opener.

I get annoyed that St Kilda (a similar battler to us) are having a cake start to the season.

No point crying over spilt milk, and really, the stunning, swashbuckling debut of Sam Walsh overrides any negatives I feel right now, That Three Musketeer Trio of Cripps, Paddy Wow and Walsh are seriously gonna wreck havoc on this league.

Finally my deepest empathy and positive/healing thoughts to Alex Rance. My perspective is this if you booed/jeered or mocked Rance after he did his knee, you are pretty much spitting in the face of Sam Docherty, and all his pain and hardships over the past 18 months (and onwards)

Anyhow Tally Ho onto Port next week (and I am feeling rather confident we can get the chocolates over there, would be extremely satisfying to show up Kane Cornes too :) )

There'll come a time when we're the strong opponent...

Gotta play them all at some stage. I wouldn't be surprised if the push for a GF rematch continues to gain legs. On the plus side - by the time it's a thing we should be playing in that match anyway ;) And presumably we'd be lobbying for another big marquee game during the season if we were to lose our regular season opener.

On St Kilda - looks like a cake, but gee, if they lose, doesn't it put a heap of pressure on them.

GC (Marvel), Ess (Marvel), Freo (Optus), Haw (Marvel), Mel (MCG), Ade (Marvel), GWS (UNSW), WC (Marvel), Col (MCG), Car (Marvel), PA (China)

A round one loss to the spoon favourites, which is a real possibility, and the wheels are well and truly off.

I'll take a big game against a strong opponent to fire the boys up any day.

I said it when I saw it

Boxing with a street sign outside the harp in kew at 2am screaming "I'm Patrick Cripps" he was exceedingly loose

I don't really care as long as he doesn't hurt anyone else or himself.

I've played footy with many loose units that played great footy, held down their jobs then would go apeshit on a night out. They can't all be choir boys but if you had the choice you'd rather the Walsh, Weitering, Docherty types over the Curnow and Fasolo types.

When was this?

Well, he has kinda been pretty awful all preseason too.

Hope he bounces back next week. I think a lot of us were expecting a full blown breakout year with 40-50 goals and some BOG performances.

He played what a quarter in JLT 1 and had 14 touches, 7 marks and kicked 1.2 in JLT 2

And this was from fox footy about the practice match against the hawks "Curnow drew huge applause every time he so much looked at the Sherrin, with his hulking frame and huge aerobic capacity requiring a plethora of Hawks defenders to attempt to quell his influence."

Pretty awful is subjective I suppose

Well, overall I wasn’t to unhappy with what I saw. No bagging of any individual required (except maybe CC, but might be a good motivator for him)

1. You can’t give a gun team like the tigs a 40 point start & expect to win. Qtr 2&3 we came back really well, but it did drain us, especially with it being so muggy, it sucks the life out of you especially the younger ones. You could tell by the amount of sweat they had pouring off them.

2. I thought some of the problems came down to strategy & team setup, which is on Bolton.
Ed Curnow shouldn’t play forward, too slow in his decision making, which allowed tigs defence to setup. Should’ve been tagging Cotchin imo. SPS was wasted early , seemed to be playing down back, needs to get his hands on it & when he did we came back into the game.
Also, the kick outs were terrible, we didn’t run more than 5mtrs before chipping to the pocket where tigs strangled us. What was going on there? There were plenty of opportunities to run straight up the middle & kick long as tigs were onto us with a crappy little kicks.

3. Forward line needs improvement if only in communication as we just seemed to get into each other’s way a lot.

4. Defensively I thought we were pretty good, JW was really good, Jones was good, but did get caught under the ball a bit, ( hit on jack, may cost him a week, only cause he was off the ball. Jack also went down like he was shot!)

5. But overall, I’m thinking we will upset quite a few as we gel better, & get our setups working.

6. Lastly, good on Harry kicking that last goal as it covered the margin, put some nice cabbage in my pocket.👍😃
Agree with the kick outs very repetitive, short and slow to the pocket along the boundary line allows Richmond to clog things up way to easily, we need to be going to different areas of the ground to give ourselves a quicker and greater advantage by being way less predictable

Richmond allowed and preferred us doing it. We made no effort to alter and kept playing in their hands. I’ll leave it there.

Setterfield was already in the bag when we pitched our next years first rounder for Shiel.
It didn't happen and maybe was unlikely to ever do so, but if GWS wanted their way and Essendon held their ground with their original offer......????

Anyway, I was always happy with Setterfield.
Looked like a star in the making in 2016 and nothing has changed, now that he's actually in good health.

Setterfield for me struggle with the speed a little, once he gets used to the pace of AFL football, he will be a lot better for the run.

CC did run over 15kms. Just out of touch.

Tigers were impressive early and late.

Good signs but plenty to work on.

Can't let the ball get over the back like we did, especially when in a pack in back line. Those Nankervis goals were shocking defending.

Can't just cough up the ball like we did: dropped marks, OOF and kicks straight to loose defenders. Better to move the ball backwards than hacking it blindly forward to extra numbers.

Just on Charlie, if ever there was a game to take him off and sit him on the pine for 5 minutes or so, this was it. Then put him on the ball when he comes back on. He needs to become involved.

I not sure where to put this and i might get a ban but the Blues fans that were booing Rance as he got carried off should be embarrased.
Your club has gone through it twice in 2 years with your captain. If any club should know what its like its you guys.
The only word that comes to mind is scum.
Appolagies to the blues fans that didnt boo him.

on a different note your young guys look good.
Charlie Curnow had a down game but will be a superstar. He and Mckay are very exiting.
Dow and Walsh will also be A graders.
I hope we meet you in a final in a year or two.
Agree and thankyou.

However there are always going to be a few supporters in every team that are dickheads. For example the vision of the Tigers supporter knocking some bloke at the end of the game.

A couple of weeks back but you managed to keep it to yourself till after the match. Yeah right.
Why would I bring unecessary ‘negativity’ to one of our young stars? What does that acheive? I live in Richmond and see our players, and players of other clubs, out all the time. I don’t feel the need to post every single piece of irrelevant dribble on this forum where AFL ‘journalists’ source a lot of their information.

The thing with Broad though was he clearly ran straight to the boundary and then we he got tackled clearly had balled straight over the line, I don't have an issue with him not being pinged for holding but surely it was deliberate, especially looking at some others that were paid.

Free kick every day of the week and twice on Sundays, kick a goal there with Rance getting injured in the same chain of play and it’s absolutely game on

Rubbish, I was booing, but I can tell you it was all to do with the non free kick against Broad...

Coaching staff need to sort that out quickly. Our whole forward entry strategy seemed to be bomb it long and high.

You'd hope that's not what they are being instructed to do else the coaching team needs to be looked at.
nothing wrong with bombing long and high given our tall targets back there. But just do it quickly. look up if there's no immediately obvious lead up target just go long and fast. no use waiting 5-6 seconds for the AFL's best back 6 to set up.

charlie is usually very good at this, ed not so much...

I wouldn't call 14 touches in 90 mins game time, including missing crucial shots st goal, and dropping marks he would usually stick, particularly boner inducing.
