There's something wrong with this club

a poser mentioned this a year ago but i agree - ASADA has ruined this club for years. Unfortunately, the only times where we play with any intensity is if we are under some kind of pressure. We can never just play with intensity unless there is something external making us play that way.
The entire culture of the team needs to shift.

Start the rebuild, play the kids.
Hah. The club was ruined before ASADA. I thought ASADA might have kicked us back in line.

For every other completed game, teams covered 250-300km
GWS covered 240km
Essendon covered 140km

I hope that was an issue with the GPS data because that is mind-boggling if true

Yeah I saw the mid 3rd quarter numbers & thought that cant be right, but here we are.

Clearly not prepared for r1, hence Heppells 'patience' comments, he knew what was coming.

Honestly i miss our old blokes, howlett, hocking, jobe watson, hibbered, yea these guys were plodders but at least they would go in hard and never give up.
Can sort of include Baguley in that list, all those blokes did it hard to make it in the AFL and it showed.

Zaharakis out
Parish in
I was unhappy with Zaharakis being used at centre bounces but he was still one of our better players not that it’s saying much.

I'm pretty much a glass is half full sort of guy and try and look for positives................ nup....... can't find any, we were insipid today, if i performed like that at work I'd probably get the arse..

Nick Riewoldt on Foxtel ascribed our performance to structural issues (coaching plan) and lack of effort (players/conditioning).

Makes me wonder what have they been doing for six months.

I know some people pick on the skill level shown in the AFLW but the girls never seem to stop chasing and tackling with few coast to coast goals but at times this side plays a local level standard of footy.

A disappointing result - Poor ball handling and ineffective disposal were an issue BUT the biggest issue was the forwards REFUSING to lead up at the ball carrier - Inside 50's were 55 to 52 so their were chances for more scoreboard pressure - Expect to win next week by 60+ points.

I just don't understand why the players look so low on intensity? even in the first quarter we were literally just standing there/jogging as the giants players would run past. It was bizzare. Do we not train in tackling and pressure?

Shiel looks so unbelievably disappointed.

Poor bloke doesn’t deserve that.

Us, as supporters, don’t deserve that.

The rules changed, the personnel changed and the coaches changed.
Rules shouldn’t effect our ability to play fast footy.

Personnel isn’t that different.

Sack Rutten.

When you play against yourself for pre-season, you look a million bucks. Remember when you read Stringer kicked 7 in a practice match? It was against Hurley, Hooker, Brown, et al

Contested possession: 157-118

That's just unacceptable.

Myers, Brown and Baguley shouldn't play unless we're stacked with injuries.
Guelfi needs to go back to the VFL and develop his game there.

Merrett, Zaharakis and Hurley need to be sat down and told some home truths. No where near good enough from them.

Coaches need to be held accountable too. To let us start like this after last year is not acceptable. It wasn't unexpected because everyone who is objective could see how alarming our form was during the JLT.

Less ball. Less tackles and more turnovers. Was awful.
On Merrett. I was very unhappy with him today.
But then I read something earlier in the thread about a heart condition?
Should he have even been on the park?
Looked cooked from the 1st qtr. Seemed to be pretending to guard space and let his opponent free.

To be fair mate something was wrong with this club way before the drug saga.
