I don’t see the point in sending Battle forward when he likes won’t be selected in front of Membrey, Bruce, or King as a forward, long term. Keep him in defence to keep gaining experience, since Brown is closing out his career and Carlisle is up in the air at this point.

With respect to 3 tall forwards, the concern is mostly surrounding their lack of mobility, and inability to apply pressure or contest when the ball hits the deck. That wouldn’t be a major issue (if at all) since Bruce is somewhat above average for a KPF in those categories, Membrey certainly is, King too, and then Marshall is reasonably good (if we bring in another ruckman and sit him forward more often). People are acting as if we’d have three Koschitzke’s circa 2011

Not wanting to agitate things but in simple terms this Sunday .

So we ruck Marshall he gets tired comes off the ground

Bruce goes into the ruck .

Membrey is the only forward that can take a contested mark at 188 cm, we got slaughtered by Suns tall
backs ..in marking contests .
Hurley & Francis dominated when we bombed in to forward line.
We allowed Ryan , Pierce & Hambling to mark the ball a ridiculous number of times on weekend .

Josh Battle was recruited as a forward , has been a forward all his football career and a bloody good one.
What are Josh’s strengths mobile , good mark , great at agility, very accurate kick for goal even from 50 metres.
Completely different scenario when Max plays but it won’t be a lot of games , just needs a taste this year
for mine.

Great to win 2 games , but did we kick 100 points not even close .

Stkilda Game Plan = Insanity

“ Keep doing the same thing over & over again we get beat “

I suspect once we get some game time into Jono Marsh, he's a good chance to come in and either play as another key forward (depending on how Paddy pulls up), or take Battle's spot down back allowing Battle to play foward.

A lot of 'if's' though.

I didn’t suggest that at all. He wasn’t getting a game because his pre season form was ordinary at best. Kent was a traded player playing better so was always in front him. And it’s not like he kicked the door down last week in his first real seconds game.

Kent looked the same as he does known the Intraclub, Young was equal to Parker in his pressure acts. He was a real presence and had the defenders looking for him. I thought he might play ahead of Long on his preseason form.

You saw one preseason game unless you watched others. I saw that game and thought he was ordinary and was apparently ordinary in others as well thus didn’t deserve to play

Well I reckon if they thought he could they would do it. I don’t think our coaches plan to play a lesser side

I don't think they plan it but I also don't think Richo has ever been a very creative type. He seems to be more a pigeon hole type coach. More moves have been made this year than at any other in Richo's tenure. That suggests to me that the assistants might be moving players around. Trying Acres inside when we are crying out for a big bodied inside mid seems logical. Worth a go for more than a few minutes.

Funny enough, I was talking Battle up after his All Star game and the knock on him was he supposedly had poor agility. In that game a twisted and turned like snake and was doing snaps over his shoulder etc. He was obviously the best taller forward in either team that day. Testing obviously does not tell the whole story.

You do realise they have a midfield coach. I reckon he wants the best players in there. Just by the way acres may not be fit enough to do that role yet due to missing a lot of training. Also they obviously think dunstan will do a better job. Not saying it was you but after round one plenty said gresh should go forward again. He isn’t a true mid. Luckily our coaches don’t do things after one ordinary week

Marsh seems to be a middle sized player rather than a KP even though he's a good size. Collingwood mates reckon he's like a third tall with good intercept skills. They reckon he could go into the midfield longer term though.

I don't think we will change the backline. They played very well last week. Our main issue last week, once we got going, was clearances and finishing. Expect Steven back if fit but I doubt any other changes. Out maybe Kent, Clark or Sinclair.

OUT:
Acres:
Looks under done and had a very poor game.
Sinclair: Another poor performer. Will more than likely go back to the VFL and perform strongly, just needs a spell.
Kent: Has been rusty in the first few games, but did not lay one single tackle against Freo. Needs to work on pressure, execution and marking.
Dunstan: is winning some contested ball, but isn't in our top 5 best performing mids. Needs a tank as we can't afford to have him playing under 70% TOG.

IN:
Steven:
Replaces Acres. No brainer. Will add more polish, and help address us the huge centre clearance deficit. But also having him resting on the half forward line is a huge asset, and makes us much more dangerous.
Hind: Replaces Sinclair. Will go to HBF, and push Geary to tag in the midfield. Is going to add more speed and silk into the team.
Long: replaces Kent. If we can add his pressure, and he can curb his brain fades, we will be better off until Kent captures some form.
Armitage: Replaces Dunstan. Adds experience, can be a bull in the middle, but we can certainly rest him forward, as he applies great pressure and has been known to impact the scoreboard.

B: Wilkie, Brown, Webster
HB: Savage, Battle, Newnes
C: Billings, Ross, Geary
HF: Long, Membrey, Gresham
F: Parker, Bruce, Lonie
R: Marshall, Steele, Steven
I: McKenzie, Armitage, Hind, Clark
Dave's not here man!

In about three months when we are sitting at around 4-13 we’ll see more dare from the selection committee & the magnets on match day will start to be moved around. Until then it’ll be much the same with Acres rotting in a forward pocket / rucking against blokes that are +20kgs & +20cms. For the last 6 weeks of the season Acres to be moved into the middle & average 30. It will be interesting to see if there’s any chemistry between goats & horses, it could be a match made in saintly heaven.

He was pretty good against Williamstown.

If we played one tall or three talls nothing would change if we kick it to the opposition. If you have 3 talls they still all go up the ground No one stays back at our club or any club unless you are watching footy from years ago. It’s up to players to wait for talls to get back or if they can’t they need to be smarter with their ball use

No Horse, yuck, I had enough of 6 goal games under Ross. Get a young coach, has Clarko got anyone in training?

Yes after the afl season started. Kent was ahead of him by then and by a margin.

You had me until you said Kent was ahead of him. I think Kent got the nod being our only available senior acquisition. He looked pretty average to me.

McVoy is in form and is just as handy around the ground. You back Roma in??

Hawks played McEvoy and Ceglar last week. So the problem won't be McEvoy v Marshall it will be Acres v Ceglar.

Perhaps we need to hope that Roughie is fit!!

Who knows, depending upon what he shows, if you were being really creative you could even play him as a De Goey type forward.

Yeah, would like to see someone with a bit of size and pace in the midfield.

Again you saw one game. In that one game I thought he was better but there were others and he was better apparently

The only thing he did well was look like a Tim Membrey impersonator, his blue boots were the best thing about him that day. So far he's been a major disappointment. I have Dees mates who used to talk about him like we did about Freezer. He was always going to get on the park and be a gun but usually broke down at inopportune moments.

I think seek man likes horse’s batting average. You can back him in for about 15 wins a year, whereas our current coach is batting at around 7.

Over 8 years horse has made 2 GF’s & won 1 flag. Wins 66% of his matches which is only bettered by Chris Scott amongst current coaches.

I reckon the Swines list is well over cooked. Come home horse.

But then Gresh spent the majority of time forward this game? Why do they do this?
