Hawks like us this year.. play in patches.. they start and end the game with gusto.. Clarko definitely coaching to stop leaking and run.

If we’re switched on we have a really good shot... surprised the odds are such in the hawks favour.

half their defense is missing too. this is one such game where we should expect to win. 'we're young an rebuilding' isn't gonna fly next week...

I reckon 'expect to win' is a bit over the top...we've just won our first game of the year. But we're a decent shot.

Hawthorn struggling with injuries though so this is as good a chance as any to knock them off...although playing in Tas is in their favour.

We'll have to see if they get anyone back this week, but they could be missing Frawley, Stratton, Birchall, Mitchell, Shiels and Burgoyne.
The match report on the AFL website doesn't say anything about McEvoy being injured.

This s going to be a serious match committee conundrum. If Levi goes out Harry is our back up ruck. Big H spent most of the 3rd qtr on the pine gassed.
Levi allows H to roam and be a consistently offensive weapon.
I also think pending fitness Charlie plays.
I also think playing them all risks us going in to tall
I personally don't want to see the 4 talls again...also factor in JSOS as well who spends time forward.
Apart from the obvious negatives it comes with, i reckon it confuses our forwards and mids, as suddenly it's not so obvious which tall target should be where and who the mids should kick too.

Should Charlie be an automatic in? Has been poor and struggling with his knee all season. Casboult has played better than him personally, and also allows Harry to spend more time forward and less time rucking and he's currently dominating inside F50. Without Cas, Harry is the sole backup ruck and it makes him less effective up forward as he's not there as much and he's gassed.

On current form, i want Big H in the F50 as much as possible...he destroyed the Dogs and Hawks also lacking a big defender with Frawley injured.

I'm actually really liking the fact we are using 3 players in the ruck, we can work over the opposition ruckmen like we did English. A big weakness in the opening month could suddenly become a big strength which helps our midfield.

If we can knock off the hawks this week, we’ll all be able to hear the “click”. It might still be a bit early for it all to come together consistently but we’ve waited patiently for so long we can be forgiven for allowing hope to take hold. I’m just looking forward to the time when we go from approaching each weekend expecting to lose, to anticipating a win.

didn't realise gibbons had such an aerobic capabity. on that basis he's taken setterfields place in the midfield until further notice.

setterfield has shown that he can play but he can't cover the ground like that yet. he'll need another preseason.

Was a big part of our win and better ball movement compared to the GC game.

He can run faster and has better endurance than Setters right now, was really good linking up from half back to half forward and in the contest he was tenacious and tackling hard. Gave our midfield another contributor which we were desperate for and appears to compliment our other mids well. Based on one game obviously so we'll see how it pans out.

CAS stays in imo, we are not too tall if we can win contests and nullify their spread like we did to the bulldogs. H needs to stay forward. Has Charlie ever had a successful run in the midfield? Lots of talk about it but I have not seen it before.

I think its a bit of wishful thinking on some posters part.

Yeah he's got good aerobic capacity, but i don't think he's quite quick enough, particularly with changing direction, in the clinches of midfield contests.
The few times i have seen him up in the contest, he looks a bit lost and i recall a few times him getting caught holding the ball.

I think playing Casboult, Harry, Charlie, Gov and JSOS would not end well, even though each of them individually are good enough to be in our best 22 right now.

Structure and balance does matter.

Kennedy played most of his gws games at half forward. Is not 'one dimensional'. Is a bit one paced but has a huge vertical leap. I'm not convinced we cant play both so and Kennedy in the same forward line. Have to think its a fitness thing.

IMO a fit Kennedy is best 22. Adds so much. He is a bigger body, wins contested ball and will help Cripps and our outside players immensely.

Getting him right is obviously a priority but can’t wait until he’s back. Having Cripps Kennedy Jack & Setterfield all fit makes us a gun big bodied contested team with so many options and make others better

It is absolutely game on next week.

13th vs 15th with not much percentage difference.

We are just hitting peak fitness, cruised to a big win with no injury concerns. They have senior players missing, carrying niggles and generally not at their best.

Our bottom 6 is better than theirs. Our big forwards can trouble their mobile, zoning defenders. Our youngsters have more talent and are emerging faster than their young players. They have also faded and struggles both late in quarters and games, which won’t trouble us.

They have the best coach in the game, a bloody good structure that requires teams to hold their nerve and they punish teams who don’t. They have experienced, veteran players around the ground who can get the job done. They also have a decent home ground advantage and we are travelling for the 5th straight week. We are due for a stinker imo.

Still, it feels very winnable to me. Don’t say that often, I must admit...

Challenge accepted!

Staggering that posters are prepared to play Curnow in the reserves just to keep Casboult in the seniors.
Might be time to take a deep breath ...

Not staggering at all when you look at the facts.
  • 4 talls plus JSOS unlikely to be an effective structure
  • Casboult has been playing better than Curnow
  • Casboult in the team allows for Harry to stay inside F50 more where he's in hot form and hitting the scoreboard
  • Curnow has been battling form and knee issues all year
    • JLT games - Absolutely shocking
    • Rd 1 vs Richmond - Another stinker...almost every time we kicked to him it resulted in a turnover
    • Rd 2 vs Port - Injured in 1st quarter with knee issue
    • Rd 4 vs GC - Basically invisible, didn't really contribute anything positive to the team
Casboult staying in and Charlie resting his knee or playing VFL to gain some touch absolutely has merit.

I can't think of any reason to swap Casboult for Curnow other than picking the team based on reputation instead of current output.
