Well it’s getting close for those who can’t wait to vote. From Monday (29/4/19) the Pre-Polling venues will be open for business and, if the recent past is any indication, around a third of the votes will be cast in this way. I think that all voters should wait until the day of the election to cast their vote. A small % will have a valid reason for voting early however the vast majority of early voters just vote because they can and that’s not a good enough excuse.

Why should you wait?

1. Not all initiatives (policies) have been addressed.
2. Not all howlers have occurred.
3. Make it a family affair (if you can) and vote together. Saves on petrol. If you walk to the voting booth you save on petrol and get some exercise.
4. The democracy snag can only be savoured after you’ve cast your vote on Election Day. Beware of imitations.

I’ve tried to engender some enthusiasm for the electoral process over a couple of weeks and I’m prepared to accept that I’ve missed the mark. Only 3 people have responded to the poll (2 in reality). There have been contributions from other posters but let’s face it I’m in a room by myself and I’m talking to myself. I need to get out of the house.

Robbo’s working on the Federal Election from Monday. Pre-Polls. Supporting the democratic process (and getting a little pocket money as well).

Call me idealistic but I think most of the decisions around policy need to be underpinned by the practice of social justice.
Sadly that has not been the case in recent times. Nor in most of human history. Neither here nor around the globe. As long as thinly disguised greed is the underpinning factor of all actions its a waste of time worrying about it.
Labor tries but can never get the numbers to transform things enough and far too many peoples innate selfishness really doesnt want them to succeed too much.
Liberals are a misuse of the word. Arch conservative take from the poor to give to the rich is their be all and end all. But they spend all their energy trying to pretend otherwise. And all too often folks get fooled.
Nationals is not something helpful to anybody that doesn't vote for them if their leaders in the last 25 years are anything to judge by. Lets face it they get to run a country at times by joining with a party they detest deep down.
The greens have no idea at all what they stand for.
The rest have even less. Either fascists or racists or bigots or stupid in various combinations.

Hope this helps.

Juice media....absolutely the best!

The Parliament has a committee system that is just a waste of money. They look into this. They look into that. And then they split on party lines. Waste of ****ing time. A court set up by the Parliament which is independent would soon stop the dodgy deals.

That ad was a pisser!

This is the bit. Despite what they learn by commitee they split with no moral compass allowed. Thats the problem with party politics. And yet still independents are worse.

And here are some of the stories concerning hopefuls who wish to be Parliamentarians.o_O:rolleyes::drunk::poo:

‘A veteran who assaulted a police officer and choked an RSPCA inspector in 2015 is the lead Senate candidate for Fraser Anning's Conservative National Party in the ACT.’

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/st...andidates-criminal-history-revealed/?cs=14329

‘One of Pauline Hanson's former senators has been referred to police over his nomination to contest the coming federal election after the Australian Electoral Commission questioned his declaration that he was fit to stand for Parliament again.’

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/st...e-over-false-declaration-for-senate/?cs=14350

And the slightly silly candidates Blue and Blue

‘Nineteen candidates will contest the ACT's lower house seats at the upcoming federal election, with the new seat of Bean attracting the highest number of candidates.’

https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/6088498/barrels-and-blindfolds-candidates-declared/?cs=14350

And finally. If I’m reading the economic forecasts properly then it’s time to rethink some of the general rules. 25 years of continuous growth doesn’t apply across the board. A significant amount of people have been living in a recession for a number of years thanks to this Government’s policies towards wage growth.

The latest inflation figure is 0.0%. I think this means the current rate of inflation is 1.3%. Inflation is too low but this Government is still relying on the Reserve Bank to do something. Another interest rate means squat. The Banks won’t pass it on in full because that’s what the Banks have done for yonks.

Change the industrial rules. There’s no industrial democracy in Australia.

‘The Reserve Bank is under pressure to deliver an interest rate cut 11 days out from the federal election after new figures revealed inflation effectively dead across the country in a sign the national economy is weakening.’

I won’t pretend to be too interested nor knowledgeable in politics but thought to comment on your thread.

I’m pretty disenchanted with the main parties and their leaders. But if recent history is anything to go by there could be a mid term leadership change so always a glimmer of hope we may get a decent leader at some point...But we have Crippa at Carlton and that’s of higher importance anyway!

Generally I’m left leaning and like the idea of government focussing spending for the benefit of all - infrastructure, health, education, community services. Not such a priority for me in having generous taxation rates for middle/higher income earners, small business assistance, negative gearing for investors, etc....

It’s my son’s birthday on Election Day this year with a party to organise and hold on the day accordingly. No doubt that will be my main focus but hopefully I’ll score a snag at the polling booth. Also, I must admit to enjoying shunning all the party representatives as they try to thrust their how to vote forms at me upon entry.:D

Maybe you should do research about having a party on Election Day. Recommend David Williamson’s Don’s Party. It based on the election 50 years ago but it’s a party and uncontrollable things happen.;)

Election day or not if my son’s 11 y o b’day party turns out like that then I will need to seriously question my parenting skills....

Not singling out the libs by any means, just another instance of preference dealing that speaks of hypocrisy

https://www.theguardian.com/austral...change-election-preferences-with-clive-palmer
He’s only getting back into politics because of the financial advantages. I think of him as an inside trader. Be careful who you swap preferences with as while this may be popular in Qld I’m not betting Victoria will be happy (and the Libs have vulnerable seats in Victoria).

This is typical of the Tories. This is as much about wrecking the next Parliament as it is about saving seats.

The problem with removing negative gearing is housing prices will drop, effecting valuation's of low income earners mortgages even putting some into negative equity.
Combined with Banks tightening their current lending criteria spells doom for many that put their hopes in Labor.
Second issue is in the last days of the previous Labor government Bill Shorten was the person who added weekend Penalty rates to the review that removed them. Knowing full well the Liberals would not remove that.
Personally I am very tired of Liberal Labor Greens whatever. I just want a Government that Governs to represent ALL Australians Equally regardless of race gender or any other identifying trait.

WE ARE ALL People from many ethnic groups, creeds why can't we be united instead of fragmented into groups based on social standing?

Its hard to believe Hewson was once one of them. And nice to see such a reasoned article that states thing as they are withouut flogging an agenda. Unlike that fool Latham.

And Vanstone.

The Liberals have changed from the party led by Hewson and Fraser.

Of course the negative from this is that Labor has jumped into that space.

Morrison is doing the opposite of what Rudd did when he knifed Julia to 'mimimise the damage'
Ole beam me up scotty is like a madman with an axe. Which to be fair shouldnt be a surprise as it is basically how he approached all his portfolios.
