“Getting a little worked up over a February puff piece done by channel 9.”
What?.. the puffing up of Sloane are words coming straight from the mouth of one of the club’s assistant coaches whilst he is being interviewed.
Channel 9 are just reporting it.
And anyone thats taken any notice of this club in the last 5 years knows they cannot be trusted to do the right thing at the selection table and cant let go of some faded dream of 2017 form and performance..
“I am fine giving Sloane 3-4 games of AFL.”
why?… so we can waste 3-4 games that we could give to a younger player thats actually going to be here for our next finals campaign?
The bloke was cooked last year before he did his knee.
Does anyone actually think that, after spending a year out if the game due to a knee injury, a cooked 32 year old bloke is going to all of a sudden find the form he had 6 years ago?
he’s been a shell of his former self since 2017.. we’ve spent $800k or more a season for 5 bloody years on a bloke that has either been injured or who’s output has been half of what it was prior to 2017.
Why would you want to see anymore of that?
He wants to come back.. he does it by first proving he has something left to offer in full match conditions in the SANFL..
Not some dicky trial games that arent for real points and certainly not by being granted a gold pass to rounds 1 to 4..
He won't have to perform in the trial games as they'll excuse his output anyway. And he won't get 3-4 games, he's locked in all season. His Thommo gold watch year is 2024 if he manages to force the club's hand into an extension. But I'm starting to have faith that they won't extend uneccessary seniors after Talia and Lynch. Sloane will be a slightly different test though.
