Our midfield is our strongest line.. šŸ˜‚ we are doomed if you think that
The rising fast was about his passing the large amount of dross we have for midfield options after the first four proven talents (Ldu/Sheez/Warlord/Powell) , experienced heads Parker and Jy, and the couple of other unproven kids (Kerch/FOS).

Yes, no other reason. He's arguably a better mid than everyone on that list, barring LDU, but his versatility will help us extract more from the rest of the list.
Yes, why use a scalpel when a sledge will do the job at the coal face.

What's you position on cloning?

People seem to forget that Comben has an atrocious injury record. He might have to play down back just so he can play football. Similar to what happened with Tarrant. Then Tarrant turned into an excellent defender.

When you're a forward the defenders crash into you. Even more so when you're a North forward because our I50's consist of bombing it long and sitting it on your head. That's a recipe for disaster when it comes to an injury prone player like Comben. Now as a defender, Comben can do the crashing. When you're coming in 3rd man it's a lot easier to see what's in front of you and you can prepare for it.

If it comes down to a defender comben or an injured comben, i'll take the former.

What do people think is the pecking order of the following for midfield time at this point in the pre season?

Colby
LDU
Jy
Parker
Harry
Wardlaw
Will Phillips
Powell
Urquhart
Think its hard to think of a pecking order except in a rotational sense.

ie. Parker, Jy or Phillips aren't in our best 3 midfielders, but one of those blokes will be in the vast majority of rotations I reckon.

Round one, first rotation, against Bont, Libba and Treloar, I'd probably roll out LDU, Sheezel and Parker.

Not because Parker has a better ceiling than Wardlaw, but just because he's a better midfield general at this stage, and lordy our midfield needs organisation.

I'd follow it up with a second rotation with LDU, Powell and Wardlaw.

Tho I'd love to see WiPhi make it, unless there's an injury or a need to tag someone, I don't know how he fits into the seniors with those five ahead of him, when he doesn't have either positional versatility or an athletic point of difference.

I'd love for him to become the next Lachie Neale but its such a big jump from where he's been at.

Wouldn't be surprised if Jy attends less than a quarter of centre bounces this year. The flank is probably his home for the near future, I reckon.

Urquhart has the prospect of physical bigness on his side which bodes well for him in that mix.

The level of player bashing of other players in Player’s Threads that runs into pages that this forum stoops too is embarrassing. I think we should save that for opposition club and players. Let other clubs eat their own.

I'm not saying he's had it easy. Maybe he's faster than I'm giving him credit for. I'm just saying it's surprising that a bloke with no standout strength apart from his brain has kicked as many goals as he has. You think of other forwards, traits come to mind. Think of Larkey, and it's just accuracy really
Thinking back to the Carlton good friday games over the past couple of years (just because of how these matches are somehow stuck in my mind), when he was under pressure from a defender, Curnow would lurch and fall on queue to gain a free kick. Sometimes, the defensive contact was nearly zero. Carlton defenders were seemingly allowed to tackle Larkey with impunity as North were bringing the ball into the forward line.

Perhaps he complains too much to umpires and they have taken a dislike to him - I don't know, but if the umpires were more neutral or were simply better at their jobs I'm sure Larkey would be capable of being the league's leading goal kicker.

Early track report

Kerch, Simpkin, Stephens all walking laps no boots on. Kerch bare foot doubt he does anything for the day.

Corr, Tucker, fisher, goater, Payne and Daniel all rehab group.

Wardlaw, Parker, LDU, Curtis and Duurs all doing own running away from group.

His gesticulating has tilted the perception against himself regarding the Umpires

If he cuts that out and goes the ball it will come

I think Hawkins suffered the same fate early in his career
