I guess we will get a better read throughout the year, but perhaps the focus now should be the next layer of needs, draft or trade

Another mid/forward and forward, with speed and agility, given where the likes of Williams and Fantasia are at in the age and injury profile, Durdin with injury prone concerns
Tyson Gresham and Mingara Clark?

But Kemp didn’t really address a need as much getting a small forward did. Yes best available and all that but once Young and Serong were gone he could’ve pivoted to drafting for a need, that is a small forward like Pickett or Weightman.

Going into 2019 our small forward line up was something like Fasolo, Pickett, Lebois, and a young Owies, with Gibbons being played out of a position. Probably the worst assembly of small forwards the competition has ever seen.
What year was it sos refused to bring Dan Butler in?

Unless Tyson grows or he develops wizard Watson traits, not sure he makes it

Clark and Ison will be very handy additions
Tyson Gresham has done a bit so far. Played 15 games as a bottom ager last year (8 goals) which indicates the Knights think highly of him. He has made the Vic Metro Sumnmer hub squad this year which is a precursor to the teal cup squad.

He is short but really strong looking and very thick in the legs. Looks really powerful. Obviously there is a bit of ability in the family so it might pay not to write him off too early

Not writing him off, but not many players at 170-175 cm make it at the next level

It will be an interesting watch

This one is for the draft strategists out there.

Assuming Cody Walker attracts a bid around pick 8 in next years draft (purely hypothetical)

Why wouldn’t trading our 2026 1st round pick in to this years draft to bring in more top end talent and then going in to a points deficit for the 2027 draft be a better strategy, than just waiting for the 2026 draft to come around and having the pick absorbed?

Cody would have to lose a leg to be bid on as low as 8. Top 3 locked. With Richmond odds on to have pick 1, and his NGA link, don’t be surprised if the bid at the top end and make up pay through the nose. With the new points system and only 10% discount it may impact our 2027 first without playing ducks and drakes with picks.

It's because at this stage it's likely (or at least very possible) that Cody goes significantly higher than #8.
Trading out 26 1st would significantly limit our flexibility in how we would be able to manage to match a bid.

Ok, same question applies, use pick 3 as an example.

Why not use the pick this year and pay the price with our 2026 picks and 2027 1st rounder?

Use our 2026 pick to bring in a player or quality kid this year.

As above. Use pick 3 as an example.

Why does it limit anything? Use the picks you have and any deficit we can use our 2027 1st rounder.

Because there's not enough points to cover it, even with the deficit.
Have you seen the new DVI?

I have had a look now, it will be interesting, at a quick glance we will need 2 first round picks, which as far as i know you can use/trade two years in advance.

Perhaps trading out the F1 would be too risky but i still see merit in trading a pick from next year to this year to get some more quality in.

If any teams have more than 1 highly rated talent in any year, it will be interesting to see if they let one slide, go in to deficit or trade big to get the picks.

I also think that factoring in a bid at 3 is a stretch, going off history, bids dont come that high, but could be close.

I think it's more hope for the best (sliding) prepare for the worst (#1).
You don't want to leave yourself with only bad options.

Especially, there would have to be a reasonable chance that the Tassie picks for 2027 would be announced prior which would further limit the amount of deficit points available.

If anything looking at the new points we would struggle to match at the moment. We should think about trying to bank some more points this off-season

Isn't the opportunity to trade 2 years in advance likely coming this year?

Would that make any difference?

Editv- noticed that this has been dealt with.
