They just don't see eye to eye. This has been bubbling along for nearly 12 months. Common knowledge within the club. Confirmed by many people
Cant say I blame Walsh on this - our contested game style (and Dees) is outdated and doesnt work against the running teams.

if we can see it, the media people see it, players see it but Voss struggles to see it..🤦‍♂️

Voss AND his coaching team presumably!

Previous #1 picks have absolutely no bearing on our future.

Yes, a wooden spoon being part of the solution is a hard sell, but I've thought of an even better idea!

Don't trade Walsh this year.

Ship him off as a free agent next year so we get band 1 compo...

Finish last = pick #1,
band 1 compo = pick #2 PM

Cody Walker after we get the 2 best players in next year's draft!

I know it sounds ridiculous, but have you thought about the even more ridiculous alternative?

Floundering in the middle of the table trying to scrape into finals only to get booted out for the next couple years then all our best players retire/get too old and we likely end up in the bottom 4 for the next 5-6 years again because their trade value will plummet by that stage...

I agree, this board sucks... nothing but a pack of money hungry, virtue signaling vultures that have no clue what this club's proud history stands for.

But I assure you, it's not a strategy to embrace failure, rather think of it as knocking down an old house to build a new one. When the wrecking ball hits, it looks like a disaster, but once the new foundation is laid, we will be able to build a proper premiership winning team because too many of these blokes haven't got it in them!

losing TDK and Harry this year wouldn’t be enough to send us to the bottom, even if that’s what we wanted and then let Walsh walk for another speculative pick next year, then you might get there in 2027.

So I’m wondering, when will be challenging under this plan? It certainly won’t be whilst Cripps, Weitering or Charlie would be there.

Secondly, why would Butters or Bailey leave their strong clubs and go to a club at the bottom? How many free agents leave to go to a team not contending?

We have strong group of quality experienced players and it looks like we will lose one, which will get us currently a top 6 pick.

Include Smith, top 6 pick this year and a top 6 pick next year to add to our group and that’s before you draft anyone else or add any free agents.

Where have I seen this movie before?
I sort of feel sorry for our players from the rebuild years onwards - they're now onto their 3rd coach and lets face it none of them have been ground breaking.

From what i can make of it...

Bolton - tried to implement the short kick pass game style that he became familiar with at the hawks. Didnt really work with us like it did with the hawks who were packed with highly skilled players.

Teague - attack at all cost style...bomb the ball long into f50/ Leaked too many goals the other way.

Voss - brutal contest to contest and also bomb it long into f50. Doesn't seem to work against the running style that tiggies introduced and most teams have embraced and it seems the filth have improved some what (?).

Just like we are having debates/arguments on BF about which is the better game style the players also have varying opinions - naturally.

One uniting factor that should come into play is the lure of a flag but after 3 or so years it seems some of our players are not buying what Voss is trying to sell them.

Smith and Reville would be playing senior football for the current champs who are sitting on top of the ladder they hold some currency i would have Reville starting for you next week if he was on your list.
Don't sleep on Smith ill try to find the article Gawn pumps him up the Kids is good and young has had a few years in the system and is finally physically ready.
We have picked up Wilmot Loman Morris and Starc with picks around what you would get with our first this year.
There are always a few that slip threw just need the scouts to identify the talent.
Cap space released to make a run at a free agent 26 trade FA period.
Yes Harry would make us flag favs untill the end of this decade.
But it would no doubt make the blues stronger long term.... in my opinion of course.
Smith has shown glimpses of talent as a fwd/ruck, is 22yrs old played 4 games to date, over 50 reserve games, has been developing his game & body in 4 years since being drafted at #48 2020 draft, certainly certainly has the potential to be a future player at AFL level…
His in contract until 2026, my guess is he would get you around a pick 30/40 draft pick atm on the small sample of production so far, that will change on what he accomplishes this season…

Reville 24yrs who did show something in his 16 games, has done a couple of ACL’s so I’m not sure I’d be going down that path, as far as a draft value he’d be a 4th round draft pick at best…

Interesting I was told the Walsh/Voss thing by a friend who is part of the business group that sponsors players. I dismissed it as gossip even though this person has a long history with the Club.

Other points the person has made over the last 3 months:

1. the players have zero respect for Brad Lloyd. Weitering in particular thinks he shows no leadership and questions what he actually does
2. big disconnect between Voss and Hanson
3. Coaches and Austin do not get on. Passing on Houston really annoyed Voss
4. Charlie, McGovern and Saad just do their own thing and don't take direction from coaches / set training standards
5. Widely known TDK is leaving for the cash. Is loved by the playing group but they acknowledge it is life changing money and no one begrudges him doing so

I take it all with a grain of salt. Been around sporting clubs in other codes enough to know opinions are like mouths, everyone has one. Usually lots of noise and little substance

Agree with a bit of this, but not all.

The players are playing for him, as much as we don't like it the effort is there. We just arent good enough with ball in hand.
1st in overall tackle numbers
2nd for tackles inside 50
6th for 1%ers
1st in contested possesions
3rd for intercepts

Look at how they act on the field, in club vidoes (and i know this isnt everything) but it does seem like a pretty united group.

I'd be surprised if there was real disunity within the playing group and/or against Voss.

Did you miss where that was a complete beat up?
No.

Though generally, you pay extra for a FA compared to a player you trade for. A 500k player might cost 650k to get across as a FA. Depending on how many suitors they have.

And if the player doesn't have any other suitors, are they actually an upgrade on what we've already got?

My comment wasn’t actually about this, more about when Voss time at Brisbane was plagued by player departures, we are starring down the barrel of Kennedy, TDK, Walsh across three seasons if things go as some are saying.

This is not a good sign.

His tenure is also going like his time at Brisbane, started positive before things started to unravel.

Interesting. TDK on with Dwayne Russell just now.
Sounded like he is happy playing with his mates and not concerned about money.
Am I Pollyanna-ing here? Anyone else hear it?

Walshy should not be trade bait, but if the mix is not working, he is the one who is uncontracted in the foreseeable future with trade collateral. It certainly is a watch this space. I have been told by multiple connected types that “if Voss is coaching next year, Walsh won’t be here”.
I know what I'd say to that if I was the Footy Manager or CEO and that's clean out your locker at years end and we will find you another coach to go and knife or Club to blackmail. The CFC will be around long after S Walsh is retired and I am sick to death of these prima donnas holding the club to ransom, don't care who they are or how talented they might be, been happening at our club for decades. Nuffs enuff and perhaps someone should remind him that under M Voss, he was voted player of the finals series in 2023.

Said all the right things (ie gave away nothing) but I didn't get the feeling money meant nothing to him. In fact if anything, I got the opposite. He said that Walsh, Cripps, Charlie, Weiters had all been through it, BUT everyone's different.
To me, that meant they weren't offered the crazy money he's being offered so he needs to think very carefully.

I wonder if this is about Walsh having a much higher drive and standards than many of his teammates?

The only one I felt bad for was Bolton, even if in the end he wasn't up to it.
He had the unenviable task of taking over a poor side that had its list scrapped for parts (picks & peripheral players) & he was given a mandate to develop the kids.
He was then turfed because we weren't winning enough.

There have been rumours of players quitting on each of those coaches named & yet there are still question marks alongside the application of some of our players. It shouldn't be a matter of buying in (which is a non-negotiable), being accused of dogging it should be enough motivation for anyone.

Voss' game style is pretty much the opposite of what Walsh needs to thrive in. Teague suited Walsh much better with a much more spread attack and ball movement. He now has to work in congestion far more than he used to.
This doesn't really show up in the stats -
2021 was Walsh's best year pre Voss -
he averaged 11.4 contested possessions - he has since gone 11.4, 10.9, 11.0 & 10.8
He averaged 18.6 uncontested possessions - he has since gone 21.3, 18.1, 17.1 & 15.6
He averaged 337.1 metres gained -he has since gone 340.9, 347.1, 294.1 311.8
he averaged 4.5 tackles - he has since gone 3.3, 4.8, 6.8 and 5.2
He averaged 29.8 possessions, - he has since gone 32.1, 28.6, 28.4 & 26.8
He averaged 0.8 1%ers - he has since gone 0.6, 0.6, 0.7 & 0.2

Other than his 2025 form being down (likely a result of missing a lot of pre-season) there is no real evidence that he is performing worse under Voss or that he is playing a more inside style of game.
