Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

The JHF take is so funny, he’s not even on him at either stoppage. Hutch loses him at the first one (HEdwards dribble kick) and Hewett at the second.

But because they’ve been chirping they’re acting like JHF personally kicked those against Harley.

Too many footy shows, not enough people who watched the footy.
It's well known that when you lack quality clearance winning midfielders (mainly due to their age), you should sacrifice your best on to be defensive at all stoppages.

In all seriousness every team has at least one mid that is given free reign to do as they wish at clearances because they are the best option. Harley has that. I don't want him tagging another teams player. That's for lesser midfielders to do.

Sure, it's a bad look but Lyon's a clown if he thinks Harley should get a week for it, because then he should retroactively go back and campaign for Pendlebury getting a week for tripping Harley as well.

But we know they'd never bring up their golden boy.
Agree, that whole spiel about if Harley was with Geelong or Collingwood they'd step in, and show leadership in correcting him etc, is pure vomit-inducing bias towards Vic and their privileged premier teams. Curious to see how it all plays out, the ever-shifting Vic opinions on Harley, and also how Harley pans out for the remainder of the season, and if if there's a shift in Mini's handling of Harley.
You make some good points there.

HR is far from a champion at the moment though.
Yes, I should've said a champion in the making perhaps. We'll probably see a change in him after this coming preseason, but of course don't want him to lose his edge. Obviously we don't see as much champion type speccy play like we did last season because he now cops so much oppo attention; and he makes a lot more clangers now, kicking to opp/turnovers and kicking out of bounds because he just doesn't get as much time or clear space. It's not unusual to see him tackled by 2-3 players at once. Just has to work his way through it, get his fitness base up - once more another preseason.(and a signed contract extension might help settle things down)

The only way Geelong and Collingwood would 'step in' would be by influencing Vic media to think it's a 'good' thing(such as Naicos ducking/staging, Maynard being a total flog, Bailey 'Sniff' and others' off-field transgressions at Geelong, etc) he plays on the edge like this.

Instead, they take pot shots from the other side of the country because they're ****wits.

I think it’s unlikely Harley would carry on as much if he played in a top side. Or maybe even if Yeo played every game.

Does Jordan De Goey still play for the Pies? He's played with them for how many season now? It's 2025 and we are getting "new found maturity", he's 29.....

Yep, basically been given a free ride with the amount of his behaviour that's been excused over the years.

Did dickheads like Gary Lyon call for Scott Pendelbury to be suspended for tripping Harley last season? No they didn't.
Pendlebury only copped a fine as he is a protected specie. If Harley had copped a suspension he would have been able to overturn it in an appeal to the AFL or in a court of law based on the precedent set in only fining Pendelbury.
Anyone got the video of Pendles trip on Harley?

The worst thing that could of happened did, Yeo going down for the year with a serious injury.
He would have provided not only leadership and game day advice/influence but his on field protection as well.
Now I don't mean just coming to his aid and bashing other players but more reading Harley's attitude and emotions. Yeo was and to a degree probably still would be an emotional player himself. He could get to Harley before he goes too overboard and get him to focus more on the footy and game rather than the man and umps.

It's the whole roll on affect that we have suffered now for several years where a couple of key personnel go down and the responsibility rolls down to the next guys, sometimes they can handle it and more often than not for us they can't. We don't have another Yeo, besides Harley really, so we have nobody who can play his role at all.

Everyone on this forum was drinking excessively and eating kebabs off the street in freo because youd dropped it.

My arm was chopped.

Had a look, unfortunately Vic is the absolute home of whistle blower crusifiction so I should protect third parties.
Don't want to know who . Just a brief outline of what happened.

Pendles only got fined $1875 for tripping Harley.
Read as his First offence for the year. Thai was Harleys 3rd with the finger and elbow to the Blues player I think.

These offences fines just keep going ups I think Butters got into some decent amounts

No idea on time of game but it was just inside the centre square, left of screen. I remember it well.
Just before the 15 minute mark when Harley got pinged for HTB. He shrugged a tackle, Pendlebury tried to grab him but couldn't get him, kicked Harley's leg out from behind him as he was pulling away and caused him to fall onto his back.

Feels like all the overly critical outside commentary is starting to have a galvanising effect hopefully, just wish someone from the club would really go out to bat for him publicly the way say McRae has for Daicos, feel like it would go a long way.

100% but also hard to do when he is giving away so many unnecessary free kicks and your losing, it just doesn’t go down well in the media.

Nick Daicos tries the umpire the game as much as Harley and crickets.

Been thinking about it for a while, it just feels like all the noise in the media and how he's being umpired on field is a ploy to get him back to Victoria, harley is worth way more at a Vic club as he will put way more bums on seats than playing at Eagles.

This kid is used to dominating you add how unfairly he is treated on field by players and umpires and it's no surprise that he acts out the way he does, yes he could do better at holding his emotions but that's not the point, I've never seen a player scragged off the ball soo much and get nothing out of it.

The umpires need a please explain and I'm amazed that question hasn't come about yet.

If he does end up moving just watch how the media and umpires treat him.

This is a potentially once in a generation midfielder the incentive is there.

Butters has a really ugly head, I would want to trip him as well.

Relax action at best.

Fine him....then move on.
