Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

"Line him up Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera; it's $2 million for Harley Reid for two years and it's $1.4m for Wanganeen-Milera for two years. That’s what the supposition is.
If I've got them lined up on the wall, I'm taking Wanganeen-Milera 10 times out of 10 in front of Harley Reid."

This is a weird comparison IMO. If we had a time machine and NWM was in his second seson of AFL, I know who all of the footy world would take 10 times out of 10. I hope we've reached out to NWM and offer him Chad Warners package. Harley on $2M, NWM on $1.5+, Midfield sorted.

"There’s also an option for West Coast which is to say ‘hey we love you, we want you to be a part of this club, and this is what we can afford’.
Then Harley Reid makes the decision."

I think this is where the conversation is leading with West Coast and Harley, we can only hope we come to an agreement
Does.....does he think it's just a case of going to the shop, checking the price tag and putting them in the basket? He actually has to be willing to come here Bucks.

This is the guy that was coach of the team that traded in Mayne when they thought that they were getting Mundy, right?

Who's he mistaking NWM for?

NWM is a str but this is just more media sensationalism. Harley is a marquee mid that you build around. The while is a gun is very much one of those your bring in when you got a core group
Both stars but NWM is in his 4th year. The work Harley is doing in his 2nd year as an inside mid is next level, the bloke is in a 1 win for the season tens and getting tagged as a 20yo in back to back weeks…. See if Bucks thinks the same in 2 years time.

Headline on 360: (Wheatley) A bold, courageous move by the Hawthorn football club see's them land the last valuable piece that will surely propel them to a flag, the football world collectively stand in awe of the foresight and genius shown by the club.

Headline on 360: (Lying) Can the West Coast be saved from themselves before they make, what will undoubtedly be known for decade's as THE biggest blunder by an AFL club.
We talk to Greg Swan and ask should restrictions be laid on the Eagles to save them from themselves!

Can I shock you Bucks?

I’d also like NWM to play for the Eagles.

Now what?

If NWM wants to come for a 9 year 18 mill deal sign me the **** up

Lets do that instantly

One less reason for him to go back to Vic I guess? 🤷‍♂️ I feel like I saw something similar to this last year. Who knows, who cares. It's a Harley article so I thought I'd stick it here.
Unbelievable - I recall when news was news.

He indeed lives alone.

There's something very menacing about this. Next you're gonna tweet him advising him to get that mole on his lower-back checked out.

Interesting on the Yasmin front. Breakup timeline seems to correlate with his form line this season. Pre-season spent indulging the misso until she heads back east [underdone] then long distance relationship phase [uninspiring form] then breakup [angry grumpy pants Harls, but improving] now more focussed of field and suddenly ready to commit to the West [nature is healing our boy]. Bodes extremely well.

On the contract side of things I say just sign it and lets white knuckle this 11 year risk. If it was any other club doing it I'd think they are idiots but for us I can't really see any reason not to do it. So let's just do it, we need the lift and its only money.

I would say that with regard to this "line go up" view of the next 3 broadcast deals that I have concerns about the AFL's assumed exponential growth model. I think we are in a broadcast bubble and that the is definite potential for market corrections over the course of Harleys deal. 11 years is a long time in the world we live in. The AFL as a product overestimates its appeal and would be wise to keep in mind that the demographics who are passionate about AFL are in decline and the user base for streaming services could be all sorts of volatile as cost of living continues to be a worsening issue.

The club should be aware of this as well, the paying members are almost to the man loaded boomers and boomers outnumber gen x who outnumber millennials who outnumber etc etc. We are not breeding more readymade AFL fans and the largest segment of ticket holders are on the way out. Maybe thats glass half empty of me but I can as easily imagine the AFL being defunct in 25 years as I can imagine it being a 20 team comp with every player earning NBA money.

The AFL is a billion dollar a year not for profit, they’re not going under. And even if they do, all the more reason to put the chips in the middle now.

Who cares about a slow, long term view when the league isn’t even going to exist until the end of the current Grand Final MCG contract.

If the cap doesn’t lift a cent from 2027’s first year of Harley’s extension, it’s still a perfectly manageable percentage of the cap.
