Recap at a glance:
  • Harley Reid has signed a two-year extension, which keeps him at West Coast until at least the end of 2028.
  • He still has one season left on his rookie deal, the new extension kicks in for 2027.
  • Cal Twomey reports that the deal could reach up to $2m per year if Harley triggers all incentives (e.g. this is not a base $2m per year deal).
  • This is a straight two year extension, with no player option for a +9 or anything similar.
  • Get a big dog up ya, Victoria.

I would happily take the flat three year extension over the stupid 2+ 9 since all that's guaranteed is the two. I'm glad the club didn't roll over on this one. It also helped that other clubs apparently getting scared off over the asking price for Harley in both a trade AND contract.
What a ****ing disaster.

Great we might actually Iose him at free agency if the player option is off the table.

And you are now telling me in 2 year time we will have to be talking about wce working out a deal with Harley to extend again.

That's a ****ing disaster. This whole thing could have been put to bed now. its now going to be rolling on with will Harley extend or not until the end of time.

No player option + 2 years just send Harley back to vic. I'm not going to go through this lets negotiate with Harley management on an extension in 2 years time.

We are back to ****ing square one don pyke. Forget it just extend him for 1 year. There is no difference.

Bont style contract forever. Thanks list management team

My neighbour had a chat with the guy who delivers his pizza, apparently he's a 2nd cousin of one of our WAFL top ups and he reckons it's a done deal and will be made public imminently
Mate last time it was the guy who delivered your red rooster, what is going on?

You realise losing the player option part of the deal is good for west coast right?
That only benefited Harley.

Uh no it takes free agency of the ****ing table.

It also takes the stress of working out another contract with harley.

Now we are stuck with rolling short term contracts potential bont style. What an epic disaster

Keen to hear your workings on this.

How?

The odds of him ever actually taking the player option only happen if he underperforms anyway
There are three options if you think
1. He leaves
2. He takes the player options if he underperformed
OR
3. He takes player option because he wants to stay.

Number 3 is a big deal and we are giving that up. Complete clown show. Look forward to this whole negotiate with Harley management in 24 months

I don't think number 3 happens, and would in fact be:
4. He rejects player option and renegotiates a new deal with the eagles for more $$ & with another player option down the line.
Either way if he was keen to stay after 3 years anyway then he would just negotiate a new deal if the player option isn't in place.

He can still do number 3 if he signs short term…..

Number 4 is not a ****ing option. That's not good faith negotiation.

You don't negotiate like that or think that's going to happen.

So by that logic. Harley rejects the contract he wasted months negotiating for? Okay

3 years would be nice.

I think I'd rather Harley keep renewing every 3 years and making sure the club is on the right track, as opposed to blindly signing a 10 year deal with the ability to request a trade when he feels like it. If his future with us is dependent on us improving on the pitch and being competitive again then its win win. Hopefully he can help us attract some star names like Warner to play alongside him.

Nah let's do it every year for fun. 1 year contract going forward with Harley. It's no different.

Yes let's put all our players on bont style contract that will work well.

Goodbye long term planning

Look at Isak and Newcastle. Players hold the cards in sport now. If he signs a longer term deal nothing is going to stop him requesting a trade if he wants it.
