I get that - but why in the space of a week after NAS tore the Demons to shreds, were the Saints were able to put a new offer on the table and push NAS and his manager to make a decision and get it signed almost instantly. Feels like we're not putting it as a high enough priority and the longer a negotiation drags out, the higher of a chance there is that it can all fall apart.

The Saints wine and dined and pulled out all stocks to convince NAS to stay. What have we done?

Given the length of the negotiations, I'm expecting the contract isn't as straightforward as "we're going to pay you X dollars over Y years".

If you are potentially dropping $2mill a year, or receiving it for that matter, you are going to want to make sure every possibility is accounted for.

Cal and Rhino have not said he’s staying like the Chad Warner deal 4 weeks prior to him signing.

Just don’t have my Gold and royal blue sunnies on for everything. IMO if Harley left it would be a huge loss but like so many previous trades, the team that ‘wins’ the trade at trade period doesn’t win it 10 years later. JK, Crisp ect ect

I don't recall much about Warner staying a month out from him re-signing. Seemed to happen quite quickly.

Was well and truely out there a month before with Warner.

Cal is the king of this stuff and doesn’t get many wrong so if he said that it’s great indication just like the Rhino update but they choose their words carefully most of the time.

Can’t lie, I’ve lost some faith in our clubs negotiating capabilities and until I see the contract signed I’m going to worry about us stuffing it up.
I get it’s a big contract for the club but the risk of a standoff is as much as a risk of us paying a few extra $.
The, it's moving in the right direction, narrative sounds like media spin to me.
They’ve had plenty of time to go through all the minute details and it feels like a game of chicken atm.

Any reason having Harley extend his stay at the worst team in history, increasing his time with us to six years, is a bad thing? Might as well freak out that he’ll retire one day too?

Why? Two years puts him at the club for five years. That's a big commitment for a 20 year old.
