Hopefully with Pykey at the club we can get some sort of reverse "Clockwork Orange" shit going on for Harry during the off-season. The kid needs to discover his inner thug. He has all the gifts but needs to sort out the 6 inches between his ears.

I understand why the desire is there to persist but crikey, we can't afford to carry too much dead wood if we want to get on the up and up.

Barnett's still got a year to go on his contract so do you think they're gonna do a Langdon and delist him? I seriously doubt either South Aussie club would be desperate enough to give up anything of value to get him.

While I will always subscribe to the theory that it takes young rucks a few years develop, Barnett has literally gone backwards since his first year here. Which is why I'm holding my breath on all the CDT draft talk.

I appreciate that rucks take time but their development still needs to be tracked, they need to demonstrate they’re progressing. If we had a WAFL reserves team Barnett would be struggling to justify selection in that, such has been the regression in his form since under 18s. If he’s benchmarked against other young rucks playing in the VFL it’s pretty obvious he’s fallen way behind. It’ll be an interesting exit interview for Harry.

If we do retain him I hope we make a concerted effort to put another 10kgs of weight on and send him for some intensive fight training, all in the hope he gets a bit more assertive and confident. It probably won’t work anyway but one thing seems certain: if we keep doing what we’re doing with Harry he’s a certain de-list next year.

You're going to have to pay the contracted money anyway, clearing him a year early would open a list spot that we could fill with an actually competitive ruckman

Mini and Woosh would have had a very honest conversation with him during his exit meeting. Would love to know how that went down. Almost want him to survive the cull now, purely to satisfy my curiosity with him next year.

Hopefully he can start averaging more than 2 disposals a game. Would be an improvement.

Going to counter that he's an obvious delist next year on shown form - and replacing him now with a player who isn't going to be that option means someone else - who isn't so obvious - will have to be moved on next year to make way for the 2026 draft crop. Gotta have some spaces every year.

If we were struggling to find enough player to delist then maybe, but that's not the case. Better to have that space ready to go next year, and you never know, he might yet surprise everyone.

Having to make hard calls on list management means you have a strong list. It also makes anyone who may think they're on the cusp of getting cut work that 5% harder knowing if they don't they might be out of a job.

Retaining someone like Barnett who has absolutely no competitiveness sets a bad precedent & shows we lack the standards required to be a finals contender.

Barnettt not being up to it isn't going to have any effect on us playing finals whatsoever. Every club has players not cut out for AFL.

Businesses have laws protecting employees from getting fired without having to go through a drawn out process which is a resource drain.
