And that’s me done for preseason

Probably the best conditioning I’ve seen the squad in since I’ve been attending training.

There’s a bit to look forward to this season albeit we’ll lose more than we win and there’ll be the occasional shellacking when things come completely unstuck

Stay positive, take the good with the bad as the players learn the new game plan and Mini identifies what he has to work with. Some will thrive, others will fall away but one thing I’m sure of is that the effort and desire to compete and improve will be there

Onwards and upwards, enjoy the season

We just didn't have the cattle to maintain it. And now our list is somewhat young and/or spudly we have to work to our strengths which at the moment is territory and pressure. As we start to build towards better players through the draft and trades etc then we can adjust accordingly.

Best teams should realistically be able to do both.

For all the 'WCE are gonna play like Richmond' comments, it's good that McQualter said in recent interviews that you can't just play one style.

Early days, I think the simplified gameplan will complement the young blokes well but I expect things to evolve in the next few seasons to add more 'levers' to pull.

Precisely

Now can we discuss Harley's contract?

Sure.

wasn't sure where to put this, but interesting thoughts from champion data

All well and good to want to play front half footy but he’s right you still need to set up scoring chains from the back half. Kane Farrell via FA, Josh Lindsay in the draft and we’ll get Kenh next year would all be good options to address this.

Jack Hendersen lining up for the Dees

Shows we were probably looking at the right person but unlucky that Melbourne had a spot open up late and Henderson took the closer to home option

Question is, looking at our named side for R1 does Henderson replace anyone in the 23?

I don’t think he does, so interesting that Melbourne have selected him

Melbourne have 6 debutants. Shows the extent of their injuries, I guess.

Do people really expect Graham to come in and be a decent inside mid ?

He has had 8 seasons and never played well as an inside mid . Best clearance average for a year was 2.6 clearances a game

Sure he runs hard but he sucks at winning clearances , struggles picking up possessions and is treacle slow on the spread.

What exactly does he bring to our side ?

Winning time trials ?

I mean sheed is way better than Graham in every stat except tackling and sheed shouldn't be anywhere near our developing midfield.
FYI

This season Graham has had
  • Career high avg disposals.
  • Career high avg clearances.
  • Career high avg tackles.

Of the team this season he averaged
  • #1 for tackles
  • #1 for stoppage clearances
  • #2 for total clearances
  • #3 for contested possessions

Wow.

Graham came in and did exactly what we hoped

Good pick up.
