That core Melton group have been together a long time now, since the mid 2010s. Probably nearing the end of its cycle as they get towards 30+

Maybe they thought 2025 was their last crack together.

2 flags, 3 grand finals & 3 prelims since 2018, you’d take that. Club probably due for a couple years out of finals for a bit of a refresh/rebuild.

The Bloods have had sustained success playing with no more than 24-26 player points each week. These locals have been playing for well under what they are worth for years now, unfortunately it gets to a point when those offers are too good to knock back each year.

Will lose a few but hopefully gain a few more to go again in 2026.

Must be truckloads of $’s being offered to get blokes to play for South
Cmon buddy you know how it works. Get a couple of good ones and some mates will always follow. Thus far looks to be 3 quality ins such as Angwin, Souter, Mawson. Cooper I don’t know much about. Couple of other soldiers have agreed also so they should be better placed than last season which all clubs want to be..

What’s happening at Melton GB ? First Souter, then Heaney, then Cooper and now Mawson.
By the sounds of it Hogg’s has a few more to come over with them.
I believe they had accepted unders for a while in order to keep the group together so it's understandable that some players may look elsewhere.
Most of their top shelf talent has recommitted, though, so they should be fine.

Spot on, more cash and an easier standard of footy is tough to turn down.

On the other hand there will always be blokes wanting to play at the highest standard possible, so hopefully a few Ins as well.

Surely Melton people can’t be complaining that Melton South have got a couple of players off them. Lachie Watkins and Brody Sullivan were both Melton South captains when they were recruited from South. Ballarat clubs have to deal with Central Highlands clubs recruiting players as well - it happens

Matthew Notman crossed to Bloods back in 2013 after he won Souths best & fairest.

Every club complains about losing players and gloats about recruiting them. Been happening since 1858, the game goes on.

I'm sure it isn't representative of all but the Melton people I've spoken to aren't complaining at all, they accept that it's part of footy.
They've announced Adam Kennedy signing on around VFL coaching commitments so they'll be right.

It happens in every comp where players get to 30s and no longer have the time commitment to play top level with work and family so the offer of some $ with less pressure and training becomes appealing, they leave and the club replaces them with hungry 20-26yos who are all in.

East Point losing a lot of their 18s to other clubs after they won the flag with young Manyiel the latest one to go. Having had a bit to do with East in the past it’s disappointing.

I appreciate some of these lads come in from other clubs to try their hand at a higher level but it just seems that the youth of today aren’t as loyal as we were as young blokes and are quick to jump ship. I would love to see young people acknowledge the time and effort clubs put into them.

It's been happening forever and a day. Young talent leaves major league footy getting money offers they might not other wise see and promise of senior footy each week, regardless of performance. Same on the opposite end of the scale, guys who are no longer up to major league senior footy (or can't commit themselves like they used to) head out to the country, get paid like they are 25 again and prolong their careers for another few years. This isn't new and isn't going away.

Are you saying they come from other clubs to East, but now they aren’t loyal because they are leaving East?

I’d just like to see clubs overall get a little more out of their junior players. A lot of time and effort goes into these kids and it would be great if parents and the players could acknowledge that and give back to the club as senior/reserves players.

Learmonth in the Highlands is another example. Under 18s won the flag and now a bunch of the boys are off to Lexton for I assume some cash and the promise of senior footy.

Quick look on the playhq tells me those 3 "Learmonth" kids only spent the 2025 season there and one is returning to his home club.

But I understand what you are saying, and other clubs have always/will always come for juniors who have played on successful sides, particularly ones from a higher standard of footy.
