Then we're stuck paying half his contract.
We won a flag paying Grundy Treloar and Beams to not play for us.

Once Oliver decides on his destination the negotiation would be “token pick and you pay the $700k, or he plays VFL for you for $1.3m” from his destination club. Melbourne will ask for more initially, but the sentiment will be echoed by him and his management.Agreed I think their price will start steep and it’ll be on the manager to bring them back to earth.
There weren’t any. It was all about the contracts. What were our “sinister” reasons for off loading Grundy and Treloar, with heavy commitments to ongoing contract payments.

What a load of shit.
mine puts that to shame
Two and a half - it was the middle of 2023 when he had the odd "hamstring" injury - it all went south after that. His best is three years ago.
What a load of shit.
Cmon jmac, you will love it when cox taps to oliver, who handballs it to naicos, naicos to rambo... goalI’m tipping this thread will turn pretty sharply when people see what Melbourne are willing to deal on Oliver.
And you have no confidence that Leppa will ensure he’s covered off those other “circumstances”, if we recruit him? There weren’t any. It was all about the contracts.
Like it or not, there are other considerations with Oliver.
as long as its not Melb pre season it'll be a certaintyDo you reckon he will rock up in that shape for preseason training?
Minor detailsDoes anyone know if Oliver wants to play for us?
Not even Oliver knows that.Does anyone know if Oliver wants to play for us?

FOMO about future known possibilities will be a factorFOMO about future unknown possibilities won't be a factor in the decision.
I'm reliably told that Clarry's clearance numbers would be #2 behind Nick this year, can someone confirm.
In our initial agreement with them, We may stipulate that their contributions persist no matter what happens to his contract thereafter? If not they can keep him, play him in the VFL etc…No, if we change financial terms of the contract after the trade then unless Melbourne agree to it they no longer have to contribute. Why would they do us that favour?
Agree. I've never really bought into the Steele hype of years past. Is tough but very limited footballer. Has no weapons. Oliver has a higher ceiling. All in on Oliver.
Steele I'm a big NO.
30 in December and plays like a 35 year old unfortunately he is washed.
Just looked it up - he was 25th in the league for total clearances this year. In his best years he was number 1. He's an awesome ball winner. There's no doubt that as an on-field player he would make us better.
If you're going on FOMO, you're taking Clayton Oliver. There isn't a bigger upside potential than adding him on the cheap.FOMO about future known possibilities will be a factor
Oliver was an AA at an age younger the Ned currently is. Actually find it crazy that people think Ned can ever get to Oliver's level, past or present.Oliver has had years to improve his disposal, discipline and decision making. He has chosen to present unfit and has been away from the club for periods. Long is learning quick, younger and may learn his limitations very well. He has the years to learn, is trainable and is developing quickly. Long trains hard and is professional. Oliver had the higher ceiling.
