What have we done?????

We can't play Flanders at inside mid because he has too many ahead of him in that position and that's where he'd like to play, so we've allowed him to pursue his dream with another Club and received Pick 7 as a result.....

I think we've done OK with that....both for Sam and for our Club...

And by allowing Flanders to move home, it shows the Saints that talent coming from our Academy, allows them to attract quality players that are superfluous to our needs........and hopefully they now shut up about it.

I wouldn’t mind getting giving Billings a run. After the loss of Fiorini, would be a good addition to the wing and would be a free hit
I actually like some of the advanced stats from Eddie Ford.
Being delisted from North Melbourne doesn't fill you with confidence but I think on paper he looks pretty decent - and with some upside. I don't really get why he didn't get a game this year. Going off the VFL games, it seems like maybe he was injured a bit.

His pre draft profile from Rookie Me Central

Strengths: Clean hands, vertical leap, x-factor, goal sense, impact-per-possession, upside
Improvements: Midfield development, endurance, consistency

He played 32 games (4 as sub) across 2023/2024 at age 21/22 mostly as a half forward but didn't play a single AFL game this year.

In 2024 had games of
20 disposals, 6 marks, 3 goals v. Geelong (blowout loss)
17 disposals, 7 marks, 2 goals v. Melbourne (in a close game)
17 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal 2 behinds, 1 goal assist v Bulldogs (in a close game)
15 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal v. Eagles (in a close game)

In 2023 had games of
19 disposals, 8 marks, 3 goals v. Suns (NM win)
10 disposals, 2 marks, 3 goals v. Melbourne (loss)
21 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal v. Sydney (close game)

Key metrics for small / medium forward in 2024 - keeping in mind he was the sub in 4 and subbed out of 1 of 18 games which would have pretty significant impact on results but still:

- F50 ground ball gets: More than Cody Weightman, Charlie Cameron, Bailey Humphrey, Lincoln McCarthy, Switkowski, Miers, Schulz, Frederick, Mcreery, Close, Ainsworth, Chandler

- i50 marks: Same/more than Ah Chee, McCarthy, Callum Brown, Mitch Owens, Lukosius, West, Hayward, Rachele, Raynor, Ryan, Humphrey,

45% 1v1 win percentage and 0.6 contested marks / game are both amongst the highest in his category (Raynor 0.9, Zurhaar 0.8, Owens 0.8, Long 0.5, Elliott 0.5)

Feels like he can do it in the air, or on the ground.

Must lead up a bit to be averaging 4 - 5 marks a game.

Could be a good back up / half forward project, especially if Humphrey leaving at some stage.

I liked Ford, got ruined by Clarko trying to turn him into a half back.

Hes a lead up 3rd/4th. So north roll out Larkey, Darling and the Curtis who’s awesome and Zurhaar

The third forward types need to be elite to make it at the level. Generally not quick enough at ground level. But not tall enough to take pack marks. So the good ones like Long was this year. Have fantastic seasons since they become a mismatch for opposition players

Ryan Burton someone mentioned before is one I like if his body can get right. Great kick if he’s down back. Played all his junior footy ahead of footy. But has essentially been injury prone even as a junior he missed a full year

I guess we played Farrar in that role also.
If there is any capacity to play wing then I think he's worth a look.

Yes pick 7 takes the sting out of it but Flanders is a star and my fav player and the heart and soul of this ****ing team.
C'mon man, that's a stretch. I would plenty before him as heart and soul. Touk, Collins for starters. Pick 7 is a win. We can't keep everyone, and reality is if the young talent develops quickly, he could possibly be fringe in a year. He basically admitted it himself.

Surely if he's wanting to go home he wouldn't put something like that up until a trade was confirmed.... or would he? Bloody hell this is one hell of a roller-coaster we're on.
