Yes he does. The article approved keeping our first round picks for Butters or words to that effect rather than trading them away as in previous years.
Wouldn't it be great if HDM comes good next year and is an answer to our prayers.
Stranger things have happened. :)
I hope that you are right but I have been following the Collingwood VFL side fairly closely for both 2024 & 2025 & I have yet to see any concrete evidence to suggest HDM will successfully transition to be be a competent AFL player. Can somebody tell me what are his strengths and/or weapons playing-wise? I have not been able to identify any stand-out characteristics so far. Good afternoon & good luck.

Not a word out of order in Jake Nial's piece.
Honest assessment of our irresponsible trading away of first rounders in recent years.
Praise of us holding firm and not doing it this year for Simpkin.
Comparing Lions having 8 players under 22 years of age in the Grand Final side to "quality" of our youth stocks.
And confirming what's laughably been denied by all and sundry, Macedonian Marvel cracking the shits and walking out of Copeland and us testing the waters by dangling Jordy as trade bait.

A Premiership and two prelims in the last four years - surely it can’t be that irresponsible?

Simple and superficial was Jake. Appealing stuff for the mouth breathers

And yet we’ve won a flag recently. Could we have done some things better? Of course. But review any team and they have done good and bad trading but many haven’t had success like we have.

How many of brisbanes team youth were gifted to them? And getting another this year btw.

You might earn yourself a special laugh emoji for that.

It is a bit bullshit that Nick has been robbed of several Brownlows while everyone laughs at the voting for Cripps and Rowell.

He got pipped for BnF’s that he probably should’ve won by Josh and now Darcy.

Not to mention he gets talked down at every opportunity by oppo supporters and large sections of the media.

Can’t whinge because that’s footy, but Nick only gets one career. You either get lucky or you don’t and it has an impact on your legacy forever.

Re the bolded, it’s probably been glossed over a bit, but if P Daicos did walk out of the Copeland due to a dummy spit over Nick looking like he wouldn’t win - then it’s poor form and poor sportsmanship, and very disappointing.

Naively, I’m still hoping he left for another reason.

Hey Anzacday , not so long ago I recall a friend of mine getting a bunch of 3 point infractions for using terms like "luminaries of this board" under the premise of abuse of fellow posters.

Did the rules change and now it's all good to refer to your fellow posters as mouth breathers which in anyone's book is a lot more demeaning than the words my friend used or did you miraculously simply not see the post I just quoted?

Asking on behalf of my friend of course and would never question your impartiality.

Napoleon preferred lucky generals over good ones.

Or maybe that was a more general reference to mouth breathers anywhere who appreciated the Niall article?

Why so jumpy?

Sadly, If HDM is the answer to our prayers - I’d say we have to raise our expectations in our prayers.

The only hope, is he learns he has a right foot/side during preseason.

This seems a bit thin-skinned on your part, dialing 000 for something which is actually nothing.

And the implication that AD is being slack is unnecessary. We all know that he goes at it like the IDF, carefully rooting out Hamas while leaving 95% of Gaza in ruins.

Fox Footy has us as a flag contender next year, not just a finals contender. I have us top 4 but I like Fox Footys better

The fixture will play it's part.

StKilda, Dogs and Sydney should be the sharp improvers. Sydney I can see making top 4. They have the midfield to mix with the Brions.

Crows and Suns might find it harder with tougher fixtures. Will be interesting to see if the AFL looks after its baby.

When it comes to us - I want our ladder position to be determined by our kids. If it's on the back of Pendles, Howe and Steele then it's no progress (unless it's a Premiership).

I think injuries will determine how far we go. We will need guys like Parker and Steele to go up another level. Improvement from HH and Reef will also help. We're not without a chance

Well sir I’m sorry your fellow post appears to have referred to you, (and others) as that.
Let me address a couple of errors I have identified in your post.
One, you assume I would be impartial in favour of said poster.
Two, the correct process is to report said post so it is drawn to the attention of all Mods.

C’mon kids, never too early to learn.
Might even set you up for life 😉

Fashions on the field, too.
Maybe stay for a punt while you’re here.
Never too late to get into the nags.

While there was nothing particularly enlightening about the Niall article, I didn't have any major problem with it either.

I thought it was kind of stating the obvious, even if overly simplistic.

Unsurprisingly we elected to go all in for another flag after 2023, and used trade currency, and/or salary cap, on players like Schultz, Houston and Perryman over the last two off seasons.

As we all know we fell 2 wins short this season for that strategy to be deemed a major success.

Perhaps it still can be a success, but I don't see the point of now denying the obvious that we were the oldest team ever this season, and when you take a look at our Copeland result still have a reliance of those aged well over 30 in Elliott, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, and Crisp.

Throw in Howe, and you can see the amount of experience and talent we will need to replace over the next couple of seasons to remain competitive, let alone win another Premiership.

That's a big ask of Fly, his coaching panel, O'Bree and Leppitsch when it comes to talent identification, development and system.

The simple reality is if you load up for the now and in search of another flag, the likely consequence is that you have to sacrifice something in exchange (unless you're kissed on the dick like BL and GC), and for us that will be 2 or 3 seasons without the ability to bring in the more highly rated U18 talent on draft night.

As it stands now I think most of us, like Niall, were content we ended this trade period with our future 1st and 2nd round selections in place, and in all honesty for us to remain in Premiership contention next season, it was always going to be about whether young players already listed, can improve and emerge as AFL level talent in 2026.

While obvious, Brisbane will once again be the team 17 others are chasing in 2026, with Gold Coast and Fremantle being best placed to do so IMO. Right now I have those 3 in my top 4 next season and well placed to contend for the forseeable future.

Fair to say that more has to go right for us next season, than a few others, if we want to win the Premiership.
