Wandin where in deep shit before jugga took over at 22?yo an since then they haven’t looked back. On the back of his connections a now the money they spend.

He’s the only senior premiership coach at park orchards who managed to get themselves up to premier after he left cause Berwick came in.

Powelltown was interesting. Reality is with no juniors or 18s an barely even a suburb they have to recruit. There’s no other options. They will always need a coach to do that to replace what’s leaving with the old coach.

Coldstream went on the short term fix hoping he’d be able to replicate his Powelltown stay an it backfired.

I’d say coldy would be the only disappointed club.
Having been on selection committees over the last 20 years with coaches I think there is nothing wrong with getting in someone who brings people with him, however you need to be well aware that when it come to an end the players who come with the coach their loyalty is with them and not the club, like anything in footy or life you need to be aware of the ramifications and plan ahead for them!!! Park orchards did it better than the others clearly

Wandin/Park orchards have had deep pockets with or without him. I think any decent coach would've thrived at those two clubs.
Powelltown are either all in at the top or struggling for numbers getting flogged, thats true, depends how much cash they've got at the time.

Noticed JB went back to wandins two's after 4 games at corio this year. Wonder if he thought he'd be a walk up start back in the 1's?

Like damian cupido, he will have to go country again where they don't do their due diligence on red flags and get sucked in.

Pearson to East ringwood as fwds coach and player... Big step up to what he's been playing. Can they pay him coaches wage (outside salary cap?) as a playing assistant.

He's past his prime but with classy players delivering him it on a platter he could kick a few handy goals

Oakleigh out of cash or just a mutual parting of ways?

Rules very clear on assistant coaches - every dollar paid is in the cap. Otherwise every club would have 10 “assistant coaches”

Tragic news regarding the death of the young cricketer in the nets. I’m reading he played cricket at FTG, Eildon Park and Mulgrave, footy at Waverley Park and umpired footy in the VAFA. Clearly loved both games and filled his weeks with them. Just shocking stuff, can’t imagine it. 17 years old.

It’s very sad. I’m thinking the days of the bouncer in cricket are definitely numbered. Accidents can and do happen but guys actively bowling at the head won’t be happening for much longer I don’t think.

Heard it was a bowling machine accident. They are bloody dangerous and shouldn't be f**** around with, see some of those videos of people putting the speed up to 140k's, plus not even wearing a helmet on any speed, will be a massive shake up now in light of this

I have heard mixed things and it now seems to be confirmed that it was a ball from a wanger.

It crossed my mind that they had attempted to state publicly it was a bowling machine to spare the person who bowled it.

Expect wangers will be cracked down on.

Makes sense, probably been hundreds of near misses with them from people messing around.

Recruiting or cheating?
Powelltown well over the cap so it’s no string to his bow.
He had a star studded but in team at Wandin and couldn’t get it done.

Just terrible news and extremely sad for everyone involved, its often sad that its takes things like this for community sport to rally together but loving seeing heartfelt comments for other clubs on the page no one wins in a tragedy like this!

He had passed away within a couple of hours, but they held off an announcing it publicly to try and give the family some breathing room.

I heard warrandyte bought into some at the warrandyte pub many years ago, they were a disaster and the club actually lost money, until the pub got new management and turfed them!

Collingwood sold their share in the coach and horses in mitcham too, sad afl clubs need to rely on this, big shock seeing a teams like essendon and carlton in there, how does a afl club not make enough money these days without having to rely on pokies????

IS this how vermont pays for its insiders in the interleague/rep teams?????

Gambling is legal, and the Governments, State and federal, are refusing to act on gambling, as they make a lot of money from it as well. Local councils, under pressure from the community, are being frustrated as they attempt to increase rents/fees on football clubs with significant external revenue streams, such as pokies. I remember Darebin Council endorsing a new gambling action plan which involved cutting or decreasing the amount of support provided to sporting or community groups if they operate or receive help from pokies venues.

So they should, the AFL try and act like they are doing something about it when a sportsbet or pointsbet ad pops up every minute too

I don’t think it really matters if clubs have them
Unless the machines actually get band someone gona be making profits.
The clubs that have sold out of the machines haven’t put the machines in the bin. They’ve just changed hands to who’s making profit. The gambling issue hasn’t left.

This is an extract from the Whitehorse Gambling Harm Minimisation Policy 2024, which states:

1. PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to outline Whitehorse City Council’s approach to minimise harm from gambling, with a focus on reducing the economic, social and health harms associated with electronic gaming machines and other forms of gambling.

Section 7 covers the Council's actual policy.

Section 7.16 states that they will:
Not provide funding to hotels and clubs that own or operate electronic gaming machines.
However, with the amount of money spent on Vermont's ground and rooms, it seems that Whitehorse Council have ignored their own policy.
If Vermont wanted those upgrades, then they should have paid for them.

Why? If people are stupid enough to use pokies then what better outcome is it that the money go to community sport?
