Was just thinking the same thing, are we firming to trade down one of our picks?

Who would be the teams likely to trade with us?

Melbourne with picks 7 & 8? Seems overs
Carlton with 9 & 11? With our pick 4 & 38? To get ahead of the possible Dean bid?
Essendon 6 & 21? Would pick 21 be too late?
Maybe there's a team with a pick in the teens and a F1? Hawks? GWS? Adelaide?

Imagine we look past Robey, draft Taylor and trade down, this board will melt. :tearsofjoy:
We know that Blair will only take a deal that we feel is overs. Out of those options I'd take Dees 7 and 8 for 4, maybe give them 38 if they can give us a pick in the 40s (which they don't have right now) or they throw in a F3. I don't think we entertain fair value as there needs to be a premium for trading down. I.e. points might be equal but output isn't. I.e. Brad Sheppard and John Butcher (7&8) don't equal Dustin Martin (3), Callum Ah Chee (8), Sam Weidemann (9) don't equal Clayton Oliver (4). Probably other examples that did work out but I'm sure generally the player at 4 is better....

Having read through the last few pages, tiger_tough I'm really sorry I sent you that PM saying I want to kill you and I ****ed your Mrs last year after you drafted two Lindsays in your mock.

Back to the draft.

Jevan Phillipou saying that of all clubs we have expressed the most interest in him is really fascinating.

Pick 3 & 4 would be too high.

He isn’t slipping to 38.

So maybe there is something trade wise in the works?

I don’t mind the selection in a teens pick of him.
Is he a reach at pick 8 though? Seems to me to be one of the few players (mids) that have speed, agility, marking power and is dual sided, has positional flexibility too. Reckon he projects as one of the top prospects and maybe missing a chance at the Champs is why he's rated in the teens.

Maybe part of Toce's legacy, he certainly would have been scoped as the 15yo younger brother of Mattaes at the time.

I don’t get the whole “we need to trade down to get the player we want”. We have picks 3 and 4, just pick them with those picks if we rate them

Maybe we see an opportunity to get 3 guys we want.
Even if we split a pick there's no guarantee that we aren't trumped by another team wanting the same player. It's actually a very risky strategy with a big chance of failing.

Because we get an extra pick out of it?

I reckon it's time to employ the Rumsfield Matrix.

Because we get an extra pick out of it?

For me it all ties back to Rhys comments from a little while ago during trade week when he said we have a list of about 15.

Bundle that with the top 3 are maybe the clear cuts, chuck a blanket over the rest, and maybe we just want to get that 3rd player in if the next 12-15 are ranked so similar

Because we get an extra pick out of it?

But if we downgrade too far we might not even get the players we want. Sounds too risky, if we are set on a couple players, just pick them
