If a player with Ryan’s quality is our 23rd picked, I’d be very happy. If he can’t even crack into the side, then I’d be stoked.

Covers excessive ground (including the unrewarded off-ball running patterns), happy to put his body on the line, and can execute great kicks, albeit inconsistently.

Byrnes reminds me of Blake Acres. Looks a much better player in a stronger team.

Hopefully it happens for Byrnes at the Saints.

He's the kind of player top teams would trade out after their Premiership, because "looks better in a stronger team" then strengthen themselves off the trade.
Just another reason its better to stay on top than to crash.

Medium midfielder who had an outstanding year with the Sandringham Dragons in 2019 with his prolific ball winning ability (particularly at stoppages) a real feature of his game. Had very good game sense and creativity with his hands at that time and has developed his leadership skills across that season, captaining his side in the NAB League. He had a taste of representative football playing one game for Vic Metro, winning 14 possessions and has been an ultra-consistent performer at club level averaging 25.6 disposals, 3.5 marks and 3.5 tackles across 15 games. Another prominent member of St Bede’s which won its first ever Herald Sun Shield final in 2019.

Played 80 games for St Kilda.

Future captain?

I don't mind this at all.
I know people hate him, but he's improved year on year and he tries to get the best out of his abilities. That’s more than can be said for other lazy sulking unfit spuds on our list. You can't fault him for making the most of his opportunities.
Admittedly he probably shouldn't be on 80 games, but that's what you get for being fit, relatively reliable and available. I hope he gets to 100.
I would think the next 20 or so games will be much harder to come by.
Great for the VFL team, and solid depth at a budget price tag.

Would play Wilson, Wood, Hill, Windy, Garcia, Clark, Boxshall, Hall, Nas, Flanders, Pou, Hastie, O'Connell, Henry and Travaglia on a wing before Byrnes...and he can only play wing.

Bytel as the ruck-rover & Byrnes as the rover were pretty good in our two's for a time.
Just can't see where Byrnes fits in the Afl
Is OK on a wing, but we have better options.
Always liked his endeavour though, so a decent enough depth player.
